Considering the current situation of COVID-19 and travel restrictions, the 3rd International Conference on Industrial Applications of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (BDAI 2021) which was planned to be held in Wuhan. China from Sept. 23 to 25, 2021 was changed into virtual conference on Sept. 24, 2021 via Tencent Meeting (Voov) software. BDAI 2021 was organized by China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), sponsored by Hong Kong Society of Mechanical Engineers (HKSME). The Technical Program committee received a total of 38 paper submissions from all over the world, among which 20 papers were accepted, and more than 30 participants attended the conference online, they were from China, Australia, Thailand, Malaysia, India, Japan, UK and more. Four renowned speakers given speeches about their latest research and reports. They are: Prof. Dan Zhang from York University, Canada; Prof. Lefei Zhang from Wuhan University. China: Prof. Deze Zeng from China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), China and Assoc. Prof. Simon James Fong from University of Macau. Macau S.A.R., China. The conference also had 1 technical session and 1 poster sessions. This conference aims to provide a platform for researchers and engineers to share their ideas, recent developments, and successful practices in energy engineering. The participants of the conference were from almost every part of the world, with various background such as academia, industry, and well-known entrepreneurs. Each keynote speech lasted 40 minutes, and authors presentation 15 minutes. Each presentation was included with questions and answers. BDAI 2021 became an effective communication platform for all the participants over the world and unlike some that claim international reach this conference was truly international. The conference proceeding is a compilation of the accepted papers and represent an interesting outcome of the conference. This book covers 3 chapters: 1. Artificial Intelligence: 2. Big Data Technology; 3. Robot System. We would like to acknowledge all of those who supported BDAI 2021. Each individual and institutional help were very important for the success of this conference. Especially we would like to thank the committee chairs, committee members and reviewers, for their tremendous contribution in conference organization and peer review of the papers. We sincerely hope that BDAI 2021 will be a fomrn for excellent discussions that will put forward new ideas and promote collaborative research and support researchers as they take their work forward. We are sure that the proceedings will serve as an important research source of references and the knowledge, which will lead to not only scientific and engineering progress but also other new products and processes. We are glad to introduce you that the 2021 3rd International Conference on Artificial Intelligence Technologies and Applications (ICAITA 2021) was successfully held on September 10-12, 2021. In light of worldwide travel restriction and the impact of COVID-19, ICAITA 2021 was carried out in the form of virtual conference to avoid personnel gatherings. Because most participants were still highly enthusiastic about participating in this conference, we chose to carry out ICAITA 2021 via online platform according to the original schedule instead of postponing it. ICAITA 2021 is to bring together innovative academics and industrial experts in the field of Artificial Intelligence Technologies and Applications to a common forum. The primary goal of the conference is to promote research and developmental activities in Artificial Intelligence Technologies and Applications and another goal is to promote scientific information interchange between researchers, developers, engineers, students, and practitioners working all around the world. The conference will be held every year to make it an ideal platform for people to share views and experiences in Artificial Intelligence Technologies and Applications and related areas. This scientific event brings together more than 100 national and international researchers in artificial intelligence technologies and applications. During the conference, the conference model was divided into three sessions, including oral presentations, keynote speeches, and online Q&A discussion. In the first part, some scholars, whose submissions were selected as the excellent papers, were given about 5-10 minutes to perform their oral presentations one by one. Then in the second part, keynote speakers were each allocated 30-45 minutes to hold their speeches. We were pleased to invite three distinguished experts to present their insightful speeches. Our first keynote speaker, Prof. Yau Kok Lim, from Sunway University, Malaysia. His research interests include Applied artificial intelligence, 5G networks, Cognitiveradio networks, Routing and clustering, Trust and reputation, Intelligent transportation system. And then we had Prof. Peter Sincak, from Technical University of Kosice, Slovakia. His research includes Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Systems. Lastly, we were glad to invite Chinthaka Premachandra, from Shibaura Institute of Technology, Sri Lanka. His research interests include Artificial Intelligence, image processing and robotics. In the last part of the conference, all participants were invited to join in a WeChat group to discuss and explore the academic issues after the presentations. The online discussion was lasted for about 30-60 minutes. The first two parts were conducted via online collaboration tool, Zoom, while the online discussion was carried out through instant communication tool, WeChat. The online platform enabled all participants to join this grand academic event from their own home. We are glad to share with you that we still received lots of submissions from the conference during this special period. Hence, we selected a bunch of high-quality papers and compiled them into the proceedings after rigorously reviewed them. These papers feature following topics but are not limited to: Artificial Intelligence Applications & Technologies, Computing and the Mind, Foundations of Artificial Intelligence and other related topics. All the papers have been through rigorous review and process to meet the requirements of international publication standard. Lastly, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Chairman, the distinguished keynote speakers, as well as all the participants. We also want to thank the publisher for publishing the proceedings. May the readers could enjoy the gain some valuable knowledge from the proceedings. We are expecting more and more experts and scholars from all over the world to join this international event next year. BACKGROUND: To combat COVID-19, curb the pandemic, and manage containment, governments around the world are turning to data collection and population monitoring for analysis and prediction. The massive data generated through the use of big data and artificial intelligence can play an important role in addressing this unprecedented global health and economic crisis. OBJECTIVES: The objective of this work is to develop an expert system that combines several solutions to combat COVID-19. The main solution is based on a new developed software called General Guide (GG) application. This expert system allows us to explore, monitor, forecast, and optimize the data collected in order to take an efficient decision to ensure the safety of citizens, forecast, and slow down the spread’s rate of COVID-19. It will also facilitate countries’ interventions and optimize resources. Moreover, other solutions can be integrated into this expert system, such as the automatic vehicle and passenger sanitizing system equipped with a thermal and smart High Definition (HD) cameras and multi-purpose drones which offer many services. All of these solutions will facilitate lifting COVID-19 restrictions and minimize the impact of this pandemic. METHODS: The methods used in this expert system will assist in designing and analyzing the model based on big data and artificial intelligence (machine learning). This can enhance countries’ abilities and tools in monitoring, combating, and predicting the spread of COVID-19. RESULTS: The results obtained by this prediction process and the use of the above mentioned solutions will help monitor, predict, generate indicators, and make operational decisions to stop the spread of COVID-19. CONCLUSIONS: This developed expert system can assist in stopping the spread of COVID-19 globally and putting the world back to work.

