Purpose This paper aims to investigate the corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives adopted by Chinese firms during the outbreak of COVID-19. Facing this unknown, unexpected and devastating disease, Chinese corporations demonstrated their CSR in different approaches. The purpose of this paper is to explore how CSR influences the decisions of the corporations that respond to a severe incident and how corporations can achieve their mission or strategic objectives by responding to a serious incident. Design/methodology/approach Based on secondary data and thematic analysis, this paper examines six Chinese corporations which are the leading firms in their respective industries. Findings This paper finds that firms adopted a mixed approach to conducting their CSR initiatives, including altruistic, strategic and citizenship CSR initiatives. This paper also confirms that strategic CSR initiatives were in line with the five dimensions of strategic CSR including centrality, specificity, proactivity, visibility and voluntarism. In addition, this paper also shows that a company could create its competitive advantage by carrying out CSR initiatives that are able to strengthen its value chain activities or the competitive context. This is based on the partnership built by the firms with their stakeholders to recognize the shared value. Practical implications This paper shows the implication that business leaders should understood the role of a business in society and the importance of stakeholders’ expectations. The underlying philosophy is that CSR could strengthen the resilience of society; business organizations need to operate in a healthy society. Originality/value This paper provides insights of Chinese corporations responding to a severe social incident. It highlights the strategic perspective of CSR initiatives and the linkage between CSR activities and a firm’s competitive advantage.

The subject of the study is a retrospective of the legal norms formation. Under these norms the prosecutor will be able to govern the issues of ensuring the legitimate interests of the state, society, business entities and the rights of citizens in resolving disputes in the field of economic activity. Chronological framework of research includes the period from the establishment of prosecutor's office in 1722 up to the collapse of USSR in 1991. The relevant legislation is analyzed. The author examines the scope of prosecutor powers in this sphere at different stages of formation and development of prosecution, and reveals the problems of determining the prosecutor's office place in the system of existing at that time bodies of state power. It is concluded that the prosecution authorities, since their creation in Russia and up to the present stage of development, taking a greater or lesser degree of participation in the resolution of disputes in the sphere of economic activity, played a significant role in the protection of exclusively state interests. The interests of society, business entities and citizens in the sphere of economic activity if there is a dispute were considered only through the prism of such interests. The hierarchy of interests of participants of economic activity in dispute resolution was unbalanced and built without taking into account the interests of all participants of economic relations.

Abstract: The development of post-industrial society initiates profound economic, technological and cultural change in the way of life of all mankind. The revolutionary breakthroughs in the field of new technologies such as biotechnology and information technology are reflected in all spheres of human activity, directly affecting the human security. The article analyzes the consequences of widespread usage biotechnology and information technology in the foreign policy practice on the basis of the human security theory. The detailed description of the main directions of the use of biometric technology in the foreign policy and consular practices is provided, the challenges and threats to information security associated with biometrics are analyzed, arising from widespread biotechnology are the main challenges and threats to as well as human security threats arising at the present stage of development and application of these technologies. Human security threats associated with the use of biotechnology are placed in the broader context of global trends in scientific and technological development. The recommendations are formulated in the field of foreign policy and international cooperation, which would neutralize new threats to international and personal safety arising at the present stage of development of biotechnology. The authors conclude that in order to ensure ethical regulation of new technologies that address issues of human security, it is necessary to organize multi-stakeholder partnerships at national and international level with the participation of states, representatives of civil society, business and the research community.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to describe and discuss how and to what extent creative dialogue processes can have an impact on regional political planning processes in Norway. Politicians at Nordland County invited representatives from six different regions in Nordland to participate in café dialogues. Design/methodology/approach – The empirical material is collected from café-dialogues in Northern Norway in which representatives from civil society, business organizations, local government, and NGOs participated. The data processing is based on triangulation of hermeneutic interpretation, frequencies, and factor analysis. Findings – The findings indicate that most people want a “greener” future; this can be described as sustainable societies based on ecological production, distribution, consumption, and redistribution. People take on a more radical position in their ideas about the future than most politicians. The factor analysis grouped the participants into the following categories; “Ecological economics”, “Small is beautiful”, “Entrepreneurs”, and “Growth and control”. A large number of the participants are categorized either as “Circulation economics” or “Small is beautiful”. Practical implications – To solve the challenges of modern society politicians can instigate more radical solutions than they are in the habit of doing. The participants in the café dialogues describe fundamental changes in order to attain viable local societies per 2030. Originality/value – In this paper the authors demonstrate that cultural creatives in the USA give a relevant context for interpreting attitudes to change in small societies in Northern Norway.

