This work reports several issues found by the author throughout his professional career, concerning academic leadership. Topics like (i) out-of-field teaching/researching, and (ii) time management in faculty hiring or new role assignment, are addressed. Besides, the author describes which fundamental decisions he´d take if he could manage a higher education institution or academic department. The article presents the experience of using training teaching technologies in the process of future teachers’ professional training. There is considered the specificity of the training organization, which includes all types of training that affect the qualities, skills and abilities that are manifested in the process of communication with students. The main stages of the training are highlighted, which include: the stage of capacity building; the orientation phase, in the form of role play or group discussion; the stage of study and the final stage.

21<sup>st</sup> Century is an era of stress and burnout. For the past few decades it has been a burning and hot topic of discussion for researchers, to evolve stress and burnout- from a global problem to global solutions, as it affects the life of individuals in an unprecedented manner and touches them at workplace across the globe. Everybody knows what stress is all about. It has become a part of life and perhaps, to some extent, necessary at work and outside work. Some people are more productive and creative when they work under stress. But if stress is intense and continuous, then it becomes a negative phenomenon leading to physical illness and psychological disorders. Stress and burnout in today's environment has become a well documented problem. Various researches have evaluated stress and burnout in workplaces. Stress is a non-specific response of body to any demand made on it. Many researchers have identified that stress and burnout has become an integral part of our daily life due to the negative aspects of job, such as, multiple responsibilities, disciplinary problems, employee's apathy, involuntary transfers, inadequate pay and perks, less chances of career advancement and lack of administrative support etc. As a result of these, individuals are likely to suffer from stress and may experience a sense of tiredness and frustration. When prolonged stress continues and it is not effectively managed, it can even lead to symptoms of burnout, a state of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and diminished personal accomplishment in the workplace. Stress management can be done through six zones which we have discussed in detail, with a holistic approach. It includes health zone, intimate zone, family zone, work zone, social zone and spiritual zone. In this paper, an effort is made to discuss the solutions of stress and burnout in different and innovative ways through different zones which have been experienced by the author in his 20 years of professional career. Thus, stress and burnout are not a trivial problem but a major dysfunction of the 21<sup>st</sup> century, which has far reaching impact on quality and quantity of productivity. The present paper explores the concept of stress and burnout, the major differences between them, factors leading to genesis of the problem, various symptoms and how it is a serious quality concern for all professionals. Appropriate interventions for prevention and management of stress and burnout are also suggested.

For ten years, the Division of Applied Science, University of Paderborn, has gained experience with a four-year undergraduate environmental engineering programme. Up to now, more than 400 graduates have successfully entered a professional career, proving that the educational concept is accepted by the employment sector, e.g. consultants, industry and authorities. Important aspects of this concept are the combination of civil engineering - as a core engineering field - with natural environmental sciences in the basic studies, the coverage of all environmental compartments in the main studies before specialisation in one area, and a strong practical component of the curriculum both inside and outside the university.

Pre-service and in-service MPA students share a common desire for hands-on, real world instruction related to their professional career goals, leading to a pedagogic discounting of fiction as an appropriate tool for analyzing and "solving" problems. However, several factors weigh heavily in favor of using science fiction short stories and novellas in the MPA classroom setting. These include the need for interesting case scenarios exploring various administrative issues; leveling the playing field between the two types of students by de-emphasizing the use of "contemporary" cases; access to literature that explores the future shock of increasing organizational complexity; and the desirability of Rorschach type materials that facilitate discussion of. values and administrative truths. The discussion proceeds by tracing the development of the case study technique, its advantages and disadvantages in the classroom, addressing the utility of "fiction" as an educational resource, and showing how the science fiction literature has matured to the point where it can be applied in all of the major sub-fields of public administration. Several outstanding examples are detailed, and a thorough bibliography is provided.

This study is based on John L. Holland’s theory in which he defined six career personality types. Following this theory one of the aims of the study is to find out what is the percentage of individual types amongst students of pedagogical programmes. Further the research aims to discover how much are students of pedagogical programmes motivated to become teachers and what is the relation between the motivation to become a teacher and scores in scales of a Questionnaire of career choice and planning of professional career. We also attempted to identify the motivation related to gender and different pedagogical study programmes. The results show that the most motivated are students of Kindergarten teacher training and Primary school teacher training. Generally female students are more motivated than male students. From the personality types amongst students of pedagogical programmes the most common is Social type (S) and the least common is the Investigative type (I).

ArgumentThis paper analyses a process of co-construction of knowledge and its multiple forms of communication in a country of the European periphery in the early twentieth century. It focuses on Lieutenant Manuel Soares de Melo e Simas, a politically engaged Portuguese astronomer, who moved from amateur to professional during the political transition from the monarchy to the republic. Melo e Simas paralleled his professional career in continuous activity of communicating science to the public in the context of republicanism in a double way, by responding to the agenda of republicanism and by playing an active role in shaping it. He aimed at educating lay audiences in the various ways of astronomy, and he reached out to as many people as possible by exploring a multitude of communication channels, from lectures to articles in newspapers and journals. Voiced often within newly created republican institutions, the praxis and the ideas of Melo e Simas helped to mold the new republican scientific ethos. By going beyond mere emphasis on scientism and positivism, usually taken to be the defining characteristics of the new republican ethos, this paper argues that science and the specificities of its multiple forms of communication were central to the way Melo e Simas shaped the republican ideology. Furthermore, popularization of science was used to legitimize the status of professional scientists at the same time that it helped reinforce their institutional setting, still to be negotiated in the forthcoming decades through a complex process which deserves further historical analysis.
