Indonesia is one of the countries that has implemented a bilingual education program through English lessons since entry level. Therefore, this study aims to describe the effect of bilingual education on children’s language used. The object of research is a novel entitled 25 Beautiful Friendship by Annisa Zhahrotushama Balqis. Data description is managed by showing facts related to the influence of bilingualism (foreign language) on the language used by the author in her novel, such as giving names of titles, characters, places, food items, events and others. Based on the findings and results of the analysis above, it can be concluded that the massive teaching of foreign languages such as English into basic-level education has a significant impact on the way children convey their feelings and experiences in verbal communication.

AbstractThe paper explores the portrayal of social relations among youth in the popular Norwegian TV-series Skam and places this analysis in relation to Anne Imhof’s award-winning performance piece Faust, which received the Golden Lion at the 2017 Venice Biennale for the German Pavilion. As expressions of how today’s youth experience social relations under the conditions of late capitalism, I examine the way in which the TV-series and the performance work respectively explore when and how ‘we’ is shaped. I argue that they provide particular insight into the limits and possibilities for the formation of relations of solidarity today.

Prof. David Baltimore of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology is under attack by Representative John Dingell of Michigan. Why should anyone outside of the Government or basic biomedical research care? Dr. Baltimore's reputation is at stake, but the rest of us will be affected by the outcome of these investigations as well. What has come under a legislative cloud for the first time in a very long time, perhaps ever in this country, is the legitimacy of the scientific method itself. This is an immediate and serious threat to science and medicine. The N.I.H. will have the last word on Dr. Baltimore's published research. But as I understand the Congressman's case, it is that published science must be free of error, and that error itself indicates bad faith and fraudulent intent. This is wrong. Published error is at the heart of any real science. We scientists love to do experiments that show our colleagues to be wrong and, if they are any good, they love to show us to be wrong in turn. By this adversarial process, science reveals the way nature actually works. If we as a country make science a field for only those who enjoy a good lawsuit, we will have shut the door on our future as a technologically serious nation. Clearly Congress cannot wish to do this. I would welcome a Congressional initiative to deal with fraud as such, but I fear that the way Dr. Baltimore is being treated means that witch-hunts are in the offing.

Paolo Bacigalupi’s Nebula award-winning novel The Windup Girl (2009) sets up a dialectical situation which it then disrupts. This is important for two reasons. First, dialectic formations are often also assemblages or networks, meaning that their constituent parts are defined by how they interact with each other rather than by the essence which is withdrawn from such interactions. In the previous chapter, symbiosis was seen as a powerful tool for change. However, the way it was described often bordered on a dialectical structure, as did the doubling of double-vision and the contradiction of crisis energy. The Windup Girl offers a different strategy, the short circuit. In brief, this means that one of the terms of a symbiosis disrupts the symbiosis. This disruption takes the form of spatial and temporal tensions, as described above and developed below.

This chapter studies the genre and narrative of Pedro Almodóvar's Talk to Her (2002). The narrative of Talk to Her flits between a double- and single-stranded plot line, plays with time with sometimes careless abandon, and contains coincidences that verge of the ridiculous. But yet, far from alienating the spectator, the narrative of Talk to Her pleasingly draws one in and lures the spectator into a position where they are able to suspend their disbelief, enjoy and engage with the plot. The spectator familiar with Almodóvar's films somewhat expects an unconventional narrative and thus is likely to find it unobtrusive. Meanwhile, like most Almodóvar's films, Talk to Her is hard to classify in terms of genre. Unlike the Hollywood system that relies heavily on either star or genre marketing, the marketing for Almodóvar's films relies heavily on his own status as an award-winning auteur film-maker. Talk to Her is thus not bound by generic convention in the way that many Hollywood films are.

AbstractThe ability to estimate quantity, which is crucially important in several aspects of animal behaviour (e.g., foraging), has been extensively investigated in most taxa, with the exception of reptiles. The few studies available, in lizards, report lack of spontaneous discrimination of quantity, which may suggest that reptiles could represent an exception in numerical abilities among vertebrates. We investigated the spontaneous ability of Hermann’s tortoises (Testudo hermanni) to select the larger quantity of food items. Tortoises showed able to choose the larger food item when exposed with two options differing in size (0.25, 0.50, 0.67 and 0.75 ratio) and when presented with two groups differing in numerousness (1 versus 4, 2 versus 4, 2 versus 3 and 3 versus 4 items). The tortoises succeeded in both size and numerousness discrimination, and their performance appeared to depend on the ratio of items to be discriminated (thus following Weber’s Law). These findings in chelonians provide evidence of an ancient system for the extrapolation of numerical magnitudes from given sets of elements, shared among vertebrates.

<div class="Section1"><p>Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penerapan observasi sistematik pada pembelajaran  Akidah Akhlaq kelas  VII MTs Kedungombo Buaran Mayong Jepara. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif  deskriptif.  Data  yang telah  terkumpul melalui observasi lapangan dan wawancara dengan sumber data, baik primer maupun sekunder dianalisis dengan tahapan model Miles Huberman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa observasi sistematik yang diterapkan di MTs Kedungombo Buaran Mayong Jepara, yakni dengan cara guru mengamati perilaku peserta didik yang telah dipersiapkan kriterianya baik di dalam kelas maupun di luar kelas mulai dari kedisiplinan, tanggungjawab, tenggang rasa, perhatian dan kerajinan sehingga mendapat hasil pembelajaran yang baik. Dengan dilaksanakannya observasi sistematik, guru menjadi lebih aktif dan mengenal karakter serta sikap peserta didik. This research aims to know the application of systematic observation on Aqidah  Akhlaq  Lesson in Class VII of MTs Kedungombo Buaran Mayong , Jepara. This research uses qualitative descriptive approach. The data that has been collected through field observation and interview with both of the primary and secondary sources were analyzed  with the model of Miles Huberman. The  results  showed  that systematic observation  applied  in MTs Kedungombo  Buaran Mayong Jepara, it was with the way the teacher observes the behavior of learners who have prepared the criteria both in class and outside class ranging from discipline, responsibility, tolerance, thoughtfulness and diligence so that it gets a good learning results. By applying the systematic observations, teacher became more active and get to know the characters and attitudes of learners.
