Taxus species in different parts of the world prevent the formation of hepatoprotective, anticoagulant, antiulcerogenic, anti-coagulant, antifungal and tumour cells. In this study, biological activity studies were performed on the leaves, branches and fruits of the methanol extract of Taxus baccata L. species collected from Sivaslı district of Uşak province. The methanol extract of the T.baccata species, the total amount of phenolic content of the sample was found to be 14.76 mg GAEQ/1g dry sample in the highest leaves. In T.baccata methanol extract, the maximum amount of flavonoid content was 0.468±mg QE/g dry sample. Antioxidant activity value as DPPH radical; % inhibition value was found as 93.21%. Based on the results; It can be concluded that the leaves of T.baccata have higher antioxidant activity than fruits and branches. Future studies need to explore the chemical components contained in the T.baccata species to determine and investigate in further detail.

This work aims to determine antioxidant, total phenolic content and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis of breadfruit leaves which are essential in management of diabetes. The methanolic extracts of breadfruit leaves was used to analyze for total phenolic content and antioxidant. Total phenolic content of the extracts was measured using the Folin–Ciocalteu assay while the antioxidant activity of plant extracts was measured by the 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picryhyradrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging assay. FTIR analysis was used to determine the chemical components in the leaves. Total phenolic content in fresh breadfruit leaves (144.16 mg/g ± 17.98) was comparable to those of green tea. The results showed the breadfruit leaves extracts exhibited potent antioxidant activity. The presence of OH group also suggests antioxidant capacity of breadfruit leaves to deactivate free radicals as glucose itself could react with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of iron and copper ions to form hydroxyl radical.

Alpinia zerumbet (Pers.) B.L. Burtt. & R.M. Sm is an important perennial ginger plant in the tropics with various uses as foods, dietary supplement, cosmetics, essential oil production and traditional medicines. In this study, essential oils, phenolic acids, fatty acids, kavains, total phenols and antioxidant activity in A. zerumbet plants exposed to UV-C were investigated. Number and weights of essential oils increased rapidly from 1 to 3 days of exposure. Major extend of essential oils was recorded in methyl cinnamate and followed by benzyl acetone. The correspondence to the accumulation of palmitic acid was 15 folds, in contrast to the strong reduction of stearic quantity was 10 folds at 3 days of treatment. Changes in chemical components and antioxidant capacity in A. zerumbet are differed reversely between the exposure of UV-C and heavy toxic chemicals. The exposure of UV-C is beneficial for the increasing of essential oil production in A. zerumbet.

Moringa pterygosperma is one of the plants in Indonesia that is often used in herbal medicine. Moringa leaves contain many phytochemical compounds, one of the compounds is flavonoids which function as antioxidants. Flavonoid compounds in vitro can inhibit lipid peroxidation by breaking the chain of peroxyl radicals. Moringa leaf benefits in the field of herbal medicine are formed with a variety of preparations. One of the preparations is in the form of extracts with the aim of attracting chemical components to natural materials The extraction process has a disadvantage because the level of solubility in water is still low. The nanoparticle technique is a strategy to increase the bioavalbicibility of herbal active compounds. This research was experimental in order to determine the total flavonoid levels contained in Moringa leaf extract. In addition, it was also to find out the antioxidant activity and particle size of the moringa leaf extract nanoparticles. Determination of flavonoid levels using spectrophotometric methods. The antioxidant activity of moringa leaf extract nanoparticles was tested using the DPPH method (2,2-diphenyl-picrylhdrazyl) and to determine the particle size used by using the Particle Size Analyzer (PSA). The results of the study showed total flavonoid levels in moringa leaf extract (1.97 ± 1.07)%. Antioxidant activity of 451.8 ppm with a reduction of 2.8% and particle size in the moringa leaf extract nanoparticles of ± 134.78 nm. Moringa leaf extract nanoparticles include low antioxidants. Propolis, a precious bee product has been widely used for pharmaceutical purposes for centuries. Chemical components, properties, and activities are differed based on geographic origins, respective plant sources, and bee species. In our research, Mongolian propolis from 2 different places was examined for chemical content and antioxidant effect. The samples were collected from Northern and Central parts of Mongolia and were examined for a total of 8 contents. Crude Mongolian propolis sample from central part of Mongolia displayed higher results in every aspect with total moisture of 2.1%; ash 1.7%; fat 67.8, 69.3%; and 1.05% of protein. The free amino acid in 70% EtOH was higher in sample from northern part with 1.21µg/mg and the total amino acid was quantified by HPLC and highest concentration detected in methionine 1.90mg/g, and 2.62 mg/g. Totally 3 alkaloids and 2 phenolic were detected by TLC and high antioxidant activity was presented in DPPH radical scavenging test. The results suggest that the best solvent for propolis samples is EtOH 70% solution. The test propolis samples contain different types of alkaloids and phenolic, have high amount of methionine and has high antioxidant effect.

