Abstract To improve the characterization of electrophoretic lipoprotein subfractions, we developed two new techniques for analyzing lipoproteins after electrophoresis on thin agarose layers. Overlay with antisera exactly localizes specific apoproteins without any distortion caused by antigen diffusion; electron microscopy of eluted fractions determines the varying particle-size distribution. Applied together, these methods can detect individual differences between hyperlipemic samples that are not immediately apparent in the electrophoretic pattern, and should provide valuable new insight into the classification of hyperlipoproteinemias.

Myogenesis in man was studied using muscle from 19 fetuses of 8 to 16 weeks gestation which were processed with standard osmium-Epon or glutaraldehyde-osmium-Epon schedules and sections were stained in uranyl acetate and/or lead hydroxide. Particular emphasis was given during this study to presence of basement membrane and myofilaments as additional aids in classification of cell types present in developing muscle.Electron microscopy permits accurate identification of fibroblasts and early cells of muscle series and has been used in studies of myogenesis in chick, and rat. Light microscopy definitions for premyoblasts and myoblasts, and for myocytes at the myotube and muscle fiber stages of development are difficult to apply to electron microscopic studies without modification. For example the term myoblast was used differently by Tello, Katznelson and Boyd to designate a cell destined to become muscle but not recognizable as a muscle cell.

A number of viral agents are recognized as and suspected of causing the clinical condition “gastroenteritis.” In our attempts to establish an animal model for studies of this entity, we have been examining the nonhuman primate to ascertain what viruses may be found in the intestinal tract of “normal” animals as well as animals with diarrhea. Several virus types including coronavirus, adenovirus, herpesvirus, and picornavirus (Table I) were detected in our colony; however, rotavirus, astrovirus, and calicivirus have not yet been observed. Fecal specimens were prepared for electron microscopy by procedures reported previously.

<p>Pada penelitian ini telah dilakukan isolasi dan karakterisasi bentonit alam menjadi nanopartikel montmorillonit. Bentonit alam yang digunakan diambil dari desa Blangdalam, Kecamatan Nisam Kabupaten Aceh Utara.  Proses isolasi meliputi proses pelarutan dengan aquades, ultrasonic dan proses sedimentasi. Untuk mengetahui karakterisasi montmorillonit dilakukan uji FT-IR, X-RD dan uji morfologi permukaan dengan Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Partikel size analyzer untuk menganalisis dan menentukan ukuran nanopartikel dari isolasi bentonit alam. Dari hasil penelitian didapat ukuran nanopartikel montmorillonit hasil isolasi dari bentonit alam diperoleh berdiameter rata-rata 82,15 nm.</p><p><em>In this research we have isolated and characterized natural bentonite into montmorillonite nanoparticles. Natural bentonite used was taken from Blangdalam village, Nisam sub-district, North Aceh district. The isolation process includes dissolving process with aquades, ultrasonic and sedimentation processes.  The characterization of montmorillonite, FT-IR, X-RD and surface morphology test by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Particle size analyzer to analyze and determine the size of nanoparticles from natural bentonite insulation. From the research results obtained the size of montmorillonite nanoparticles isolated from natural bentonite obtained an average diameter of 82.15 nm.</em></p>

Water-soluble gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were prepared using 2-mercapto-4-methyl-5- thiazoleacetic acid (MMTA) as a stabilizing agent and sodium borohydride (NaBH4) as a reducing agent. The AuNPs product was analyzed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UV-vis absorption spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The TEM image shows that the particles were well-dispersed and their average particle size is about 5 nm. The UV-vis absorption and FTIR spectra confirm that the MMTA-AuNPs was stabilized by the carboxylate ions present on the surface of the AuNPs.

