Motion Capture of the Selective Hand Picking Movements As the Basis for the Design of Mechanically Assisted Picking Tools in Coffee Plantations in Colombia

Besides oil, coffee is one of the most traded commodities worldwide. Colombia is known as the producer of the highest quality coffee in the world, thanks to its smooth taste and aroma. One of the key elements that are responsible for the quality of Colombian coffee is its harvesting method, in which it is enforced that only mature fruits are harvested. Given the terrain conditions in which coffee trees grow, the preferred harvesting method in Colombia is selective hand picking, in which each coffee grain is individually teared off from the branch that is attached to. This work focuses on the analysis of the motion of a human hand performing the action of manual selective coffee harvesting. The analysis is based on the data collected from a custom made motion capture system, which consists of a glove capable of sensing the angular movement of the joints, and accelerations at the tip of the fingers, by means of a set of flex sensors and accelerometers, respectively. The methods followed in this investigation include the study of the biomechanics of the hand, as applied to the motion of hand picking of coffee, which proved to be fundamental for the analysis of the experimentally measured data. After processing the experimental data, the patterns of movement done by a human coffee harvester can be simulated and replicated, which allows identifying trajectories that a good harvester follows, as compared to other harvesters, which collect smaller amounts of grains during the same period of time. After having parameterized the motion of efficient selective hand picking, the results from this investigation serve as the basis for the design and optimization of an electromechanical tool to assist in the process of coffee harvesting, which minimizes the amount of green beans removed from the branches of the coffee trees.

Green beans cultivation technology using mice pets control has been implemented in the Gluranploso village, Benjeng Gresik. The implementation of the technology performed for 2.5 months from August to October 2017. The purpose of the implementation is aimed to reduce the dependence of farmers on the use of chemical pesticides so that the farmers are aware of the negative impact of chemical pesticides. Assessing the impact of the utilization of Bintaro fruit and fruit extracts to explore ways of making Bintaro as a natural biopesticide to overcome rat attack on green bean plants in the Gluranploso village. Pest control mice can reduce the rate of loss of the crops more effectively and efficiently. Finally, with the use of those natural resources as a biopesticide material can also maintain the environmental balance

The evolution of Mobile Networks and Internet of Things (IoT) architectures allows one to rethink the way smart cities infrastructures are designed and managed, and solve a number of problems in terms of human mobility. The territories that adopt the sensoring era can take advantage of this disruptive technology to improve the quality of mobility of their citizens and the rationalization of their resources. However, with this rapid development of smart terminals and infrastructures, as well as the proliferation of diversified applications, even current networks may not be able to completely meet quickly rising human mobility demands. Thus, they are facing many challenges and to cope with these challenges, different standards and projects have been proposed so far. Accordingly, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been utilized as a new paradigm for the design and optimization of mobile networks with a high level of intelligence. The objective of this work is to identify and discuss the challenges of mobile networks, alongside IoT and AI, to characterize smart human mobility and to discuss some workable solutions to these challenges. Finally, based on this discussion, we propose paths for future smart human mobility researches.

