This essay interrogates what can be described as Yorùbá population philosophy, within the context of Yorùbá existential thought, and the effects it has on Nigeria’s population explosion. The essay explores the seemingly contradictory proverbs that both vindicate and vilify the act of giving birth to many children. The essay further connects this traditional Yorùbá wisdom to contemporary procreative practices of Yorùbá Christians and Muslims, and their interpretations of scriptural injunction to be fruitful and multiply. I then argue that if Nigeria’s lackluster policy on population is taken into consideration, the implications of the Yorùbá, as well as other ethnic groups’, population philosophy will not only aggravate the Nigerian postcolonial predicament, but will eventually explode the population time bomb already ticking in Nigeria. The essay recommends that given the existential complexities attached to giving birth to a child, together with the demographic exigencies on Nigeria’s national predicament, marriage ought to be strictly regulated and limited to those with the capacity for sustainability.

As we observe the World Population Day on 11th July, the current population stands at roughly 7.9 billion in 2021, with India bagging the second place at 1.39 billion. The net growth rate stands at 1.1% or 83 million per year and the projected world population by 2050 is estimated to be 9.7 billion. These figures are alarming to us-the millennials, who grew up writing ominous essays on ‘population explosion’ at school. Governments across the world, historically Romania to more recently China, have adopted population policies to control the rate of population growth to cater to their advantage-either economically or politically. Some of them directly against reproductive rights- to decide freely and responsibly the number, spacing and timing of their children and to be able to do so without discrimination, coercion and violence.

Contraception is essentially evolving into a need of the hour due to rampant population explosion as well as due to the health of the mother. In certain sections of the society, more so in the rural community, the approach towards contraceptive usage is low on account of apprehensions, societal issues or plain ignorance. The present study was designed to understand the factors that determine contraceptive usage in such a community in rural rajasthan. It was found that factors such as family type, earlier child and socio-economic factors affect the choice of contraceptive usage. The use of counselling methods can help in overcoming the initial apprehensions that are faced by the women. Secondly an awareness created in the mind of the husband and relatives can aid in providing a well balanced decision on contraception as in rural set ups, the decision does not solely rest on the female. Keywords: Attitudes, Contraception, Post-partum

Water is one of the most important resources among other natural resources. It plays a vital role in the world of living organism in our day to day life whether it may be drinking or non-drinking. Population explosion along with urbanization and industrialization make the situation difficult, especially in using usable water indiscriminately. The ways in which usable water wasted are drinking, domestic purpose, irrigation, industry etc. Although the amount of usable water is limited we have to be cautious in preserving water and take necessary steps to conserve water. Some of the instances have been depicted in this regard which are as follows.

Conventional agriculture and aquaculture present the unwelcome situation of great extents of consumption in both land  and  water  resources.  The  threat  of pollution of water bodies also need  to  be  taken  into account. The urbanization policies and population explosion with rapid migration from rural areas makes the concept of aquaponics reuse of ecological crop rising and reusing methods  essential. This   technology   coalesces   recirculation of water used in aquaculture and hydroponics for crop supplement and water recycle; reduction of pollution and enhancement of efficiency and yield. Hydroponics and aquaculture is proposed in this paper on a combinatory  solution  for  better  agriculture  practice.  Intelligent monitoring of water quality and nutrient circulation can be abstracted, tabulated and summarized. This paper popularizes the implementation of IoT in aquaponics.

The Sailfin Catfish is one of the invasive fish species. The occurrence of sailfin catfish population explosion in the waters of Lake Sidenreng which disturbs gill net fishermen is one of the main problems that have not been found to solve it. Due to its impact on catch production, catch effectiveness and sustainability of aquatic biodiversity, this research was carried out with the aim of knowing the effect of sailfin catfish population explosion on gill net fishermen's income. This research was conducted for three months, namely from June to August 2020 in Wette'e Village and in the Village of Teteaji Kab. Sidenreng Rappang. The average income of gill-net fishermen before the sailfin catfish population explosion tended to be higher than that of the fishermen after the sailfin catfish population explosion occurred. The highest income of fishermen before the Sailfin catfish population explosion was Rp. 550,000 with the lowest income of Rp. 50,000, while the highest income of fishermen after the sailfin catfish population explosion was Rp. 200,000 with the lowest income of Rp. 15,000. Meanwhile, based on the results of the analysis of the Mann Whitney test, the calculated z value of -1.878 and the Asympe sig (2 tailed) value of 0.060 The significance probability value is lower than ɑ = 0.05. This means that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted so that it can be concluded that the sailfin catfish population explosion had an effect on fishermen's income before the sailfin catfish population explosion and after the sailfin catfish population explosion occurred.

Abstract In early twentieth-century Germany a population explosion in its big cities created a housing crisis. A widespread and heavily medialized debate prompted a search for solutions and triggered a rhetoric of the last dwelling. From large communal estates to subsistence-level dwellings, a new type of housing was propagated in newspapers, magazines, exhibitions, films, guidebooks, and advertisements. Siegfried Kracauer, architect, journalist, and author, also became engaged in this debate, willfully reinterpreting New Objectivity’s aesthetics of things (Dingästhetik) both in architectural critiques for the Frankfurter Zeitung and in his novel Ginster. This article analyzes Kracauer’s critical contribution to the modernist housing debate in the Weimar Republic.

This chapter shows that rates of crime and arrest cannot explain the huge increase in prison population but that the extreme growth in prison admissions indicates that behavior of local criminal justice agencies, prosecutors, and courts was the dynamic force that accounts for most of the prison population explosion.
