Abstract The "Evidence Based Practice" requires professionals to critically assess the results of psychological research. However, incorrect interpretations of p values of probability are abundant and repetitive. These misconceptions affect professional decisions and compromise the quality of interventions and the accumulation of a valid scientific knowledge. Identifying the types of fallacies that underlying statistical decisions is fundamental for approaching and planning statistical education strategies designed to intervene in incorrect interpretations. Therefore, the aim of this study is to analyze the interpretation of p value among college students of psychology and academic psychologist. The sample was composed of 161 participants (43 academic and 118 students). The mean number of years as academic was 16.7 (SD = 10.07). The mean age of college students was 21.59 years (SD = 1.3). The findings suggest that college students and academic do not know the correct interpretation of p values. The fallacy of the inverse probability presents major problems of comprehension. In addition, statistical significance and practical significance or clinical are confused. There is a need for statistical education and statistical re-education.

BACKGROUND:The aim of this study was to evaluate the information quality of YouTube videos on hallux valgus. METHODS:A YouTube search was performed using the keyword 'hallux valgus' to determine the first 300 videos related to hallux valgus. A total of 54 videos met our inclusion criteria and evaluated for information quality by using DISCERN, Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) and hallux valgus information assessment (HAVIA) scores. Number of views, time since the upload date, view rate, number of comments, number of likes, number of dislikes, video power index (VPI) values were calculated to determine video popularity. Video length (sec), video source and video content were also noted. The relation between information quality and these factors were statistically evaluated. RESULTS:The mean DISCERN score was 30.35{plus minus}11.56 (poor quality) (14-64), the mean JAMA score was 2.28{plus minus}0.96 (1-4), and the mean HAVIA score was 3.63{plus minus}2.42 (moderate quality) (0.5-8.5). Although videos uploaded by physicians had higher mean DISCERN, JAMA, and HAVIA scores than videos uploaded by non-physicians, the difference was not statistically significant. Additionally, view rates and VPI values were higher for videos uploaded by health channels, but the difference did not reach statistical significance. A statistically significant positive correlation was found between video length and DISCERN (r= 0.294, p= 0.028), and HAVIA scores (r= 0.326, p= 0.015). CONCLUSIONS:This present study demonstrated that the quality of information available on YouTube videos about hallux valgus was low and insufficient. Videos containing accurate information from reliable sources are needed to educate patients on hallux valgus, especially in less frequently mentioned topics such as postoperative complications and healing period.

Objective: Circulating plasma protein profiling may aid in the identification of cerebrovascular disease signatures. This study aimed to identify circulating angiogenic and inflammatory biomarkers that may serve as biomarkers to differentiate sporadic brain arteriovenous malformation (bAVM) patients from other conditions with brain AVMs, including hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) patients. Methods: The Quantibody Human Angiogenesis Array 1000 (Raybiotech) is an ELISA multiplex panel that was used to assess the levels of 60 proteins related to angiogenesis and inflammation in heparin plasma samples from 13 sporadic unruptured bAVM patients (69% male, mean age 51 years) and 37 patients with HHT (40% male, mean age 47 years, n=19 (51%) with bAVM). The Quantibody Q-Analyzer tool was used to calculate biomarker concentrations based on the standard curve for each marker and log-transformed marker levels were evaluated for associations between disease states using a multivariable interval regression model adjusted for age, sex, ethnicity and collection site. Statistical significance was based on Bonferroni correction for multiple testing of 60 biomarkers (P< 8.3x10 - 4 ). Results: Circulating levels of two plasma proteins differed significantly between sporadic bAVM and HHT patients: PDGF-BB (P=2.6x10 -4 , PI= 3.37, 95% CI:1.76-6.46) and CCL5 (P=6.0x10 -6 , PI=3.50, 95% CI=2.04-6.03). When considering markers with a nominal p-value of less than 0.01, MMP1 and angiostatin levels also differed between patients with sporadic bAVM and HHT. Markers with nominal p-values less than 0.05 when comparing sporadic brain AVM and HHT patients also included angiostatin, IL2, VEGF, GRO, CXCL16, ITAC, and TGFB3. Among HHT patients, the circulating levels of UPAR and IL6 were elevated in patients with documented bAVMs when considering markers with nominal p-values less than 0.05. Conclusions: This study identified differential expression of two promising plasma biomarkers that differentiate sporadic bAVMs from patients with HHT. Furthermore, this study allowed us to evaluate markers that are associated with the presence of bAVMs in HHT patients, which may offer insight into mechanisms underlying bAVM pathophysiology.

