The use of private vehicles by the academic community of Sebelas Maret University (UNS) is increasing every year. This has resulted in a reduced availability of vehicle parking spaces, thus impacting the emergence of illegal parking and violation of parking rules. In relation to the vision of the UNS rector mission to a green campus policy, it is therefore necessary to make vehicle parking arrangement on the campus area. The aim of study is to conduct parking management and develop a law enforcement parking vehicles system based on internet and android technology. An Android-based parking violation reporting application, called BuSet Parking App is developed. The analysis of vehicle parking characteristics results shows that the parking index value at motorcycles and cars parking areas are above 1.0 at a certain time, thus causing parking violations. The BuSet Parking App records the location and time of the parking violations incident along with the visual evidence of the infringement. This information is connected to the database system to detect offenders and to do the parking law enforcement process. With this technology, sustainable transport efforts by controlling the number of parking vehicles in the campus environment can then be done effectively and efficiently.

AbstractBackgroundMuch of suicide research focuses on suicide attempt (SA) survivors. Given that more than half of the suicide decedent population dies on their first attempt, this means a significant proportion of the population that dies by suicide is overlooked in research. Little is known about persons who die by suicide on their first attempt–and characterizing this understudied population may improve efforts to identify more individuals at risk for suicide.MethodsData were derived from the National Violent Death Reporting System, from 2005 to 2013. Suicide cases were included if they were 18–89 years old, with a known circumstance leading to their death based on law enforcement and/or medical examiner reports. Decedents with and without a history of SA were compared on demographic, clinical, and suicide characteristics, and circumstances that contributed to their suicide.ResultsA total of 73 490 cases met criteria, and 57 920 (79%) died on their first SA. First attempt decedents were more likely to be male, married, African-American, and over 64. Demographic-adjusted models showed that first attempt decedents were more likely to use highly lethal methods, less likely to have a known mental health problem or to have disclosed their intent to others, and more likely to die in the context of physical health or criminal/legal problem.ConclusionsFirst attempt suicide decedents are demographically different from decedents with a history of SA, are more likely to use lethal methods and are more likely to die in the context of specific stressful life circumstances.

The aim of this study was to assess the association between state firearm legislation and law enforcement–related deaths (LEDs) and its modification by race. We used secondary data from an ecological cohort of 16 states (2010 to 2016), using the National Violent Death Reporting System (NVDRS), the State Firearm Law Database and additional public sources. Poisson regression with generalised estimating equations and inverse probability of exposure weights to account for time-varying confounding were used to quantify the association. LEDs were also disaggregated by race (Black vs non-Black). A total of 1593 LEDs took place during the 6-year study period. After adjusting for confounders, the IRR among non-Blacks was 0.48 (95% CI 0.26 to 0.89) and 1.53 (95% CI 0.93 to 2.54) among Blacks. Our findings highlight the fact that increased firearm provisions may decrease rates of LED among non-Black American individuals—an association not observed among Black Americans.

Under the background of the era with the theme of green development, higher requirements have been put forward for the planning of new campus in colleges and universities. Campus planning under the concept of green emphasizes the ecological green campus model, creates a beautiful and elegant campus environment with outstanding green ecological characteristics, and realizes the green development and sustainable development of new campus in colleges and universities. The campus planning should fully consider the natural landscape, coordinate with the surrounding environment, combine the regional and cultural characteristics, integrate the unique human environment characteristics of traditional campus, and form a unique human campus atmosphere. Based on the terrain and the water body, the planning is supposed to inherit the elements of good campus space and create a unique campus space personality.

This study examined the effect of an offender’s sex (male/female) on whether sexual-offense incidents reported to law enforcement culminated in an arrest. Two hypotheses, chivalry and evil woman, are relied upon and suggest that the probability of arrest differs for women and men, yet in differing directions. The chivalry hypothesis suggests women are treated more leniently than men and, therefore, less likely to be arrested. The evil woman hypothesis, however, suggests the opposite: Women are treated more harshly than men and, therefore, more likely to be arrested. Seven years of National Incident-based Reporting System [NIBRS] data were relied upon ( National Archive of Criminal Justice Data, 2010–2016 , National Incident-based Reporting System: Extract Files); all of the reported sexual-offense incidents committed by women were included, along with a matched sample of reported sexual-offense incidents committed by men, culminating in a sample of 22,744. Overall, women were 42% significantly less likely than men to be arrested when controlling for other known offense, offender, and victim characteristics. The odds for women to be arrested increased, however, when specific offender demographics, offense characteristics, and victim characteristics were taken into account. The implications of these findings are discussed in regard to their application of the chivalry and evil woman hypotheses.
