Abstract The present article examines the existing problems in pneumo-transporters. It also presents advantages of the proposed improved model and the results of research on the Uster HVI 1000 laboratory equipment with high average length, uniformity index in length, short fiber index. The ability to maximize the natural properties of the products and significantly extend the service life of the separator design through this improved device has been proven on the basis of theoretical and practical analysis.

To ensure safe, comfortable driving at high speeds, a strong, even surface is required for the entire life of the pavement. In this regard, the issue of predicting changes in the equality of coverage over time is very important. The article considers the peculiarities of changing the longitudinal equality of the road surface. Purpose is to improve the model of forecasting the equality of non-rigid pavement. Methods – analytical and experimental. The analysis of existing decisions on the issue of forecasting the equality of coverage is performed. The most important factors influencing the change in the equality of road coverage have been identified. Based on the analysis of theoretical models and a number of experimental data, an improved model for predicting the equality of coverage of non-rigid pavement is proposed. MathCAD and MS Excel were involved in the development of an improved model that takes into account the most important factors. The model of change of coverage roughness, where increase in the roughness index over time is considered as a function of such parameters, is improved: the modulus of pavement elasticity (actual or required); the number of load cycles for t years of pavement operation; the share of trucks in the traffic flow; the factor of safety margin of the pavement structure. The adequacy of the developed model of changing the roughness of coverage is confirmed by statistical processing of experimental data obtained by the thesis author and other researchers on public roads with different service life, and calculated data under the theoretical model. The Pearson correlation coefficient between experimental and calculated data is more than 0.95, which indicates the adequacy of the developed model. Compared to the well-known models of forecasting coverage roughness, the improved model allows to apply a wider range of values of the general equivalent modulus of elasticity of pavement design (from 100 MPa to 600 MPa) and to receive forecast values of roughness for service life of non-rigid pavement over 5 years.

Objectives People with diabetes stay in hospital for longer than those without diabetes for similar conditions. Clinical coding is poor across all specialties. Inpatients with diabetes often have unrecognized foot problems. We wanted to look at the relationships between these factors. Design A single day audit, looking at the prevalence of diabetes in all adult inpatients. Also looking at their feet to find out how many were high-risk or had existing problems. Setting A 998-bed university teaching hospital. Participants All adult inpatients. Main outcome measures (a) To see if patients with diabetes and foot problems were in hospital for longer than the national average length of stay compared with national data; (b) to see if there were people in hospital with acute foot problems who were not known to the specialist diabetic foot team; and (c) to assess the accuracy of clinical coding. Results We identified 110 people with diabetes. However, discharge coding data for inpatients on that day showed 119 people with diabetes. Length of stay (LOS) was substantially higher for those with diabetes compared to those without (± SD) at 22.39 (22.26) days, vs. 11.68 (6.46) ( P < 0.001). Finally, clinical coding was poor with some people who had been identified as having diabetes on the audit, who were not coded as such on discharge. Conclusion Clinical coding – which is dependent on discharge summaries – poorly reflects diagnoses. Additionally, length of stay is significantly longer than previous estimates. The discrepancy between coding and diagnosis needs addressing by increasing the levels of awareness and education of coders and physicians. We suggest that our data be used by healthcare planners when deciding on future tariffs.

The enterprises of China have known lean production for nearly 30 years. With the growth of its application scope, it is necessary to put forward one method to measure lean production’s implementation ability. Because without scientific measurement, enterprises can’t find the existing problems or waste sources, so it is hard for them to realize continuous improvement. Under this background, this paper applies fuzzy theory into LP’s implementation ability appraisal. Meanwhile considering the flaws of fuzzy theory, one improved model is put forward. After relative introduction to the improved model, one case is displayed. Through this example, this paper shows the calculation procedure of this model as well as its scientific, reasonability.

The micro-cracks in concrete structures are inevitable due to deterioration throughout their service life through various load combination factors. For that reason, there is a need to repair and maintain the concrete in order to prevent the cracks from propagating, which can decrease the service life of the structure. Using bacteria is one of the possible solutions to repair and heal the cracks. Recent research has shown that, in order to achieve the extended service life of a concrete material, a bio-influenced material, such as bacteria, can be used in order to induce the autonomous self-healing of cracks in concrete. Many researchers are still exploring the potential of bacteria for improving the durability and strength of concrete. However, an inclusive literature review revealed that a self-healing mechanism using bacteria can still be improved. There is an imperative need to conduct a comprehensive review about the recent development of and studies into the self-healing mechanism of concrete, in particular with the behavior of bacteria and its effect on the macro, micro and nanostructure of the concrete matrix. This review article can reveal the potential research gap, predict the emerging research topics and define all existing problems or challenges about the bio-influenced self-healing mechanism in concrete. The latest articles are summarized and analyzed using the Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) in Matlab software in order to come up with a possible area of development and future research into bio-concrete. Microencapsulated technology and acoustic emission could be the emerging methods for evaluating the performance of the bacteria and detecting real time cracks inside the concrete matrix in the future. However, there are still existing problems and challenges regarding the adoption of bacteria in the field of construction industry.

The authors of the article discuss some aspects of inclined tunnel escalators in St. Petersburg metro, related to the aging of the equipment and the necessity of its replacement in accordance with the new regulations; they propose some options for solving the existing problems. Secure work of escalators could be achieved and maintained by two ways: by designing new models of escalators with modern technologies at the basis, as well as by constant control over existing escalators working conditions during exploitation period. Authors show that the introduction of new regulatory requirements has asked for improving the design of escalators with the decrease of their lateral dimension in order to accommodate four machines in a tunnel. Authors also proposed methods of examining technical conditions of escalators at the final stage of their service life with the aim of extending it as well as for periodic evaluation of their technical condition using magnetic and magneto-acoustic technology in addition to the usual procedures.

Electroless nickel has been used to prepare composite coatings with embedded nanoparticles. Surfactants and agitation methods have marginal effects on the deposition behavior of electroless composite coatings. Many researchers have investigated the influences of nanoparticles including WC, SiC, Al2O3 and diamond on the tribological properties of composite coatings. The present article reviewed mainly the advancement of electroless Ni-P nanocomposite coatings in recent years. The existing problems and the suggestions for the further study of composite coatings were indicated.
