Abstract Caring for a person living with dementia (PLWD) can take a physical and emotional toll, but understudied is the process of how family caregivers actually provide care (caregiver management styles). We interviewed 100 primary family caregivers regarding management of a recently experienced care challenge and values held which might impact care management decisions. Watkins’ (2017) rigorous and accelerated data reduction (RADaR) technique was used to analyze qualitative data through open/focused coding, determining commonalities of style components/themes, and finally defining caregiving management styles. Style for a given caregiver emerged from enacted care strategies, caregiver’s internal stances which informed their use of strategies, and broader engagement (or lack thereof) with the PLWD’s lived experience/reality. Styles emerging from the analysis will be described including the direct, rigid “Just do it” style, and the flexible, empathic “Teamwork” style. Individualizing caregiver interventions and supports based on caregiver management style is an important future direction.

This article explores the experience and meaning of time from the perspective of caregivers who have recently been bereaved following the death of a family member. The study is situated within the broader cultural tendency to understand bereavement within the logic of stages, including the perception of bereavement as a somewhat predictable and certainly time-delimited ascent from a nadir in death to a ‘new normal’ once loss is accepted. Drawing on qualitative data from interviews with 15 bereaved family caregivers we challenge bereavement as a linear, temporally bound process, examining the multiple ways bereavement is experienced and how it variously resists ideas about the timeliness, desirability and even possibility of ‘recovery’. We posit, on the basis of these accounts, that the lived experience of bereavement offers considerable challenges to normative understandings of the social ties between the living and the dead and requires a broader reconceptualization of bereavement as an enduring affective state.

Background: Family caregivers play a key role in the lives of patients with multiple myeloma. However, very little is known about the impact that the disease (its diagnosis, course and prognosis) has on the main family caregiver. Aim: To achieve a deeper understanding of the lived experience of individuals who are the primary caregiver of a relative with multiple myeloma and to shed light on their needs. Design: Interpretative phenomenological study. Setting and participants: A total of 12 individuals who were the main family caregivers of a relative with multiple myeloma who was under outpatient follow-up at a cancer unit in Barcelona were recruited via purposive sampling until data saturation was reached. In semi-structured in-depth interviews, participants described their experiences of caring for their relative with multiple myeloma. Interviews were recorded, transcribed and analysed using ATLAS.ti v7.2. The seven steps proposed by Colaizzi were used for data analysis, and the relationships among emerging themes were examined. Findings: Four main themes emerged: (a) a new life, adapting to the disease, (b) commitment to the patient, (c) the emotional sphere and (d) experiences in relation to the care and support received. The analysis also revealed a core overarching theme: uncertainty. Conclusion: Primary family caregivers experienced intense uncertainty, and they described a strong need to air their feelings. Specific practical initiatives, targeting both health-related and logistical aspects of care, need to be developed in order to support family caregivers of myeloma patients.

Amongst various definitions of Management, one of them declares it as the activity of controlling something, or of using or dealing with something in a way that is effective. Management style refers to a distinctive manner or custom of behaving or conducting oneself. In the field of management, the challenge of any study is the absence of a single conclusive solution to a management problem. There exists a perennial need to identify robust & practical management styles that help in mastering the art of management. Theoretically, there could possibly be as many styles as the number of managers. It is evident that each style as enunciated by any one school of thought excludes some dimensions of management which are then captured in other styles by another school of thought. This paper aims at identifying, codifying, sequencing, and articulating various Management Styles based on Ancient Indian Wisdom. Using Qualitative Data Analysis methodology & applying the Grounded Theory Approach, based on both contemporary thought as well as the Guna (Nature) theory, given in the ancient Indian texts, this paper evolves six universal management styles, viz, Management by Self Transformation, Management by Good Counsel, Management by Time, Management by Luminous Unactivity, Management by Passionate Activity, and Management by Indolent Activity.

Family caregivers of patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) play a significant role in providing substantial care for a prolonged period for their sick relatives, often with very limited resources, making it a difficult environment. Government support for family caregivers of patients with ESRD is lacking in Nigeria, increasing their vulnerability to caregiver burden and its consequences. An action research study using a complimentary mixed-method approach was used to develop the intervention model for managing caregiver burden. Quantitative data were collected to measure the extent of caregiver burden using a Zarit Burden Interview questionnaire for 96 family caregivers, while individual in-depth interviews with 15 participants provided the qualitative data. Integrating the quantitative and qualitative data led to the identification of four moderators to manage the caregiver burden in this study. The model for managing caregiver burden was developed from the findings, using stressors and associated moderators of caregiving, and the role played by culture and finance in this context. An implementation checklist was developed, which was used by registered nurses to implement the concepts in the model with the family caregivers during the model implementation phase. Family caregivers of patients with ESRD need to be supported by nurses during the caregiving process. Nurses can increase caregivers’ identity and knowledge of the disease as a way of preventing the family caregivers from being overwhelmed by their caregiving role.

Lewy body disease (LBD) is a devastating condition with cognitive and physical deficits that pose a challenge to family caregivers. The purpose of this study was to identify the needs and concerns of family caregivers of persons with LBD. A convenience sample of LBD caregivers were interviewed regarding their caregiving needs, concerns, strategies, and advice. A content analysis approach was used to organize data into themes from an existing needs and concerns framework. Findings included the need for more information about the disease, strategies for managing LBD-related emotions and behaviors, support and assistance with physical and instrumental care, and strategies for managing one’s own personal responses to caregiving. Findings highlight the need for a Lewy body specific caregiver assessment tool and future caregiver interventions.

The present study was aimed to examine the effect of relationship-oriented and task-oriented management styles on organizational atmosphere in Tehran's high schools in 2016. Research method was practical in terms of objective; and it was survey-descriptive in terms of data collection. The statistical population consisted of all high school managers in Tehran, from which 322 individuals were selected as sample size, using Cochran Formula and Stratified Cluster Sampling Method. Data collection was done based on Halpin and Croft's Organizational Climate questionnaire, and Bardtz and Matenkas's management Style questionnaire. After collecting the questionnaires, data were examined and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling method and Smart PLS software in two sections: 1) measurement model and 2) structural section. In the first section, technical features of the questionnaires included reliability, convergent validity, divergent validity, which were examined through PLS. In the second section, the software's significance coefficients were used for examining research hypotheses. Finally, findings approved of the effect of relationship-oriented and task-oriented management styles on organizational climate in Tehran's high schools.
