AbstractEach species has a typical karyotype, which represents the phenotypic appearance of the somatic chromosomes including number, size, and morphology. Idiogram is a diagrammatic representation of the chromosomes showing their relative size, homologous groups and different cytogenetic landmarks. Chromosomal analysis of cytological preparations is an essential component of many investigations which involves the calculation of karyotypic parameters and generation of idiogram. Although various tools are available for karyotype analysis, here we demonstrate karyotype analysis using our recently developed tool named KaryoMeasure. KaryoMeasure is a semi-automated free and user-friendly karyotype analysis software that facilitates data collection from different digital images of the metaphase chromosome spreads and calculates a wide variety of chromosomal and karyotypic parameters along with the related standard errors. KaryoMeasure draws idiograms of both diploid and allopolyploid species into a vector-based SVG or PDF image file.

Economic output implies that underground sectors such as prostitution are taken into account. This article presents an innovative methodology to measure turnover and added value in prostitution based on a combination of observational and Internet data. The method is applied to Belgium. Turnover is broken down in transactions and price per segment. The starting point is an observation-based measure of turnover in one locational and visible segment of the market: window prostitution. Fundamental differences between segments make linear generalizations from one segment invalid. Therefore, we estimate the relative size of transactions in other segments (such as brothels or escort) with Internet data. In combination with measures of average price per transaction, a consolidated estimate of turnover in prostitution in Belgium is measured. Estimates of nonresident production are based on data on sex workers’ country of origin. Several bootstrap replications allow for robustness checks of the delta-based standard errors.

At the Swiss Light Source macromolecular crystallography (MX) beamlines the collection of serial synchrotron crystallography (SSX) diffraction data is facilitated by the recent DA+ data acquisition and analysis software developments. The SSX suite allows easy, efficient and high-throughput measurements on a large number of crystals. The fast continuous diffraction-based two-dimensional grid scan method allows initial location of microcrystals. The CY+ GUI utility enables efficient assessment of a grid scan's analysis output and subsequent collection of multiple wedges of data (so-called minisets) from automatically selected positions in a serial and automated way. The automated data processing (adp) routines adapted to the SSX data collection mode provide near real time analysis for data in both CBF and HDF5 formats. The automatic data merging (adm) is the latest extension of the DA+ data analysis software routines. It utilizes the sxdm (SSX data merging) package, which provides automatic online scaling and merging of minisets and allows identification of a minisets subset resulting in the best quality of the final merged data. The results of both adp and adm are sent to the MX MongoDB database and displayed in the web-based tracker, which provides the user with on-the-fly feedback about the experiment.

One of Indonesia's cultural heritage is woven songket. Songket is not just a piece of cloth but with a diversity of functions and motifs contained profound philosophy about human life. Hence, the songket fabric must be preserved so as not to disappear due to the influx of modern cloth products from outside. This study aims to create a digital museum that displays digital images of woven songket and provide information relating to the various motifs representing the cultural distinctiveness of local centers in  Sumatra. In addition, a digital gallery is developed to display a wide range of products derived from the local creative industries of songket cloth. The methods used for data collection are observation and interview. The development of digital museum consists of the process of formulation, planning, analysis, design, manufacture and testing of web pages, as well as evaluation.

The aim of this study was to verify the reliability and user-friendliness of some of the most popular ways of collecting information from respondents. The article provides a synthetic review of the use of various research methods and techniques, which is supplemented by results of the author’s own survey of 280 people who visited guest farms in rural areas of Mazowieckie province in 2019. The respondents found online and paper-based surveys the most user-friendly method while they rated telephone interviews as the least user-friendly. Asked to assess the reliability of data collection techniques, the respondents considered covert observation and mystery shopping to be the most reliable, while the telephone interview was regarded as the least trustworthy. The assessment of the user-friendliness and reliability of different data collection methods and techniques varied by gender, age and the level of education. It can be expected that insights from the study can help to improve the methodology of rural tourism research.