Aim: To evaluate the priority of coronary angiography (CAG) and therapeutic hypothermia therapy (TH) after return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) in patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). Patients and Methods: SOS-KANTO 2012 study is a prospective, multicenter (69 emergency hospitals) and observational study and includes 16,452 patients with OHCA. Among the cases with ROSC in that study, we intended for patients treated with both CAG and TH within 24 hours after arrival. Those patients were divided into two groups; patients in whom TH was firstly performed (TH group), and the others in whom CAG was firstly done (CAG group). We statistically compared the prognosis between the two groups. SPSS Statistics 22 (IBM, Tokyo, Japan) was used for the statistical analysis. Statistical significance was assumed to be present at a p value of less than 0.05. Result: 233 patients were applied in this study. There were 86 patients in the TH group (M/F: 74/12, mean age; 60.0±15.2 y/o) and 147 in the CAG group (M/F: 126/21, mean age: 63.4±11.1 y/o) respectively, and no significant differences were found in the mean age and M/F ratio between the two groups. The overall performance categories (OPC) one month after ROSC in the both groups were as follows; in the TH group, OPC1: 21 (24.4%), OPC2: 3 (3.5%), OPC3: 7 (8.1%), OPC4: 8 (9.3%), OPC5: 43 (50.0%), unknown: 4 (4.7%), and in the CAG group, OPC1: 38 (25.9%), OPC2: 13 (8.8%), OPC3: 15 (10.2%), OPC4: 18 (12.2%), OPC5: 57 (38.8%), unknown: 6 (4.1%). There were no significant differences in the prognosis one month after ROSC between the two groups. Conclusion: The results which of TH and CAG you give priority to over do not affect the prognosis in patients with OHCA.

Objective: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic condition that requires consistent medical care to help control glycemic indices. Diabetes self-management is found to be essential for optimal glycemic control. This study aimed to investigate the predictors of diabetes self-management in adult with T2DM. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted. A purposive sample of 142 adults with T2DM attended an outpatient endocrine clinic in an academic hospital in Ilam, Iran was invited to participate in this study from September to October 2016. The data were collected using a combination of validated questionnaires and the blood sample. IBM SPSS software version 22 used to conduct the analysis. Hierarchical linear regression analysis with the stepwise method was used to explore the predictors of diabetes self-management. Results: The mean age of participants was 54.2 ± (11.8) years. The mean duration of diabetes was 8.9 ± (7.4). Hierarchical linear regression analysis determined that self-management behaviors had positive relationship with efficacy expectation (B= 0.445, P-value< 0.01), quality of life (B= 0.222, P-value= 0.02), and has a negative relationship with HbA1c (B= -0.194, P-value= 0.01). Conclusion: The result of our study indicate that better diabetes self-management behaviors can be predicted by higher efficacy expectation, the better quality of life and lower HbA1c levels. Future interventions should focus on enhancing efficacy expectation, quality of life and optimizing glycemic control to improve self-management of diabetes.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the fatty acid composition of meat and subcutaneous fat, carcass traits and meat quality of Nellore steers fed diets supplemented with various lipid sources. Forty-five young bulls, with average bodyweight of 441 ± 30 kg, were allotted into 10 paddocks, with five treatments, each consisting of two paddocks. The bulls were randomly assigned into one of the following five treatments, which consisted of four lipid sources: palm oil (PO), linseed oil, rumen protected fat (soybean-based oil), whole soybean, and a control (without additional fat). Trial duration was 120 days, which included 30 days of adaptation. Supplements were offered daily at 10 g/kg bodyweight per day. Dietary supplements for providing additional fat were formulated to consist of 10% ether extract. Lipid sources did not significantly affect the average daily gain (P = 0.797) or dressing percentage (P = 0.663). Supplementation with PO increased the concentrations of lauric acid (P = 0.036) and myristic acid (P < 0.001) in the muscle and subcutaneous fat. Animals supplemented with linseed oil had significantly higher concentrations of conjugated linolenic acid in the meat (P = 0.036) and fat (P = 0.049) than did control animals. In the present study, the use of various lipid sources in dietary supplements of grazing cattle during finishing period did not affect carcass traits or physical attributes of beef. This absence of statistical significance may be related to the minimum number of repeat paddocks (2) per treatment. Thus, differences that can have a practical significance were not evidenced by statistical analysis. The inclusion of PO and protected fatty acids derived from soybean oil (rumen-protected fat) is not recommended as a method to improve the lipid profile of meat and subcutaneous fat of Nellore cattle.

