The second screen has become a new resource for accessing information in addition to what you can see on television. This allows for an enhanced viewing experience through the generation of new services, apps, and changes in the production of content. Sporting events, especially large ones that are broadcast live, have especially developed this innovation. This chapter examines the distinctive features that the second screen contributes to televised sporting events, considering the type of production as well as the effects that are generated in the reception of the content and the alteration to the way the treatment the audiovisual content may receive. To achieve this, real cases from the Spanish context are studied, such as two major cycling events: La Vuelta 2017 (rtve.es) and the Tour de France 2019 (rtve.es and Eurosport Player App).

In this essay Edward Berman explores the way in which the relationship between United States foreign policy and the major American foundations has helped to shape African educational policy since 1945. Berman contends that the foundations, in particular Ford, Rockefeller, and the Carnegie Corporation, have directed their support at areas of political or economic importance to American corporate interests—to the possible detriment of the needs of the developing nations themselves.

Olympic event zones are characterised as being intensely formally regulated during live staging periods, producing exclusionary environments blamed for side-lining host community interests. Yet, our findings contradict what scholars perceive to be inflexible formal regulations, and, the regulator’s ability to take informal action. By interviewing and drawing on the experience of 17 regulators during London 2012 we identify how regulators simultaneously oscillate between modes of regulatory formality and informality, straddling what is referred to as the ‘formality-informality span’. Our application and theorisation of these concepts critiques existing explanations of how regulation is enacted in mega-sporting events, providing new insights into the way organisers balance regulatory demands and potentially opening up new emancipatory policies and more equitable outcomes for host communities.

Developing nations have yet to enter the projected main phase of their population explosion. Between 1950 and 1985 they increased their numbers by 1,980 million people, whereas between 1985 and 2020 the increase is projected to be 2,783 millions. If we exclude China from the reckoning, on the grounds of that country being well on the way to a zero-growth population, the figures are 1,486 millions and 2,415 millions.

AbstractIn this paper I shall present ways in which professional astronomers in developing nations can aid basic education by using a few things that have been done in Mexico.Recently the compulsory education in Mexico was increased from 6 to 12 years. An optional subject on astronomy was included in high school; so there are several ways in which one can contribute to the national education system.I shall give a practical example on ways to teach and mention the importance of magazines and books dedicated to teachers. I will also address the way we have implemented brief courses for educators and organized conferences for science teachers. It is important to emphasize that we must find ways to train people in a more effective way.
