Decoding search and partnerships across news, journalism, and social media

Semantic news tags processed via cloud servers are in amongst big data and machine learning systems. The latter may have influenced Murdoch’s acquisition of a ‘social media news agency’, and other partnerships, as a mix of new roles across journalism, analytics, and search emerged. Some editing roles in journalism focus on SEO, but Murdoch’s Storyful, which started as a verification business created jobs for cloud operations engineers, viral video editors, and trends editors. Data-mining techniques were a lure for news and social media partnerships circa 2013–2016. In the name of verification, access to big data was matched by social media gaining credibility, evident in Facebook Newswire and other journalism projects. Deep learning methods in search, referrals, and automated tagging have also produced mutual benefits, mostly via third party agreements. However, data sharing for political ends by targeting particular users, and verification projects, have not stopped fake news.

All these types of analytics have been answering business questions for a long time about the principal methods of investigating data warehouses. Especially data mining and business intelligence systems support decision makers to reach the information they want. Many existing systems are trying to keep up with a phenomenon that has changed the rules of the game in recent years. This is undoubtedly the undeniable attraction of 'big data'. In particular, the issue of evaluating the big data generated especially by social media is among the most up-to-date issues of business analytics, and this issue demonstrates the importance of integrating machine learning into business analytics. This section introduces the prominent machine learning algorithms that are increasingly used for business analytics and emphasizes their application areas.

In recent years, the machine learning community has witnessed rapid growth in the development of deep learning and its application. Unlike other software that can be installed through the package manager, developing machine learning systems usually need to search for the source code or start from scratch, debug and then deploy to production. It usually costs much for small companies and research institutions to run, test, evaluate, deploy and monitor machine learning system. In this paper, we proposed a machine learning package manager aiming to assist users1) find potentially useful models,2) resolve dependencies,3) deploy as HTTP service. By using the MLPM, users are enabled to easily adopt existing and well-established machine learning algorithms and libraries to their project within few steps. MLPM also allows third-party extensions to be installed, which makes the system customizable according to users’ workflow.rpose

After Deep Learning (DL) regained popularity recently, the Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Machine Learning (ML) field is undergoing rapid growth concerning research and real-world application development. Deep Learning has generated complexities in algorithms, and researchers and users have raised concerns regarding the usability and adoptability of Deep Learning systems. These concerns, coupled with the increasing human-AI interactions, have created the emerging field that is Human-Centered Machine Learning (HCML). We present this review paper as an overview and analysis of existing work in HCML related to DL. Firstly, we collaborated with field domain experts to develop a working definition for HCML. Secondly, through a systematic literature review, we analyze and classify 162 publications that fall within HCML. Our classification is based on aspects including contribution type, application area, and focused human categories. Finally, we analyze the topology of the HCML landscape by identifying research gaps, highlighting conflicting interpretations, addressing current challenges, and presenting future HCML research opportunities.

Big Data is a very popular term today. Everywhere you turn companies and organizations are talking about their Big Data solutions and Analytic applications. The source of the data used in these applications varies. However, one type of data is of great interest to most organizations, Social Media Data. Social Media applications are used by a large percentage of the world’s population. The ability to instantly connect and reach other people and companies over distributed distances is an important part of today’s society. Social Media applications allow users to share comments, opinions, ideas, and media with friends, family, businesses, and organizations. The data contained in these comments, ideas, and media are valuable to many types of organizations. Through Data Mining and Analysis, it is possible to predict specific behavior in users of the applications. Currently, several technologies aid in collecting, analyzing, and displaying this data. These technologies allow users to apply this data to solve different problems, in different organizations, including the finance, medicine, environmental, education, and advertising industries. This paper aims to highlight the current technologies used in Data Mining and Analyzing Social Media data, the industries using this data, as well as the future of this field.

Resource-constrained IoT devices, such as sensors and actuators, have become ubiquitous in recent years. This has led to the generation of large quantities of data in real-time, which is an appealing target for AI systems. However, deploying machine learning models on such end-devices is nearly impossible. A typical solution involves offloading data to external computing systems (such as cloud servers) for further processing but this worsens latency, leads to increased communication costs, and adds to privacy concerns. To address this issue, efforts have been made to place additional computing devices at the edge of the network, i.e., close to the IoT devices where the data is generated. Deploying machine learning systems on such edge computing devices alleviates the above issues by allowing computations to be performed close to the data sources. This survey describes major research efforts where machine learning systems have been deployed at the edge of computer networks, focusing on the operational aspects including compression techniques, tools, frameworks, and hardware used in successful applications of intelligent edge systems.


In today’s world social media is one of the most important tool for communication that helps people to interact with each other and share their thoughts, knowledge or any other information. Some of the most popular social media websites are Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp and Wechat etc. Since, it has a large impact on people’s daily life it can be used a source for any fake or misinformation. So it is important that any information presented on social media should be evaluated for its genuineness and originality in terms of the probability of correctness and reliability to trust the information exchange. In this work we have identified the features that can be helpful in predicting whether a given Tweet is Rumor or Information. Two machine learning algorithm are executed using WEKA tool for the classification that is Decision Tree and Support Vector Machine.

This chapter presents this new emerging technology of social media and networking with a detailed discussion on: basic definitions and applications, how this technology evolved in the last few years, the need for dynamicity under data mining environment. It also provides a comprehensive design and analysis of popular social networking media and sites available for the users. A brief discussion on the data mining methodologies for implementing the variety of new applications dealing with huge/big data in data science is presented. Further, an attempt is being made in this chapter to present a new emerging perspective of data mining methodologies with its dynamicity for social networking media and sites as a new trend and needed framework for dealing with huge amount of data for its collection, analysis and interpretation for a number of real world applications. A discussion will also be provided for the current and future status of data mining of social media and networking applications.