IntroductionSystemic lupus erythaematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease of heterogeneous involvement. The disease may affect feet with a high prevalence of symptoms such as, for example, pain, forefoot and rearfoot deformities, and biomechanics dysfunctions. Custom-made foot orthoses (CMFO) have been previously reported to be effective in patients with other rheumatic diseases. However, as far as the authors know, there exist no studies about their effectiveness in SLE. This study aims at determining the effect of CMFO versus placebo flat cushioning insoles on pain, foot functionality, fatigue and quality of life in patients with SLE.Methods and analysisA randomised controlled trial would compare the effects of (1) CMFO and group B, which received a placebo, flat cushioning insoles, for 3 months. The main outcome measures are foot pain, foot functionality and foot-related disability. The secondary outcome measures are fatigue and quality of life.Ethics and disseminationThe study has been approved by the Portal de Ética de la Investigación Biomédica de Andalucía ethical committee 1494-N-19. Category: Ankle Arthritis Introduction/Purpose: There are few reports describing conservative therapy for ankle osteoarthritis. Hiflex Foot Gear (HFG) is a custom-made polyethylene ankle–foot orthosis developed to permit slight mobility of the ankle while providing adequate ankle support. The purpose of this study was to validate the hypothesis that HFG improves the quality of life (QOL) in patients with ankle osteoarthritis.Subjects and methods. Methods: Ten ankles from eight patients (one man, seven women) diagnosed with ankle osteoarthritis at this hospital, prescribed an HFG, and observed for follow-up for at least 3 months were included in this study. The patients’ mean age was 69.9 (range: 46?85) years. Patients were classified as Takakura–Tanaka stage IIIa (2 ankles), stage IIIb (2 ankles), stage IV (6 ankles), with a mean observation period of 8.9 (range: 3?13) months. Clinical evaluations were made before and 3 months after wearing the orthosis. The ankle/hindfoot scale of the Japanese Society for Surgery of the Foot (JSSF) Standard Rating System and the Self-Administered Foot Evaluation Questionnaire (SAFE-Q) subscale of the Japanese Orthopaedic Association/Japanese Society for Surgery of the Foot, respectively, were used for making evaluations. Scores were compared using a paired t-test. Results: JSSF scores improved from 55.1 points at baseline to 71.4 points after wearing the HFG (p < 0.001). According to the SAFE-Q subscales, changes after wearing the HFG were as follows: 28.9 to 61.9 points for items related to pain (p < 0.001), 36.9 to 53.7 points for those related to physical function and daily life (p = 0.001), 31.3 to 58.9 points for those related to social functions (p = 0.002), and from 31.3 to 65.0 points for those related to overall perception of health (p < 0.001); items related to shoes showed no substantial change (from 52.1 to 53.6 points). Conclusion: Our results revealed that wearing the HFG improved pain in patients with severe ankle osteoarthritis. Retained flexibility in the ankle range of motion was believed to be the factor underlying improvements in physical function and daily life, social functions, and overall perception of health. HFG is a potential option for conservative therapy in patients who cannot obtain sufficient pain control during the preoperative waiting period or in those who do not wish to undergo surgery.

This study aims to analyze the ICN Kerinci Coffee Perfume agroindustry. Data collected from June 2019 to August 2019 were analyzed using the descriptive analysis to describe the business profile and quantitative analysis using the variable costing approach to explore profit and breakeven point. The results showed that the ICN Kerinci coffee perfume business is a medium-scale business with ten workers, including business owners as leaders who concurrently marketers and wives as administrative and financial staff. In fulfilling raw materials in green beans from the Robusta type, business owners collaborate with partner farmers. At the time of research, ICN Kerinci only produced one kind of product with two packaging variants, namely Kerinci original perfume for Rp.22,000/pack (45 grams) and an original variant + oil coffee (package) for Rp.35,000/pack. The study suggested expanding the market, especially to Eastern Indonesia, and increasing good cooperation with farmers to ensure the certainty of supply of raw materials; and provide prices based on sorting and grading to stimulate farmers to improve the quality of their green bean products.

Abstract Eastern goat’s rue (Galega orientales Lam.) possesses high fodder productivity and accumulates a large amount of vegetative mass with high humidity for harvesting for seeds. This greatly complicates the harvesting of grass stand for seeds. One of the ways to solve this problem is to carry out desiccation of the grass stand. A complicating factor in choosing the optimal harvesting period is the extended flowering and ripening period of goat’s rue beans, the duration of which reaches 25-35 days. The use of the drug Reglon Super based on diquat is a highly effective agrotechnical method that allows increasing the collection of seeds by 24%. The desiccation of the herbage contributes to the production of seeds with high sowing qualities. The seeds with the best sowing qualities are found in beans with yellow, brown, brown or dark brown color of the beans. In light green beans, the seeds are fully formed, but have a high moisture content. Goat’s rue beans do not crack or crumble at the onset of the full ripeness phase. This allows the seed to be harvested when most of the beans are ripe. A comparative assessment of the timing and method of harvesting the seed herbage of the goat’s rue showed that with a ripening of 39% and the presence of 47% of light green and yellow beans, the yield losses ranged from 26 to 56%. The highest seed yield in one confidence interval of 422-453 kg / ha and 444 kg / ha was obtained, respectively, by direct threshing with preliminary desiccation of the grass stand in the ripening phase of 74-97% of beans or by separate harvesting when mowing into swaths during ripening 74 % beans.

Small producers confront specific challenges when they opt to produce high-quality olive fruit. Limited resources for investing in harvest machinery and manpower are the main reasons for continuing a traditional harvest method that puts the final product and its economic value at risk. This paper discusses the efficiency of an integrated harvest system as a possible solution to these specific challenges. The system is formed by a newly designed manual harvesting device and the use of a cooling room near the olive grove. Both systems were evaluated to assess their feasibility for optimum conditions before processing. The combined effect of the harvesting method and cold storage on the fruit characteristics (incidence of decay, skin color, weight loss, firmness, respiration, and ethylene production) was evaluated on three different varieties (‘Arbequina’, ‘Picual’ and ‘Verdial’) and four different storage times (0, 4, 8, and 14 days). The results indicate that the proposed harvesting method in combination with an appropriate cooling system offers an affordable alternative for obtaining fruit with the best physiological characteristics.

