Abstract As part of urbanization, waste causes a significant challenge in Indonesia. As part of the solution to this challenge is applying the landfill gas (LFG) powerplant. Various efforts are being conducted to implement the LFG powerplant in Indonesia. The literature review was conducted to focusing on the performance sustainability of the LFG powerplant. The explaining power capacity, expected energy supply, actual energy supply, problems, and their cause and impact data are presented. All LFG power plants show technical problems, such as leakage gas pipe, defected gas capture, absence of gas storage and purification equipment, and limited monitoring system. Financial and social challenges exacerbate the technical issues that risk the system’s sustainability, such as unclear funding mechanism, lack of capacity from stakeholders, and conflict with the local community. All of the issues hindered achieving performance targets in the powerplant development, operation, and maintenance phase.

Due to the increase in energy demand, many countries suffer from energy poverty because of insufficient and expensive energy supply. Plans to use alternative power like nuclear power for electricity generation are being revived among developing countries. Decisions for installation of power plants need to be based on careful assessment of future energy supply and demand, economic and financial implications and requirements for technology transfer. Since the problem involves many vague parameters, a fuzzy model should be an appropriate approach for dealing with this problem. This study develops a Fuzzy Multi-Objective Linear Programming (FMOLP) model for solving the nuclear power plant installation problem in fuzzy environment. FMOLP approach is recommended for cases where the objective functions are imprecise and can only be stated within a certain threshold level. The proposed model attempts to minimize total duration time, total cost and maximize the total crash time of the installation project. By using FMOLP, the weighted additive technique can also be applied in order to transform the model into Fuzzy Multiple Weighted-Objective Linear Programming (FMWOLP) to control the objective values such that all decision makers target on each criterion can be met. The optimum solution with the achievement level for both of the models (FMOLP and FMWOLP) are compared with each other. FMWOLP results in better performance as the overall degree of satisfaction depends on the weight given to the objective functions. A numerical example demonstrates the feasibility of applying the proposed models to nuclear power plant installation problem.

An energy supply system consists of a system of power plants and transmission anddistribution systems that supply electrical energy. The present project is limited to the modellingof the generation system. Its objective is the design and implementation of a web-basedapplication for simulating energy supply systems using the Laravel framework. The projectfocuses on six modules representing geothermal energy, solar energy, biopower, hydropower,storage, and fossil-based energy that are allocated to satisfy a given power demand. It isexecuted as a time series modelling for an exemplary year with hourly resolution. Thedevelopment of the software is divided into four steps, which are the definition of the userrequirements, the system design (activity, use case, system architecture, and ERD), the softwaredevelopment, and the software testing (unit testing, functionality testing, validity testing, anduser acceptance testing). The software is successfully implemented. All the features of thesoftware work as intended. Also, the software goes through validity testing using three differentinput data, to make sure the software is accurate. The result of the testing is 100% accuracy withrespect to the underlying model that was implemented in an excel calculation.

В статье рассмотрено современное состояние энергоснабжения и перспективы развития альтернативных источников энергии на территории Крайнего Севера. Отмечено, что несмотря на острую потребность во внедрении возобновляемых источников энергии, установленные мощности всех ветряных и солнечных электростанций в регионе не превышают 7-8 МВт. Также в работе рассчитаны технический и экономический потенциал ветровой энергии региона, на основании которых подобрана наиболее эффективная установка. The article discusses the current state of energy supply and the prospects for the development of alternative energy sources in the Far North. It is noted that despite the urgent need for the introduction of renewable energy sources, the installed capacities of all wind and solar power plants in the region do not exceed 7-8 MW. Also, the technical and economic potential of the region’s wind energy was calculated based on which the most efficient installation was selected.

Sustainable food system ensures adequate and safe food supply in an eco-friendly manner. We assessed food sustainability perception and practices of local community through structured interviews in sub-alpine settlements of Uttarakhand Himalaya. Major perceived challenges towards food sustainability were identified using Rank-Based Quotient analysis. Association with various socio-demographic factors (e.g., age, gender, education, socio-economy, and socio-culture) was tested. An overall neutral perception (mean score 2.9) and moderately sustainable practices (mean score 3.1) were observed. Respondents with higher socio-cultural score showed more sustainable food sourcing practices and more positive social and economic sustainability perception, as well as higher participatory willingness. Female respondents were more dependent on sustainable food sources than the males. Education level influenced food quality choice. People identified higher food production cost as major economic constraint; while small landholdings and labor migration were main social challenges. Land and water management issues and climate uncertainty were the major environmental constraints. Socio-cultural exposure played significant role in ranking these sustainability constraints. We encourage direct involvement of socio-culturally active people and conducting extensive outreach programs for future sustainable local food system in vulnerable Himalayan valleys.

