Incremental sheet-forming (ISF) processes have been developed rapidly in the past two decades. Its high flexibility and easy operability have a significant appeal for industrial applications, and substantial progress has been made in fundamental understanding and demonstration of practical implementation. However, there are a number of obstacles including achievable accuracy and instability in material deformation, which are considered as a main contributing factor for preventing the ISF process to be widely used in industry. As a variant of the general ISF process, double-sided incremental forming (DSIF) uses an additional supporting tool in the opposite side of the workpiece, maintains the flexibility, and at the same time improves the material deformation stability and reduces material thinning. In recent years, there has been increased research interest in looking into DSIF-specific material deformation mechanisms and investigation. This paper aims to provide a technical review of the DSIF process as benchmarked with single-point incremental forming (SPIF). It starts with a brief overview of the current state of the art of both SPIF and DSIF. This is followed by a comparative study between SPIF and DSIF with the key research challenges identified. This leads to a recommendation of future directions for DSIF focused research.

Narcissism is of great interest to behavioral scientists and the lay public. Research across the last 20 years has led to substantial progress in the conceptualization, measurement, and study of narcissism. The present paper reviews the current state of the field, identifying recent advances and outlining future directions. Advances include hierarchical conceptualizations of narcissism across one (narcissism), two (grandiose vs. vulnerable narcissism), and three factor levels (agentic extraversion, antagonism, narcissistic neuroticism), the development of measures to assess the components of narcissism, clarification of the relations between narcissism and self-esteem, an understanding of the behavioral and motivational dynamics underlying narcissistic actions and social outcomes, and insight regarding potential fluctuations between narcissistic states. Future directions point in general to increased research using the lower levels of the narcissism hierarchy, especially the three-factor level. At this level, more research is required on the etiology, heritability, stability, and centrality of the three components.

One of the major drawbacks of single-point incremental forming process for sheet metal (SPIF) consists in the poor geometrical accuracy of formed parts. This limits the use of SPIF technology and has pushed the development of alternative incremental processes—such as the two-points incremental forming—aimed at improving the forming accuracy. However, these processes require the use of supporting dies and they therefore reduce the competitive advantage of SPIF process. The possibility to compensate for part springback, in order to have the part geometry as close as possible to the nominal one, represents one of the major challenges to make SPIF process suitable for real industrial applications. However, any possible approach in springback compensation must pass through the comprehension of the springback phenomenon. The objective of the paper is to analyze the springback of parts made by SPIF, by evaluating the influence that elastic recovery before and after the part unclamping has on the final part geometry. A SPIF experimental campaign was carried out on a truncated pyramid as case study, by varying both the part geometrical parameters (the wall angle and the height), and the process parameters (the tool step-down size and the feed rate). The material used in this study was the duplex steel DP600 provided in 0.8 mm thick sheets. After forming—but before unclamping—the part geometry was measured by means of of an electronic touch probe mounted on the machine tool-holder, in order to investigate the elastic recovery due to the successive tool laps. After unclamping, the part geometry was measured on a coordinate measuring machine. The influence of geometrical and process parameters was analyzed and the contribution of elastic recovery before and after the part unclamping was assessed.

The single point incremental forming (SPIF) is a sheet metal forming process with high flexibility on manufacture of each individual workpiece. However, it usually requires more processing time than a conventional forming method and is important to process with appropriate parameters. This study is to investigate the influence of different temperatures on continuing secondary forming of Ti Gr2 sheet, employed the stress relieving and annealing temperature after primary forming. The deformed parts were examined on the following criteria; internal contact surface roughness, microhardness and sectional microstructure. Stress relieving and annealing temperatures of 580°C and 780°C were applied to the formed parts prior to their secondary forming. It is found that the surface roughness increased from Ra 2.104 μm and 2.498 μm to Ra 2.55 μm and 3.18 μm respectively after secondary forming. The formability of 25 mm radius test specimens remained at 12 mm depth with limited obvious change.

We present a survey of recent work on robot manipulation and sensing of deformable objects, a field with relevant applications in diverse industries such as medicine (e.g. surgical assistance), food handling, manufacturing, and domestic chores (e.g. folding clothes). We classify the reviewed approaches into four categories based on the type of object they manipulate. Furthermore, within this object classification, we divide the approaches based on the particular task they perform on the deformable object. Finally, we conclude this survey with a discussion of the current state-of-the-art approaches and propose future directions within the proposed classification.

Stimuli-responsive polymeric materials have attracted significant attentions in a variety of high-value-added and industrial applications during the past decade. Among various stimuli, light is of particular interest as a stimulus due to its unique advantages such as precisely spatiotemporal control, mild conditions, ease of use, and tunability. In recent years, a lot of effort toward synthesis of biocompatible and biodegradable polypeptide has resulted in many examples of photo-responsive nanoparticles. Depending on the specific photochemistry, those polypeptide derived nano-assemblies are capable of crosslinking, disassembling, or morphing into other shapes upon light irradiation. In this mini-review, we aim to assess the current state of photo-responsive polypeptide based nanomaterials. First, those “smart” nanomaterials will be categorized by their photo-triggered events (i.e., crosslinking, degradation, and isomerization) which are inherently governed by photo-sensitive functionalities including o-nitrobenzyl, coumarin, azobenzene, cinnamyl, and spiropyran. In addition, the properties and applications of those polypeptide nanomaterials will be highlighted as well. Finally, the current challenges and future directions of this subject will be evaluated.

Single point incremental forming is a major process in a number of different industrial applications. Blank are easily found around us from furniture and household equipment to industrial machinery and equipment. To ensure high-quality sheet metal, it is vital to consider the influence of parameters. Accordingly, in this paper, the parameters affecting product quality are analyzed. Through the testing process, we obtain the parameters that help the product achieve high quality in terms of mechanics, which is an important first step for the process of developing the technology.

Abstract The freight transport sector is a low profit and high competition business and therefore has less ability to invest in research and development in the field of autonomous vehicles (AV) than the private car industry. There are already different levels of automation technologies in the transport industry, but most of these are serving niche demands and answers have yet to be found about whether it would be worthwhile to industrialise these technologies. New innovations from different fields are constantly changing the freight traffic industry but these are less disruptive than on other markets. The aim of this article is to show the current state of development of freight traffic with regards to AVs and analyse which future directions of development might be viable. The level of automation is very different in the case of different transport modes and most probably the technology will favour road transport over other, less environmentally harmful traffic modes.

In this paper the Magnetic Abrasive Finishing (MAF) was utilized after Single Point Incremental Forming (SPIF) process as a combined finishing process. Firstly, the Single Point Incremental forming was form the truncated cone made from low carbon steel (1008-AISI) based on Z-level tool path then the magnetic abrasive finishing process was applied on the surface of the formed product. Box-Behnken design of experiment in Minitab 17 software was used in this study. The influences of different parameters (feed rate, machining step size, coil current and spindle speed) on change in Micro-Vickers hardness were studied. The maximum and minimum change in Micro-Vickers hardness that achieved from all the experiments were (40.4 and 1.1) respectively. The contribution percent of (feed rate, machining step size, coil current and spindle speed) were (7.1, 18.068, 17.376 and 37.894) % respectively. After MAF process all the micro surface cracks that generated on the workpiece surface was completely removed from the surface.
