Summary A sensitivity analysis in an observational study tests whether the qualitative conclusions of an analysis would change if we were to allow for the possibility of limited bias due to confounding. The design sensitivity of a hypothesis test quantifies the asymptotic performance of the test in a sensitivity analysis against a particular alternative. We propose a new, nonasymptotic, distribution-free test, the uniform general signed rank test, for observational studies with paired data, and examine its performance under Rosenbaum’s sensitivity analysis model. Our test can be viewed as adaptively choosing from among a large underlying family of signed rank tests, and we show that the uniform test achieves design sensitivity equal to the maximum design sensitivity over the underlying family of signed rank tests. Our test thus achieves superior design sensitivity, indicating it will perform well in sensitivity analyses on large samples. We support this conclusion with simulations and a data example, showing that the advantages of our test extend to moderate sample sizes as well.

Gene expression data from microarray experiments have been studied using several statistical models. Significance Analysis of Microarrays (SAM), for example, has proved to be useful in analyzing microarray data. In the spirit of the SAM procedures, we develop permutation based rank-tests for generalized Wilcoxon ranksum test for two-group comparisons of replicated microarray data. Also, for microarray experiments with randomized block design, we consider generalized signed rank test. The statistical analysis software package is written in R and is freely available in a package.

The fitness condition of the elderly is an indicator that can be used to determine the health level of the elderly. The level of physical activity is one of the factors that determine body composition from childhood to old age, proper flexibility helps people to have a functional balance throughout their life and to participate fully in countless recreational and communitarian activities. Lack of reasonable flexibility a greater chance of developing lesions and functional problems. Gymnastics for the elderly is a sport that can be done regularly so that the fitness of the elderly can increase. The study was to determine the effect of elderly exercise on improving fitness and flexibility and speed in the elderly in Sionom Hudon Selatan Village in 2020. Method of research is Quasi Experiment or quasi-experimental research with the design or research design used is one group pre and post test conducted in the Village of Sionom Hudon Selatan. The sample consisted of 12 people in each action taken. The results of the hypothesis test with the Wilcoxon signed rank test test p value α = (0.002 <0.05) which means "There is an effect of Giving Elderly Gymnastics Against Improvement of Fitness and Flexibility and Speed in the Elderly in the Village of Zion South Hudon in 2020".

Eight patients with stable cirrhosis received DDAVP (0.3ug/kg I. V. of Desmopressin acetate, Ferring Pharmaceuticals) and this dose was repeated after 4h and 24h. Blood for haemostatic studies was collected immediately before and lh after each dose. Results, shown below as medians (expressed in u/dl), with ranges in parentheses, were analysed using the Wilcoxon signed rank test for paired data. One hour after the first dose, von Willebrand factor antigen (VW:ag) and Ristocetin co-factor activity (Ricof) rose from 380 (182-1060) to 502 (230-1000), p<0.01 and from 400 (154-1200) to 494 (180-1600), p<0.01 respectively. This rise was sustained at 4h but increased further lh after the second dose: VW:ag to 540 (305-1000) and Ricof to 570 (420-1150), p<0.01. Levels were significantly above baseline (p<0.01) at 24h but rose again after the third dose: VW:ag to 540 (300-1180), p=<0.01 and Ricof to 479 (277-625). A similar but less marked response was seen in factor VIII:C from 220 (112-300) to 300 (128-360) p= 0.01 at lh, which was maintained up to 4h but not 24h. The rise after the second and third dose was not significant. Multimeric analysis of VWF showed an increase in the very high MW oligomers after DDAVP. Irrespective of the basal value, the euglobulin lysis time shortened consistently after DDAVP and platelet aggregation showed an enhancement with ristocetin, a decrease with adrenaline and no change with adenosine diphosphate and collagen. The bleeding time shortened in half the patients but did not correlate with other changes. We conclude that rises in VW:ag and Ricof are sustained with repeated doses of DDAVP despite the high initial levels in cirrhotics, whereas rises in VIII:C and fibrinolytic activity are transient.

When zeroes (or ties within pairs) occur in data being analyzed with a sign test or a signed rank test, nonparametric methods textbooks and software consistently recommend that the zeroes be deleted and the data analyzed as though zeroes did not exist. This advice is not consistent with the objectives of the majority of applications. In most settings a better approach would be to view the tests as testing hypotheses about a population median. There are relatively simple p-values available that are consistent with this viewpoint of the tests. These methods produce tests with good properties for testing a different (often more appropriate) set of hypotheses than those addressed by tests that delete the zeroes.

The paired sample t-test is a type of classical test statistics that is used to test the difference between two means in paired data, but it is not robust against the violation of the normality assumption. In this paper, some alternative robust tests are suggested by combining the Jackknife resampling with each of the Wilcoxon signed-rank test for small sample size and Wilcoxon signed-rank test for large sample size, using normal approximation. The Monte Carlo simulation experiments were employed to study the performance of the test statistics of each of these tests depending on the type one error rates and the power rates of the test statistics. All these tests were applied on different sample sizes generated from three distributions, represented by Bivariate normal distribution, contaminated Bivariate normal distribution, and Bivariate exponential distribution.

The working practice of the engineering students is part of the learning process that is irreducible and indispensable. The composition of  lecturing between theoretical and practical one is 40% to 60%. With this condition, the students spend more time at the laboratory. Generally, the students perform in the laboratory work by standing position. The design of research is observational cross-sectional. The method applied is observation, interview and measuring. The subjects of research are practicing students amounting to 21 students. Referring to the analysis of statistical test or Wilcoxon signed ranks test, the difference of effect of work position is significant, namely p < 0.05 towards musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) before and after working. The quantity of the average complaint after working is score 44.62 ± 9.47. The result of Wilcoxon signed rank test shows that there is significant different effects of standing work position, namely p < 0.05 towards fatigue generally before and after working. The degree of the working pulse is on the average of 110.78  ± 17.80 bpm (beats per minutes) which can be categorized into the medium workload. Using paired t-test, the result is p < 0.05.