Specialty coffee is generally found in areas with an altitude around 1000 meters above sea level (m a.s.l.) and is known to have a different distinctive flavor. One of the coffee plantations in South Sulawesi that has the potential to upgrade its status as a specialty coffee is the Sinjai regency. The sensory quality and chemical characteristics are the most important component of specialty coffee. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the chemical compounds and sensory quality in Manipi coffee beans in South Sulawesi, which has the potential to be classified as specialty coffee. The coffee cherries were collected from two locations based on different altitudes namely MA1 = 1200 m a.s.l. and MA2 = 1400 m a.s.l. The coffee cherries directly processed the wet method referring to Enrekang Arabica as a reference sample EA1 = 1200 m a.s.l. and EA2 = 1400 m a.s.l. The results showed that the chemical content and quality of sensory in Manipi Arabica coffee beans were affected by altitude. MA2 had the highest protein content (13.26%), lipid (7.67%), and caffeine (1.42%), whereas green arabica coffee beans with the highest carbohydrate content was MA1 (23.38%). The Enrekang Arabica were similar in terms of Manipi Arabica coffee beans had the highest protein, lipid, and caffeine content at an altitude of 1400 m a.s.l. respectively (12.41%), (10.73%), and (1.32%). The sensory quality of MA1 is 85.75, relatively similar to MA2 is 85.25. The Manipi Arabica coffee beans showed a specific flavor, namely brown sugar and vanilla notes from both altitudes. It had the potential to be developed into specialty coffee with a cup test score > 80.

AbstractHypothenemus hampei is one of the main causes of the decrease in production and quality of coffee. The fenomena of this damage can be indicted by dwarfing fruit color changing to a reddish yellow, and finally the fall resulted in a decrease in the quantity and quality of production. This production loss was affected by the attack level of coffe pest. Symptoms of coffe pest attack (PBKo) can be identicated by its attacting form where PBKo can destroy both the unripe and ripe coffe. This research aims to know the relationship attacks Percentage the production loss due to the pest attack. Hypothenemus hampei Ferr. (Coleoptera: Scolytidae) in Betara subdistrict of Tanjung Jabung Barat regency. This research has been conducted in July–August 2016. This research using survey method with linear regression analysis i.e. regression between the percentage of attacks and the percentage of production loss. The attack percentage of PBKo pests in the Parit Panglong Betara village range between 8.20 – 17.76%. The percentage highest production loss results on red skin color coffee 7.11% and low on coffee colored skin green beans 3.95%. The percentage of PBKo pest attack had not showed a very strong relationship with the level of production loss. Keywords: Hypothenemus hampei, coffee AbstrakHypothenemus hampei merupakan salah satu penyebab utama penurunan produksi dan mutu kopi. Kerusakan yang ditimbulkannya berupa buah menjadi tidak berkembang, berubah warna menjadi kuning kemerahan dan akhirnya gugur mengakibatkan penurunan jumlah dan mutu hasil. Kehilangan hasil dipengaruhi oleh tingkat serangan hama penggerek buah kopi. Gejala serangan hama penggerek buah kopi (PBKo) dapat diketahui dari bentuk  serangan dimana PBKo dapat menggerek buah kopi yang masih muda sampai dengan yang masak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan Persentase serangan dengan dugaan kehilangan hasil akibat serangan hama penggerek buah kopi Hypothenemus hampei Ferr.(Coleoptera:Scolytidae) di Kecamatan Betara Kabupaten Tanjung Jabung Barat. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Juli–Agustus 2016. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode survei dengan analisis regresi linier yaitu regresi antara persentase serangan dengan persentase kehilangan hasil. Persentase serangan hama PBKo di Desa Parit Panglong Betara berkisar antara 8,20 – 17,76 %. Persentase kehilangan hasil yang tertinggi didapatkan pada kopi yang warna kulit merah 7,11 % dan terendah pada kopi  yang berwarna kulit biji hijau 3,95 %.  Persentase serangan hama PBKo tidak memperlihatkan hubungan yang kuat dengan tingkat kehilangan hasil Kata kunci : Hypothenemus hampei, kopi