Green synthesis of nickel oxide nanoparticles (NiO NPs) usingPhysalisangulataleaf extract (PALE) as weak base sources and stabilizing agents has been reported. Chemical bonding and vibration spectroscopy, crystallographic structure, optical band gap, particle size and microscopic studies of NiO NPs were also investigated. Ni-O vibration modes of NiO NPs were analyzed by FTIR and Raman instrument at ~400 and ~900 cm-1wavenumber. XRD pattern of NiO NPs confirmed cubic crystal structure with space groupFm-3m.Optical band gap of NiO NPs determined by using Tauc plot method was about 3.42 eV. Particle size analyzer showed size distribution of NiO NPs was 64.13 nm which confirm NiO formed in nanoscale. Electron microscopic studies of NiO NPs were observed by using scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy.

Objective: This study aimed to prepare and characterize anti-acne ethosomes using the cold- and thin-layer hydration methods.Methods: A sonication step was included during ethosome preparation to improve the quality of the cold method. Azelaic acid, Phospholipon 90G,ethanol, propylene glycol, and phosphate buffer (pH 7.4) were used in the procedures. Prepared ethosomal suspensions were characterized usingtransmission electron microscopy, particle-size analysis, and spectrophotometry.Results: Ethosomes prepared using the thin-layer hydration method (F1) had small unilamellar vesicles, while those prepared using the cold methodwith 15-min sonication (F4) showed spherical, elliptical, unilamellar, and multilamellar vesicles. F1 ethosomes had a Dmean volume of 648.57±231.26,whereas those prepared using the cold method with 5- (F2), 10- (F3), and 15-min (F4) sonication had Dmean volumes of 2734.04±231.49 nm,948.90±394.52 nm, and 931.69±471.84 nm, respectively. Polydispersity indices of F2, F3, and F4 ethosomes were 0.74±0.21, 0.86±0.05, and 0.91±0.03,respectively, with a poor particle-size distribution, compared to that of F1 (0.39±0.01). Zeta potentials of F1–F4 ethosomes were −38.27±1.72 mV,−23.53±1.04 mV, −31.4±1.04 mV, and −34.3±1.61 mV, respectively. Entrapment efficiencies of F1–F4 ethosomes were 90.71±0.11%, 53.84±3.16%,72.56±0.28%, and 75.11±1.42%, respectively.Conclusion: Anti-acne ethosomes produced using the thin-layer hydration method had superior properties than those produced using the coldmethod with 15-min sonication.

Purpose This paper aims to investigate the structural, corrosion and the study of tribocorrosion features of the AA7075 aluminum alloy with and without the application of electroless Ni-P/Ni-B duplex coating with a thickness of approximately 40 microns. Design/methodology/approach Surface characterization of the samples was made by structural surveys (light optic microscope, scanning electron microscopic examinations and X-ray diffraction analyses), hardness measurements, corrosion and tribocorrosion tests. Findings Results of the experiments showed that upper Ni-B coating deposited on the surface of first Ni-P layer by duplex treatment caused remarkable increment in the hardness, corrosion resistance and tribocorrosion performance as compared to the AA7075 aluminum alloy. Originality/value This study can be a practical reference and offers insight into the effects of duplex treating on the increase of hardness, corrosion and tribocorrosion performance.

In present work, ceria microspheres were synthesized by template hydrothermal method. Crystalline form of the as-synthesized ceria microspheres was defined by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). Dispersibility of ceria microspheres was comprehensively characterized using scanning electron microscope (SEM) observation and laser particle size analyzer. Furthermore, the ultraviolet light absorption performances of ceria microspheres with several different sizes were compared by ultraviolet visible spectrophotometer. The results showed that ceria microspheres presented excellent UV absorbent property and the size influence was remarkable.

In this article, we have studied the process of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) aggregation and to stop aggregation 0.3% Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) was used. Aggregation study carried out via UV-vis spectroscopy and it is reported that the absorption spectrum of spherical silver nanoparticles were found a maximum peak at 420 nm wavelength. Furthermore, Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) were used to characterized the size and shape of AgNPs, where the average particle size is around 10 to 25 nm in diameter and the AgNPs shape is spherical. Next, Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) were used, owing to observed size distribution and self-correlation of AgNPs.