Abstract Study question If the elective single-blastocyst transfer (eSBT) strategy can be applied to women aged 36 or older. Summary answer In women ≥36 years old with at least two blastocysts, eSBT increased cumulative livebirth rate (LBR) while minimizing twins compared with double blastocyst transfer (DBT). What is known already: In young women with a good prognosis, eSBT policy is an accepted strategy to maintain LBR while decreasing multiple gestation. However, in many areas of the world DBT is still applied in older women. Study design, size, duration We performed a retrospective cohort study of 429 women aged ≥36 years or older who received IVF ovarian stimulation cycles between Jan 2015 and Oct 2018 and who had at least two blastocysts. Women were followed up until Oct 2020 for their fertility outcomes including cumulative live birth and multiple pregnancies. The study was performed at the Northwest Women and Children’s Hospital, Xi’an, China. Participants/materials, setting, methods Out of 429 women, 240 underwent a fresh cycle of eSBT and 189 DBT. The subsequent frozen-thawed embryo transfer cycles were a combination of single- and double- blastocyst transfers, more commonly the latter. Analysis was stratified for patients in age groups 36–37, 38–39 and ≥40 and quality of the blastocyst transferred, as graded by morphological examination. Outcomes were the LBR in the fresh cycle, cumulative LBR and multiple rate after fresh and frozen embryo transfers. Main results and the role of chance The cumulative LBR was 74.2% (178/240) for eSBT versus 63.0% (119/189) for DBT (OR = 1.69, 95%CI 1.12–2.56), irrespective of female age. The multiple rate was 9% (16/178) after eSBT versus 29.4% (35/119) after DBT (P- value < .001). The total number of children born was 194 after eSBT versus 154 after DBT. Stratified by female age, the cumulative LBRs in women aged 36–37 (78.9 vs 70.5%), 38–39 (68.9 and 61.1%) and ≥ 40 years (59.3 and 47.5%), were higher after eSBT compared with DBT, however, the differences did not reach statistical significance in each subgroups. LBRs in the fresh cycles were comparable for patients with eSBT compared with DBT (52.1% vs. 52.4%, OR = 0.99, 95%CI 0.68–1.45). In women < 40 years, DBT resulted in a small non-significant increase in LBR in the fresh transfer (63.2% vs. 61.2%, 95%CI=0.64–1.85, 36–37 years; 48.1% vs. 41.0%, 95%CI=0.64–2.80, 38–39 years) at the expense of a marked increase in twinning rate (0–5.4% vs. 31.7–34.6%). For women ≥40 years, no significant differences were observed in the LBR (37.0% vs 45%, 95%CI 0.47–4.07) or twinning rate (0 vs 7.7%) between eSBT and DBT group. The findings persisted with and without accounting for quality of the blastocyst transferred. Limitations, reasons for caution This study is limited by its observational character. Wider implications of the findings: In women ≥36 years with two blastocysts, eSBT should be the preferred treatment which maximizes the cumulative LBR for a decrease in the rate of multiple pregnancies.
