AbstractThe noncircular synchronous belt drive mechanism has demonstrated certain achievements and has been used in special fields. Research regarding noncircular synchronous belt drive mechanisms has focused on optimization design and kinematic analysis in China, whereas two pulley noncircular synchronous belt transmissions have been developed overseas. However, owing to the noncircular characteristics of the belt pulley, the real-time variation in the belt length slack during the transmission of the noncircular synchronous belt is significant, resulting in high probabilities of skipping and vibration. In this study, a noncircular tensioning pulley is added to create a stable three-pulley noncircular synchronous belt driving mechanism and a good synchronous belt tensioning, with no skipping; hence, the non-uniform output characteristic of the driven pulley is consistent with the theoretical value. In the circular noncircular noncircular three-pulley noncircular synchronous belt mechanism, the pitch curve of the driving synchronous belt pulley is circular, whereas those of the driven synchronous belt and tensioning pulleys are noncircular. To minimize the slack of the belt length of the synchronous belt and the constraint of the concavity and circumference of the tensioning pulley, an automatic optimization model of the tensioning pulley pitch curve is established. The motion simulation, analysis, and optimization code for a three-belt-pulley noncircular synchronous belt drive mechanism is written, and the variation in belt length slack under different speed ratios is analyzed based on several examples. The testbed for a circular–noncircular–noncircular three-pulley noncircular synchronous belt transmission mechanism is developed. The test shows that the three-pulley noncircular synchronous belt drives well. This study proposes an automatic optimization algorithm for the tensioning pulley pitch curve of a noncircular synchronous belt transmission mechanism; it yields a stable transmission of the noncircular synchronous belt transmission mechanism as well as non-uniform output characteristics.

Owing to the lack of a good theory method to obtain the accurate equivalent elastic constants of hexagon honeycomb sandwich structure’s core, the paper analyzed mechanics performance of honeycomb sandwich structure’s core and deduced equivalent elastic constants of hexagon honeycomb sandwich structure’s core considering the wall plate expansion deformation’s effect of hexagonal cell. And also a typical satellite sandwich structure was chose as an application to analyze. The commercial finite element program ANSYS was employed to evaluate the mechanics property of hexagon honeycomb core. Numerical simulation analysis and theoretical calculation results show the formulas of equivalent elastic constants is correct and also research results of the paper provide theory basis for satellite cellular sandwich structure optimization design.

Abstract. Now the largeness of circumferential belt and 2 poles in ball billet after cold upsetting process and the consequently low material utilization ratio increase the following process time and cause a great waste. In order to obtain low allowance of ball billet, high material utilization ratio and productivity, through the research of the cold upsetting process, evaluating indicator including plumpness, roundness, cold upsetting force and volume was established, orthogonal test was designed. By the Deform simulation analysis the optimum process parameters was obtained. The results show that the optimized cold upsetting force is reduced by 35%. So the optimized process parameters has a great application value.

Abstract This research focuses on multi-objective system design and optimization. The primary goal is to develop and test a mathematically rigorous and efficient interactive multi-objective optimization algorithm that takes into account the Decision Maker’s (DM’s) preferences during the design process. An Interactive Multi-Objective Optimization Procedure (IMOOP) developed in [12] has been modified in this research to include the DM’s local preference functions in an Iterative Decision Making Strategy (IDMS). This enhanced multiobjective optimization procedure called the interactive MultiObjective Optimization Design Strategy (iMOODS) provides the DM with a formal means for efficient design exploration around a given Pareto point. The use of local preference functions allows the original algorithm [12] to be modified such that the second order Pareto surface approximation is more accurate in the preferred region of the Pareto surface. The iMOODS has been successfully applied to two test problems. The first problem consists of a set of simple analytical expressions for the objectives and constraints. The second problem is the design and sizing of a high-performance and low-cost ten bar structure that has multiple objectives. The results indicate that the class functions are effective in capturing the local preferences of the DM. The Pareto designs that reflect the DM’s preferences can be efficiently generated within IDMS.

In this article, the Pro/Engineer virtual prototyping technology is used for three dimensional entity modeling, assembly, and simulation analysis of 1000KN·m large backstop in four design plans to confirm the integrity and assembling of backstop. By using the ANSYS/LS-DYNA software, it makes numerical simulation analysis of the backstop in non-return process, and through the analysis comparison to the simulation result, it obtains the optimization design plan of the 1000KN·m backstop.

Applied FLUENT simulation software to research the influence of tunnel length, tunnel entrance velocity, tunnel equivalent diameter and tunnel buried depth four important factors on the tunnel wind cooling system in Shenyang area. The results show that, with the increase of tunnel length and tunnel buried depth and with the decrease of tunnel entrance velocity and tunnel equivalent diameter, the outdoor air which passed into the tunnel cooling amplitude increases. For the tunnel wind cooling system optimization design in Shenyang area and the surrounding areas, the advices are that tunnel buried depth should not be more than 6m and tunnel entrance velocity should not be more than 5m/s.

This paper summarizes the results of a simulation analysis to determine the effectiveness of daylighting in reducing electrical energy consumption for office buildings in Egypt. Specifically, the impact on daylighting performance is investigated of window size, building size, daylighting control, and glazing type for three geographical locations in Egypt. It was determined that a window to wall area ratio of 0.20 minimizes the total annual electricity use for office buildings in three Egyptian locations, Cairo, Alexandria, and Aswan. A simplified analysis method is developed based on the analysis results to estimate the annual electrical energy savings attributed to daylighting.

The office buildings in Egypt, especially in Upper Egypt, reflect serious problems in achieving for energy efficiency as a result of increasing the use of mechanical refrigeration devices in office rooms, due to solar radiation and rising summer temperatures in recent years. Smart windows can play an important role in reducing significantly the energy consumption and maintaining energy inside buildings, also helps to control incoming solar radiation in order to minimize solar gain, especially in summer as well as ensuring the best natural lighting conditions without glare inside a room. This paper aims to evaluate the most efficient daylight and thermal performance of various types of the smart glazing and its impact on the energy consumption in the climatic conditions of one of the office buildings (Diwan governorate) in Sohag governorate as one of Upper Egypt governorates, with determining the best smart glass types for efficient use of energy. The paper follows the theoretical, applied, by studying types of smart glazing and their relation to achieving the energy efficiency. Then using (Energy Plus) simulation tool, which has been used in utilizing its modeling orientation (Design Builder) to study using types of smart glazing on the model of an office room in Building of Diwan governorate of Sohag in the four different orientations (North, East, South and West), when window-to-floor ratios (WFRs) (8%, 16%, 24% and 32%). The paper ends with a presentation of the most important results, recommendations and determination the best types of smart glass that provides energy, daylight without glare and providing greater comfort to users.
