The authors consider the process of teaching learners reading digital texts as pedagogical support for their search activity. Taking into account psychophysiological regularities and psychological mechanisms a teacher gets an opportunity to simulate the environment and conditions for learners to form implications, formulate questions and implement research and search for new questions based on the obtained results with the help of hypertextuality, multimedia and interactivity of digital texts in a real educational process. The purpose of the study is to identify a strategy for reading digital text. The simulation experiment for senior learners includes two opposite ways of teaching reading digital text. He/she had to start first with the short text reading, then with the corresponding picture and vice versa. The personal significance of the read text or picture, understanding of the text content and the accuracy of its reproduction were taken into account. Experimental evidence suggests the importance of using strategies for teaching reading a digital text as strategies allow the learner to act as a subject of attitude to the subject of knowledge. Teacher’s digital text-based sequencing of learning situations, based on the principle of integrity, provides a sequence of future-oriented behavioral acts in the context of neuroscience achievements.

This study was conducted to explore students' perceptions of reading digital texts. To attain the objective, the data were collected through an online questionnaire uploaded in Google Form and an interview. The questionnaire was intended to collect quantitative data concerning the participants responses about their interest and motivation, digital text reading efficacy, problems in digital text reading, and preference towards digital or printed text reading. The participants of the study were 65 English pre-service teachers selected from the whole students of the English Education Department of Universitas Kristen Indonesia in the academic year 2019/2020, and the sample was 65 participants. The collected data were analyzed descriptively using Microsoft excel. The findings revealed that the participants perceived digital texts reading positively. They preferred reading digital texts because they were motivating, interesting, and suite their expected way of reading. The main problem they encountered in reading digital texts was due to the screen light which could irritate their eyes.

Digital texts can be made accessible to children with developmental dyslexia by presenting them in a simplified layout, using suitable fonts, or using text highlighting that is synchronized with audio. However, the impact of this last method on readability (as measured by eye movement) for children with developmental dyslexia remains unknown; it is unclear whether the color and length of text highlighting influences readability. We examined these issues in two experiments with seven children with developmental dyslexia (aged 7–14 years). In the first experiment, we clarified the relation between readability and text highlighting with synchronous audio by measuring the eye movements of children with developmental dyslexia. Readability was determined using the frequency of eye fixations. In the second experiment, we determined which styles of text highlighting best supported digital text reading among children with developmental dyslexia. Digital texts were created using different text highlighting colors and band lengths, and then were read using Apple iBooks on a 9.7-inch Apple iPad Air. We observed that children with developmental dyslexia found it easier to read along when audio was synchronized with text highlighting, particularly for the highlighting style that used a blue band for whole sentences. The second experiment showed that children with developmental dyslexia found it particularly easy to read digital texts that were highlighted with blue or yellow bands, both for single sentences and for single words. The method of presenting visual information for reading might help children with developmental dyslexia read more easily.

A method for solving the problem of classifying short-text messages in the form of sentences of customers uttered in talking via the telephone line of organizations is considered. To solve this problem, a classifier was developed, which is based on using a combination of two methods: a description of the subject area in the form of a hierarchy of entities and plausible reasoning based on the case-based reasoning approach, which is actively used in artificial intelligence systems. In solving various problems of artificial intelligence-based analysis of data, these methods have shown a high degree of efficiency, scalability, and independence from data structure. As part of using the case-based reasoning approach in the classifier, it is proposed to modify the TF-IDF (Term Frequency - Inverse Document Frequency) measure of assessing the text content taking into account known information about the distribution of documents by topics. The proposed modification makes it possible to improve the classification quality in comparison with classical measures, since it takes into account the information about the distribution of words not only in a separate document or topic, but in the entire database of cases. Experimental results are presented that confirm the effectiveness of the proposed metric and the developed classifier as applied to classification of customer sentences and providing them with the necessary information depending on the classification result. The developed text classification service prototype is used as part of the voice interaction module with the user in the objective of robotizing the telephone call routing system and making a shift from interaction between the user and system by means of buttons to their interaction through voice.