Aims: The present study was conducted to determine the antioxidant activity and chemical components of Ficus abutilifolia. Miq. (Moraceae). Place and Duration of the Study: The study were performed at Department of chemistry, University of Ngaoundere, Cameroon, between July 2017 and September 2018. Methodology: Phytochemical study was carried out on all extracts of stem barks. Besides, the total phenols contents (TPC) using the Folin-Ciocalteu and the antioxidant activities using DPPH and FRAP methods were also evaluated. The isolation of compounds from the EtOAc extract was done using column and thin layer chromatographic techniques on silica gel. The structures of isolated constituents were elucidated using mass spectrometry, 1D and 2D-NMR techniques. Results: Phytochemical screening revealed that all the compounds tested were found to be present in the acetone extract; the hexane extract was the poorest in compounds. Acetone extract, DCM/MeOH (1:1) and MeOH extracts were found to be rich in phenols with TPC respectively (239. 849 ± 0.969), (232.676 ± 0.404) and (109.654 ± 0.724) mg EAG/100g EX. Except the n-hexane extract, all the others exhibit antioxidant activities, acetone extract being the most effective with an inhibitory concentration 50 (IC50) of (0.038 ± 0.002) mg/mL for the DPPH antiradical scavenging activity and (0,021 ± 0,002) mg/mL for FRAP. A new fatty acid named Pentacosyl henicosanoate (2) along with six known compounds Octatriacontane (1), β–sitosterol (3), a mixture of Lupeol acetate (4a), α-amyrin acetate (4b), β-amyrin acetate (4c) and Daucosterol (5) were isolated from the column chromatography of the ethyl acetate extract. Daucosterol (5) exhibited antiradical activity with an IC50 of (13.005 ± 0.005) mg/mL. Only Daucosterol (5) has exhibited antiradical activity with an IC50 of (13.005 ± 0.005) mg/mL among the isolated compounds. Conclusion: This study provides scientific evidence and support for the traditional uses of F. abutilifolia stem barks in the treatment of diseases associated with oxidative stress.

Traditionally, Calophyllum genus was used for swollen gums, arthritis, diarrhea, chronic abscess, skin infections, and lesions treatment. C. ferrugineum from Sarawak has least studied about their phytochemical constituents and biological activities. The objectives are to isolate and characterize the chemical components from C. ferrugineum and to determine their antimicrobial and antioxidant activity. The plant stem barks were collected from National Park in Sarawak and underwent extraction process. The extracts underwent isolation and purification processes by using several chromatographic methods. Structural elucidation was achieved by using infrared, MS and NMR spectra. The isolation process from the species has afforded 5 known compounds;  isocalanone (1) and 1-hydroxy-7-methoxy-9H-xanthen-9-one (2), lupeol (3), friedelin (4) and diethylene glycol dibenzoate (5). The chloroform and methanol extract showed strong inhibitions against S. aureus, B. subtilis, P. aeruginosa and E. coli with the MIC and MBC values ranging from 225 and 112.5 µg/mL. Isocalanone (1) and the methanol extract of C. ferrugineum showed potent antioxidant activity with the IC50 values of 28 ± 5.23 and 35 ± 3.69 µg/mL compared to ascorbic acid, respectively. The results obtained from this study emphasized the potential of the species as antimicrobial and antioxidant agents.
