Tri Acetyl Glycerol or triacetin is one of the glycerol derivative products which can be used as additives in liquid fuels (octane boosters) to reduce knocking on the machine. The use of triacetin as octane booster is considered very promising because it comes from renewable and environmentally friendly raw materials. The resulting glycerol-based additives are suitable for gasoline, biodiesel and diesel. In this study glycerol esterification with acetic acid over Lewatit catalyst was investigated. The effects of various parameters, such as reaction temperature, weight of catalyst and molar ratio of glycerol to acetic acid were studied and the optimum condition for the triacetin synthesis are 100°C, 1: 7 mole of ratio and 3% weight of catalys

In this paper, with fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene (AEO9), succinic anhydride (SA) and sodium hydroxide as raw materials, a new type of fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene carboxylate surfactants (SAE9C-Na) was obtained by esterification and neutralizing effect. The influencing factors were researched and its surface properties were studied. The optimum condition of synthesis was determined: molar ratio of alcohol to acid was 1:1.1, reaction temperature was 85°C, reaction time was 60 min, under this condition, the yield could reach up to 95.8%. The results received from this experiment showed that SAE9C-Na had excellent surface activity and foaming and foam stability, whose emulsification and solubility enhancement were improved greatly.

Equilibrium compositions of chemical vapor deposition progress for silicon carbide (CVD-SiC) coatings with MTS/H2 mixture system were calculated by means of HSC Chemistry5.0 code, and influences of the reaction temperature (T), the system pressure (P) and the composition of raw materials (molar ratio of H2 to SiCH3Cl3, β) were investigated. Thermodynamic analysis showed that the value of nC /nSiC in reaction product decreased to a minimum and then increased with the increase of the reaction temperature between 700-1600°C, which meant an optimal reaction temperature existed theoretically for CVD-SiC coatings with highest purity. Furthermore, CVD-SiC coatings with high purity were obtained by experiments under the reaction pressure of 10kPa, H2/SiCH3Cl3 value of 10 and reacton temperature of 1100°C, which was in accordance with the theoretical prediction.

The catalytic synthesis of ethyl acetate from ethanol and acetic acid using Ti2SnC in liquid phase under the atmospheric pressure was studied. The influences of some factors such as catalyst usage, initial reactant molar ratio, reaction temperature and reaction time on acetic acid conversion rate of this reaction system were investigated. The acetic acid conversion rate of 88.12% is achieved while the molar ratio of alcohol and acid is 1:3.6, the amount of catalyst is 0.2000 g, the reaction temperature is 80 °C and the reaction time is 30min. The catalyst Ti2SnC is the ideal catalyst for synthesis of ethyl acetate for good catalytic performance, non-corrosive to equipment, easily separated from product and used repeatedly.

The chemical oxidation of p-cymene was preliminarily studied by several oxidants. The conversion of p-cymene and selectivity of p-cymen-8-ol were both influenced by the factors such as dosage of oxidant, dosage of sulphuric acid, reaction time, reaction temperature and solvent variety. The reasonable oxidation conditions were molar ratio of p-cymene to potassium permanganate 1:3, molar ratio of sulphuric acid to potassium permanganate 0.13:1, mixture of water and acetic acid (1:1, v/v) as solvent, reaction temperature 80 °C and reaction time 9 h. The conversion of p-cymene and selectivity of p-cymen-8-ol were respectively 92.21 % and 69.65 % in the reasonable oxidation conditions. The by-products of p-cymene oxidation mainly included p-iso-propyl benzoic acid, p-isopropyl benzaldehyde and p-methyl acetophenone.

AbstractIn this work, the esterification of glycerol with acetic acid (HOAc) was investigated under sulfonated polyphenylene sulfide non-woven fabric (SPSF) as a solid catalyst. The effects of the amount of catalyst, reaction temperature, molar ratio of glycerol to HOAc and the reaction time on the esterification were studied in detail. It was found that SPSF has good catalytic activity and stability. Under the reaction conditions of the molar ratio of glycerol/HOAc of 1:6 (glycerol 0.1 mol), the reaction temperature of 110 °C, the amount of catalyst of 3 g, and the reaction time of 2 h, the glycerol conversion and the selectivity to diacetin (DAG) reached upto 96 and 56.1%, respectively. Reusability test of SPSF showed that no significant declination in the glycerol conversion and the selectivity was observed after five reaction cycles. The experimental results proved the esterification of glycerol with HOAc by SPSF a promising and green process.

The increased quantities of glycerol available on the market initiated research efforts oriented to new valorization technologies, particularly by its conversion into medium tonnage chemicals, replacing petroleum derivatives. In this work it was investigated the valorization of glycerol by its transformation in glycerol acetates, by direct esterification with acetic acid, over a commercial Amberlyst-35 resin. Experiments were carried out batch-wise, in an autoclave reactor under controlled working conditions, at temperatures between 95 and 112 oC and initial acetic acid to glycerol molar ratios between 4 and 9. The experimental data evidenced that the glycerol conversion to monoacetate is faster than the next esterification steps. A relatively simple kinetic model was proposed and its parameters were evaluated from the experimental measurements. It proved reasonable predicting capacity for products distribution dependencies on the reactants molar ratio and reaction temperature.

A novel technology of preparing cryolite free of wastewater containing ammonia was studied by using industrial grade sodium fluorosilicate from phosphate fertilizer production. Effects of reaction temperature and pH were studied for the decomposition of sodium fluorosilicate, and the suitable reaction conditions were decomposition temperature above 54 °C and pH 8.4. Effects of Na/Al (molar ratio of Na to Al in the raw materials), reaction temperature and pH on the quality of cryolite were investigated for the synthesis of cryolite. The results indicate that the obtained cryolite can meet the national first-grade quality standard of China at the conditions of pH from 3.0 to 5.0, Na/Al from 2.8 to 3.0 and temperature above 70 °C.