The modernization of higher education is mandatory condition for the current stage of Russian society development and the ensuring of the Russian economy competitiveness. One of the priority issues of modernization is the strengthening of the significance of self-students studying. This is due primarily to the considerable reduction in the number of classroom sessions and the increase in hours provided for self-students studying. Self-studying becomes the basis for the professional development of a bachelor, encourage his cognitive interests, promotes the essential objectives of the training, that is, the formation of communicative and professional competences. The nature of the relationship between the teacher and the bachelor alters within the framework of competence-oriented education. The teacher, released from the mere transfer of knowledge, gets freedom in choosing forms of interaction or rather in choosing the methods used in such field of studying as “Foreign Language”. Classical teaching methods are replaced with new ones. The emergence of information and communication technologies led to their rapid introduction into the educational process. The organization of self-students studying through the use of information and communication technologies is of great interest to many educational specialists. The specific nature of information and communication technologies lies in the creation in the educational process of various kinds of relations and conditions of real life, requiring from bachelors not only the knowledge of work-related material, but also their familiarization with a given image, a holistic immersion in the professional environment. The use of simulation technology facilitates the formation of cognitive-search activity of bachelors, causes incentive for learning a foreign language.

The article actualizes the issue of updating the content, methods and means of teaching mathematics at the university within the sociocultural paradigm. A significant contradiction characterizing the crisis situation in the field of higher mathematical education is the mismatch between the traditional organization of the educational process and the powerful developing potential of mathematical disciplines. Being overloaded with a lot of information, altogether with its insufficiently developed anthropological, cultural-like and communicative components, mathematical education hinders the mental development of the learner’s personality in relation to such important qualities as search activity, creativity, and creative thinking. The solution to this problem can be the transformation of the cognitive-information model of learning, the introduction of pedagogical technologies that actualize the sociocultural aspect of mathematical education. The aim of the study is to develop methodological foundations for the implementation of the value-semantic orientation of teaching mathematics at the university, expressed in providing a set of pedagogical conditions related to the selection of content, determination of teaching aids and methods, ways of organizing the interaction of students and a teacher, in which students intelligently master mathematical concepts, and freely operate with them. The didactic conditions for the implementation of the value-semantic orientation of teaching mathematics at the university are: the transformation of mathematical content, expressed in learning from sociocultural experience; the psychodidactic approach, focused on building the students’ self-motivation; the use of teaching methods that provide cognitive and emotional empathy (educational mathematical discourse), the activization of productive mental activity (technology of problematic dialogue); inclusion of non-standard, creative tasks, training cases. Providing these conditions will allow to realize the humanitarian potential of mathematics, to reveal the social, practical and personal significance of the subject matter.

Assessment is an important activity in any educational process to evaluate the learner’s knowledge about the concepts learnt.. Evaluation through objective testing is common in all evaluation system, where Multiple Choice Questions, Fill in the Blanks, Matching etc. are used for evaluation. The method of objective testing is not sufficient to completely verify all the concepts learnt by the learner. Thus computer assisted assessment of short text answers is developed. Here we present a technique which also considers grammatical errors during automated evaluation of oneline sentence. In this paper we have define a set of evaluation criteria that covers all the relevant aspects of an essay assessment system and discussion on how this technique find syntactical errors during evaluation of student response.

Hashtags have always been important elements in many social network platforms and micro-blog services. Semantic understanding of hashtags is a critical and fundamental task for many applications on social networks, such as event analysis, theme discovery, information retrieval, etc. However, this task is challenging due to the sparsity, polysemy, and synonymy of hashtags. In this paper, we investigate the problem of hashtag embedding by combining the short text content with the various heterogeneous relations in social networks. Specifically, we first establish a network with hashtags as its nodes. Hierarchically, each of the hashtag nodes is associated with a set of tweets and each tweet contains a set of words. Then we devise an embedding model, called Hashtag2Vec, which exploits multiple relations of hashtag-hashtag, hashtag-tweet, tweet-word, and word-word relations based on the hierarchical heterogeneous network. In addition to embedding the hashtags, our proposed framework is capable of embedding the short social texts as well. Extensive experiments are conducted on two real-world datasets, and the results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