Purpose While it is evident that the introduction of machine learning and the availability of big data have revolutionized various organizational operations and processes, existing academic and practitioner research within decision process literature has mostly ignored the nuances of these influences on human decision-making. Building on existing research in this area, this paper aims to define these concepts from a decision-making perspective and elaborates on the influences of these emerging technologies on human analytical and intuitive decision-making processes. Design/methodology/approach The authors first provide a holistic understanding of important drivers of digital transformation. The authors then conceptualize the impact that analytics tools built on artificial intelligence (AI) and big data have on intuitive and analytical human decision processes in organizations. Findings The authors discuss similarities and differences between machine learning and two human decision processes, namely, analysis and intuition. While it is difficult to jump to any conclusions about the future of machine learning, human decision-makers seem to continue to monopolize the majority of intuitive decision tasks, which will help them keep the upper hand (vis-à-vis machines), at least in the near future. Research limitations/implications The work contributes to research on rational (analytical) and intuitive processes of decision-making at the individual, group and organization levels by theorizing about the way these processes are influenced by advanced AI algorithms such as machine learning. Practical implications Decisions are building blocks of organizational success. Therefore, a better understanding of the way human decision processes can be impacted by advanced technologies will prepare managers to better use these technologies and make better decisions. By clarifying the boundaries/overlaps among concepts such as AI, machine learning and big data, the authors contribute to their successful adoption by business practitioners. Social implications The work suggests that human decision-makers will not be replaced by machines if they continue to invest in what they do best: critical thinking, intuitive analysis and creative problem-solving. Originality/value The work elaborates on important drivers of digital transformation from a decision-making perspective and discusses their practical implications for managers.

Can risk assessment be made fair? The conclusion of Calculating Race returns to actuarial science’s foundations in probability. The roots of probability rest in a pair of problems posed to Blaise Pascal and Pierre de Fermat in the summer of 1654: “the Dice Problem” and “the Division Problem.” From their very foundation, the mathematics of probability offered the potential not only to be used to gain an advantage (as in the case of the Dice Problem), but also to divide material fairly (as in the case of the Division Problem). As the United States and the world enter an age driven by Big Data, algorithms, artificial intelligence, and machine learning and characterized by an actuarialization of everything, we must remember that risk assessment need not be put to use for individual, corporate, or government advantage but, rather, that it has always been capable of guiding how to distribute risk equitably instead.