The article considers modern aspects of the use, accounting and taxation of business cards, which are currently an integral part of communication and exchange of contacts in the business world. In particular, the essence of the concept of “business card” is studied, which is a carrier of information not only about the person-owner, but usually also contains information about the activities of the enterprise where its owner works. The classification of business cards into personal, business and corporate depending on their application and the information presented on them is systematized. Particular attention is paid to business cards, which are also a tool for advertising, as well as corporate, because, when they are distributed is the primary information to society, business partners about the company (company) and its activities. The authors substantiate why business cards are not an “additional benefit”, because they are issued to employees not for his personal purposes, but to achieve business goals of the employer: expanding customer base, increasing sales, making a profit, etc., in addition, companies do not give them in the property, but only oblige employees to use such cards during contacts with various participants in economic activity. Accordingly, the influence of such a decision on the process of taxation of the manufacture of this type of business cards is shown. The peculiarities of displaying information on the movement of business cards in the account, which requires their identification as “assets”, or rather – “stocks”, because they fully meet the criteria for defining these terms, presented in the legislation of Ukraine. Business cards are a controlled material resource of the enterprise, in which in the past certain funds or other stocks are invested, and in the future it is expected to receive from their distribution economic effect – benefit, it is an asset of the enterprise. Analytical accounts are offered to detail information on the cost of self-made or purchased business cards, which will facilitate the formation of clear management reports, will provide specific information for internal analysis. The sequence of reflection in the accounting of expenses at the time of transfer (write-off from the balance) of business cards depending on the center of responsibility with the use of certain primary documents is given.

Developing a new market from a country to another is a challenge for any manager. This study extends to research the new business model of 7-ELEVEn (7-11) that helps 7-11 adapt to different national conditions, grow customer demand and achieve great success in Japan. In this article, mixed methods including quantitative and qualitative study are used to discuss this topic. The business model of 7-11 in the both United States and Japan are investigated, aiming to find the reasons for its success in Japan. From this paper, it can be found that one of the main strategies that 7-11 makes is to develop their core competitiveness includes logistics operation and diversified service, which let them influence the society. Business model canvases in America and Japan are presented in this article, as well. As a result, not only the strategies of 711 but also the spirit of meeting the needs of customers and improving strategy with the trends should be learned by other countries.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to give an up-to-date assessment of key topics and methods discussed in the current literature on responsible entrepreneurship. In the past years, sustainable development itself has become a more popular and important topic in the academic literature and hence the field of sustainable entrepreneurship has become a greater topic of interest and opportunity for solution. Therefore, a systematic literature review is conducted to assess new contributions to the field and its potential for the future of sustainable development, with a focus on responsible innovation.Design/methodology/approachSystematic, evidence-informed literature review following Tranfieldet al.(2003).FindingsBased on a conceptual literature review, five streams of research that responsible entrepreneurs distinguish from purely for-profit entrepreneurs are identified and discussed: walking the line between profit creation and value creation for society; business models of responsible entrepreneurs; their role in transforming society; getting ready to innovate responsibly; and the role of market incentives to foster sustainable business practices.Originality/valueThe structured literature review allows to identify future research paths. In detail, ideas as regards the management of upcoming tensions when trying to combine profit creation and value creation for society, and finally, the way innovation processes need to be rethought when innovating responsibly are discussed and outlined.

Theoretical and methodological aspects of research of consumption safety as the ability of the state, society and business to create the preconditions for conscious satisfaction of human needs for self-reproduction to protect the health of the nation and the environment as imperatives for future development are developed. It is proposed to consider the process of consumption securing from the standpoint of harmonizing the interests of society, business and government in forming the basis for sustainable consumption and production in a strategic perspective. The chaos of self-organization processes in the consumer market, as well as the need to combine institutional and market mechanisms in solving the problem of consumption security strengthening in the process of European integration of Ukraine are shown. Systemic means of consumption securing on the basis of harmonization of society, business and the state economic interests with use of the multi-agent approach are developed. Accordingly, a multi-agent model is proposed to identify participants (agents) in the consumption securing process, to formalize the elements, institutional norms, parameters and limitations of their interaction. By building an intelligent map of consumption security, the institutional preconditions, participants of the process of consumption securing, the system of their interests, time parameters of interaction, basic processes, threats and related areas of consumption safety are established. The necessity of using the market mechanism of harmonization of interests of consumption safety subjects (person, society, public authorities and local governments, enterprises-manufacturers, public associations, international organizations, research establishments, etc.) by coordination of the price within the ratio of supply and demand for safe goods (services) with maximizing the convergence of interests as a condition for achieving an equilibrium state of the system is proved.
