Identifying the level of quality of care provided for patients in mental health-care facilities as perceived by nurses and patients may help health-care providers improve the quality of care and improve patients’ outcomes. Objectives:The purpose of the study was to assess the perceptions of nurses and patients of the quality of nursing care, and explore the differences in their perceptions of quality of care in mental health-care facilities in Jordan. Methods:A cross-sectional study was conducted using two convenience samples of 123 nurses and 150 patients. The nurses completed the Karen-personnel instrument, a self-administered questionnaire; One hundred and fifty patients from several mental health-care facilities in Jordan were interviewed using the Karen-patient instrument. The interviews were structured.Results:Sixty-four percent of nurses rated the quality of psychiatric nursing care as satisfactory, and 47.6% of patients perceived the quality of nursing care as satisfactory. Male nurses, who attended courses in mental health nursing, chose to work in a psychiatric unit, committed to work in the future in a psychiatric unit, and were providing indirect care have significantly higher perception of quality of psychiatric nursing care than their counterparts. Introduction: In nursing practice nurses often show less optimal caring interactions because they have overload tasks. The purpose of this study was to describe the caring interactions between nurses and patients. Methods: This study was a descriptive study with a survey approach. The samples were 89 nurses at the inpatient wards who were recruited using purposive sampling technique. The data were collected using the Caring Nurse-Patient Interactions (CNPI-23N) tool and analyzed using a univariate analysis presented in the form of the frequency distribution. Results: The results showed that 84.3% of caring interactions between nurses and patients were good, and the remaining 18.7% were adequate. The dimension of comforting care achieved the highest value in which all respondents (100%) were at a good level. Meanwhile, the dimension of humanistic care achieved the lowest value in which 38.2% of respondents were at an adequate level. Conclusion: This study concluded that the caring interactions between nurses and patients had been well implemented. It is expected that the nursing profession and the hospital management maintain the quality of nursing care and increase the knowledge and training.

One of the biggest challenges nurses face is the need to justify the quantity and quality of staff for care delivery. For this, management instruments are available which help them to determine the staff needed in the nursing team. This descriptive study aims to evaluate the nursing workload at a specialized clinical and surgical gastroenterology unit. To collect data, the Nursing Activities Score (NAS) was used during 30 consecutive days, with 1080 comments, obtained from the records of 149 patients. The mean NAS score was 34.9% and, considering that each point of NAS corresponds to 0.24 hour, on the average, 8.4 hours of nursing care were required within 24 hours. This means that this profile is of patients who demand intermediate and semi-intensive care, which suggests that the NAS study can be used to evaluate the workload of nurses at that unit.