Subject COVID-19 impact. Significance Costa Rica entered a nationwide lockdown on March 16, as part of government efforts to identify and contain the spread of COVID-19. This lockdown has heavily disrupted economic activity, with non-essential businesses closing and the lucrative tourism sector effectively ceasing to operate. With no end to the crisis in sight, the country is headed for a sharp economic contraction in 2020. Impacts Weak pandemic control measures in Nicaragua will see more Nicaraguans enter Costa Rica illegally. Costa Rica is likely to look to the World Bank for financing support. Domestic tourism will recover before international tourism does once internal travel restrictions are eased, providing some relief.

This paper summarizes how social media and other technologies continue to proliferate; the shifting economic landscape will precipitate more adaptive approaches for managers attempting to understand the multi-dimensional virtual aspects of communication with the artificial intelligence aspect. Also, we discover the different existing support of big data analytics to make a rational business decision. The methodology is the systematization literature sources within this context and approaches for the underlining approach to open big data analytics and support innovative leadership decisions in Canada. The paper is carried out in the following logical sequence to gain an understanding of how customer relations managers could utilize social media within a data analytics frame from scholar and practitioner perspectives. This literature research review original paper outlines the main themes including the role of social media, the experiences of using data analytics for customer relations management, and the notion that customer-centric technologies could change the dynamic of understanding customer intentions, leadership decisions and introduce the innovative management with using the big data analytics in place. The results of the critical thinking with analysis both authors can be useful for any business around the World that would like to start using Artificial Intelligence to support innovative management decisions. The emergent themes that were highlighted based on the realities of customer relations management may be significant to how the integration of social media feedback resulting from crowdsourcing in addition to existing data analytics could better position organizations in this evolving world. The implications of linking innovative management processes such as demographic analysis, platform understanding, and communication methods together are crucial for any public business with a global impact. Finally, the understanding of innovation management in a social media era and understanding how customers utilized open big data analytics sources could help leadership practices across industries around the World. Significance Surveillance tools are increasingly driven by underlying artificial intelligence (AI) systems, which (opaquely) process big data to predict events and outcomes. This is both the risk and benefit of AI: it saves time while potentially skewing the data unbeknown to -- or at the direction of -- its operators, creating opportunities for misuse. With Chinese and Western firms competing for the same security projects, the differences in the underlying ethics of vendors and their systems are under a spotlight. Impacts Facial recognition software will be the most publicly divisive surveillance technology. Ethical standards for surveillance systems will emerge gradually. However, not all Western vendors will adopt them.

Purpose India ranks third in the global startup ecosystem in the world incubating more than 50,000 startups and witnessing 15% YoY growth per year. Being a center of innovation and skilled labor, Indian startups have attracted investments from all over the world. This paper aims at exploring the trends that are driving the growth in the Indian startup ecosystem. Design/methodology/approach Top 200 startups according to valuation are selected as a sample to find out the major trends in the Indian startup ecosystem. This paper includes surveying the sample startups about the implementation of trends such as big data, crowdfunding and shared economy in their startup and its tangible, as well as intangible impacts on their business. The result of the survey is analyzed to get an overview of the emerging trends in the Indian startup ecosystem. Findings Major ten emerging trends that drive growth in the Indian startup ecosystem are discovered and the areas where these trends can be leveraged are identified. Originality/value This research has contributed toward structuring and documenting the growth driving trends, and it will help the budding entrepreneurs to get familiar with the contemporary trends, pros and cons associated with it and the ways to leverage these trends to build a successful startup.

Event tourism has undergone a serious change in the world with developing technology and innovations. In this respect, this chapter examines the direct, marketing, and management effects of technology on event tourism with a literature review. Studies in this field in the literature show that technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, robots, decision support systems, internet of things, 5G cause behavioral changes in tourists; thus, event organizers use these technologies effectively to keep up with this change. In this context, academic studies in the field, new technologies, and methods used, innovation strategies are explained in detail in the book section, and a framework has been developed and presented to examine smart event tourism in detail. The results of the research are thought to contribute to the literature and offer managerial solutions.