Abstract Lack of investment in the electricity sector has created a huge bottleneck in the continuous flow of energy in the market, and this will create many problems for the sustainable growth and development of modern society. The main reason for this lack of investment is the investment risk in the electricity sector. One way to reduce portfolio risk is to diversify it. This study applies the concept of portfolio optimization to demonstrate the potential for greater use of renewable energy, which reduces the risk of investing in the electricity sector. Besides, it shows that investing in renewable energies can offset the risk associated with the total input costs. These costs stem from the volatility of associated prices, including fossil fuel, capital costs, maintenance, operation and environmental costs. This case study shows that Iran can theoretically supply ~33% of its electricity demand from renewable energy sources compared to its current 15% share. This case study confirms this finding and predicts that Iran, while reducing the risk of investing in electricity supply, can achieve a renewable energy supply of ~9% with an average increase in supply costs. Sensitivity analysis further shows that with a 10% change in input cost factors, the percentage of renewable energy supply is only partially affected, but basket costs change according to the scenario of 5–32%. Finally, suggestions are made that minimize risk rather than cost, which will bring about an increase in renewable energy supply.

Utilizou-se a realidade brasileira no que tange o estudo para implantação de PCHs, a legislação nacional e órgãos envolvidos no processo como: Agência Nacional de Energia Elétrica (ANEEL), Agência Nacional de Águas (ANA), Departamento de Água e Energia Elétrica (DAEE) e Companhia Ambiental do Estado de São Paulo (CETESB). O processo de estudo de um potencial hidráulico conta com cinco fases: Estimativa do Potencial Hidrelétrico; Inventário Hidrelétrico; Estudo de Viabilidade; Projeto Básico e Projeto Executivo. Em consonância a este processo é necessário realizar o Estudo de Impacto Ambiental (EIA) e o respectivo Relatório de Impacto Ambiental (Rima). Como ambiente de diálogo entre todos os atores envolvidos, o processo de licenciamento ambiental conta com as audiências públicas, nessas devem ocorrer trocas de informações e conhecimento das demandas dos diversos envolvidos, inclusive da comunidade local, sua efetiva participação é fundamental para a otimização o projeto nos âmbito socioambiental.   Palavras-chaves: PCHs, licenciamento ambiental, comunicação.   THE SHPs STUDY AND IMPLEMENTATION PROCESS AND IMPORTANCE OF ENVIRONMENTAL LICENSING FOR COMMUNICATION BETWEEN ENTREPRENEURS AND LOCAL COMMUNITY   ABSTRACT: The aim of this paper was to present the process of study and implementation of Small Hydroelectric Power Plants (SHPs), local community participation and the importance of their effective participation. The Brazilian reality was used in the study for the implementation of SHPs, as well as, national legislation and public agencies involved in the process, such as: National Electricity Agency (ANEEL), National Water Agency (ANA), Department of Water and Electric Energy (DAEE) and Environmental Company of the State of São Paulo (CETESB). The process of hydraulic potential study has five stages: hydropower potential estimation; hydraulic inventory; viability study; basic project and executive project.  It is also necessary to carry out the Environmental Impact Study (EIA) and Environmental Impact Report (RIMA). According to all the actors involved, the environmental licensing process relies on public hearings, where must occur change of information and knowledge stakeholders demands, including the local community, which effective participation is fundamental for the optimization of the project socio-environmental scope. Keywords: SHPs, environmental licensing, communication.

Nowadays, the development of nuclear energy is determined by solving the set of scientific and technical problems that provides reliable, safe and sustainable work of the operated and designed NPPs. At the same time different accident conditions and likelihood (probability) of variant equipment operating failures are analyzed. Obtained operating experience of the mixing low-pressure heaters (LPH) at thermal power plants (TPP) and NPPs shows that pulsations occur in some operation regimes of LPH turbine which lead to inner element destructions of LPH and pipeline malfunctions. These circumstances negatively affect operation of equipment that locates after LPH in condensate-supply tract. Consequently, unit capacity factor and economic indicators descend since troubleshooting for LPH mechanisms require some time and material resources. This work presents the experimental facility design and description of main design features of the facility components. The stand was designed to study the processes that lead to the vibration appearance in mixing LPH in condensate-supply tract of K-1000-60/3000 turbines. The main task of scale modeling is the need to observe equivalent conditions of the thermal-hydraulic processes behavior in the model in relation to full-scale equipment. To solve this problem using ANSYS code a preliminary simulation of hydraulic processes occurring in the experimental facility was performed. This allowed to determine in advance certain design features in the design of given facility. The results of experimental studies of the developed facility should allow to develop measures for reduction or complete elimination of vibrations in mixing LPH, as well as to validate computer programs for design analysis of stationary and non-stationary thermal-hydraulic processes in the specified equipment and designed measures testing.