<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> Photogrammetry is a survey method that provides good quality results also by using basic photographic equipment and user-friendly, low-cost software. The advantages of the image-based modelling techniques compared with the traditional topographic tools are very significant in emergencies, when the time for the survey is limited and many buildings are involved, as usually happens in case of relevant seismic events. The goal of this study is to verify the quality of the models obtained from quick digital images acquisition, carried out under non-optimal lighting condition and no accessibility of the building. As case of study was chosen the main front of Villa Galvagnina in Moglia, a Renaissance hunting palace badly damaged by the earthquake of May 20, 2012. The modelling was performed using two different software, Agisoft Metashape and 3DFlow Zephyr. This paper presents a comparison between the results obtained using different datasets; the workflow, the difficulties encountered during the survey and the data processing methods are fully described and discussed.</p>

A user-friendly, menu driven, database program was developed to facilitate storage, retrieval, and manipulation of data associated with a sweetpotato breeding program. The database is written in FoxBASE+ for IBM and compatible personal computers. The database consists of a variety of test options with statistical capabilities for analysis of raw test data for commonly evaluated factors used to screen sweetpotato selections. The database also contains options which permit the user to query the stored data. An important feature is the summarization of test data for individual selections based on all the tests it has been entered into. Overall means, SDs and comparisons with user specified checks are listed in a printout for each factor along with morphological descriptors, parentage, and a note section. The database also assists the user in field research through recording of plot plans, data collection forms and related data query options.

Life Cycle Costing (LCC) is a tool, which can evaluate all the building-related costs over a specified period of time, as mentioned in the agreed scope. Though there are number of benefits, LCC practices of consultants in the building industry are claimed to be weak. Hence, the aim of this research is to investigate barriers in practicing LCC techniques experienced by Sri Lankan quantity surveyors. Accordingly, a mixed approached was followed in data collection through a questionnaires survey and a series of expert interviews. However, in Sri Lanka, building construction consultants are not practicing the LCC concept to a greater extent. This research identified, lack of awareness on the LCC tool by employers and practitioners, lack of knowledge on LCC and lack of previous data as the major barriers for practicing LCC techniques in local context. It was suggested that enhancing the practice of LCC through conducting various awareness programme on LCC concept, build up and maintain the proper database and introducing user friendly tools, applications, calculations methods, guidelines and regulations, will lead to avoid above mentioned barriers, which will ultimately enhance the proper practice of LCC concept in the Sri Lankan quantity surveyors.

Mouse-tracking is a sophisticated tool for measuring rapid, dynamic cognitive processes in real time, particularly in experiments investigating competition between perceptual or cognitive categories. We provide user-friendly, open-source software (https://osf.io/st2ef/) for designing and analyzing such experiments online using the Qualtrics survey platform. The software consists of a Qualtrics template with embedded Javascript and CSS along with R code to clean, parse, and analyze the data. No special programming skills are required to use this software. As we discuss, this software could be readily modified for use with other online survey platforms that allow the addition of custom Javascript. We empirically validate the provided software by benchmarking its performance on previously tested stimuli in a standard category-competition experiment with realistic crowdsourced data collection.

The Derm Imaging Center uses various light and electron microscopic techniques to determine meaningful morphologic differences in skin samples received from multiple investigators. Qualitative comparisons required laborious hand measurements, which, in time gave way to computer assisted image capture, enhancement and analysis. The ability to attach a numerical value to a morphologic observation has made quantification an expected component of the experimental results. Laboratory personnel are now spending more time in front of computers than microscopes. This fact prompted a reevaluation of our current methods resulting in a faster, user-friendly computer assisted imaging system. One software program that has become ubiquitous within the field of scientific imaging is Adobe® Photoshop®. Although a multitude of different image capture and analysis software programs are in use, a version of Photoshop® can invariably be found residing in most laboratories involved in imaging. A disadvantage of many image analysis software programs is the lack of image enhancement capability that we have grown to know and love within the Photoshop® environment.
