This research is an approach to connect creativity and multicultural experiences (MCEs): we give insights into how and what type of MCE influences people’s perceptive abilities such as creativity. We offer one of the first empirical examinations that links the perception of creativity concept to strategy of acculturation. This study addresses an often-mentioned research gap by examining laypersons’ ability to perceive different levels of creativity. For this, a sample of 195 participants from 26 countries with and without MCE was researched. Findings indicate that attitudes as well as personal and professional goals apparently influence people’s creativity perception. The acculturation strategy integration seems to be a determining factor in this respect. As MCE has become a firm part of many people’s CV, the present paper adds to an omnipresent phenomenon in today’s society, which is worth studying.

The main goal of this paper is to present a theoretical proposal for the empirical analysis of personal reflexivity. Considering the challenges posed by the study of reflexivity, the contributions of different authors from sociology are discussed. A model for the analysis of the reflexive processes at the individual level is then proposed, based on the articulation between elements of critical realism and propositions fromdispositionalist theory and structuration theory. This model distinguishes internal and external dimensions of action and it is structured around different levels of analysis.

AbstractMARX’s analysis of forms and modern systems research have in common the problem of form. MARX analyzed forms by functionally relating elements to each other on different levels. Contrary to modern systems theories and Marxism-Leninism elements are for MARX forms themselves and not non-formal elementary qualities. The analysis of forms, therefore, is able to characterize its objects only relationally-functionally. On the other hand modern systems theories integrate concepts like ‚action‘ or ‚goal‘ in an elementaristic manner. The analysis of forms must be controlled by systematic concretization and totalization adequate to the problem. The formal concepts of systems research are often interpreted as logical-mathematical. Logic and mathematics are usually understood as non-empirical. Empirical analysis of forms is in need of an empirical logic and mathematics.

Abstract This article evaluates the judicial dialogue between the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACtHR). It aims to discuss, on the one hand, the use of the ICJ jurisprudence in the case law of the Inter-American Court and the use of the IACtHR jurisprudence in the case law of the ICJ, on the other hand. Being aware that the ICJ and the IACtHR are placed in different levels and possess structural differences, the judicial dialogue between these two courts is inevitably marked by asymmetries. The empirical analysis of the interaction between the ICJ and the IACtHR aims to identify the functions of the judicial dialogue, which encompass the general cross-fertilization function and the function of enhancing the persuasiveness, authority or legitimacy of individual judicial decisions.

AbstractProspects for democracy in multi-ethnic societies are generally more promising if elections are not mere ethnic censuses, in which people vote predominantly for co-ethnic parties and candidates. But what institutions facilitate or hinder ethnic voting? Unlike past studies, this article explores ethnic voting by conducting a natural experiment (rather than surveys or laboratory experiments). It examines the case of Fribourg, a bilingual (French/German) Swiss canton where elections at different levels of government, within the same electoral district, are held under both majoritarian and proportional systems. Coupled with the high territorial homogeneity of the linguistic groups, this unique setting allows us to conduct a robust empirical analysis of voter behaviour. We find that cross-ethnic voting is significantly more frequent in multi-member majoritarian elections than in list-PR elections or in two-member majoritarian elections. Our results yield qualified support to the centripetalist approach to electoral design in multi-ethnic societies, that favours majoritarian systems, rather than to the consociational school that advocates proportional representation.

The power of business is a very important issue for understanding the operation of democracy, but establishing the nature and extent of its power is not easy. We acknowledge that this is, in large part, an empirical problem and requires a more sophisticated conceptual framework to address it. Attempting to address this, the recent literature on the power of business has increasingly focused on the role of structure, agents and ideas. However, too little attention has been paid to how these concepts are defined and conceptualized. We argue that it is crucial to: specify the structures (economic/political/social) which we see as affecting the role of business; identify the agents, collective and individual, involved and how they interact; and specify which ideas are playing a role, at what level of generality and how these different ideas at different levels of generality interact. This article explores these issues through a critical consideration of the extant literature in order to provide a more developed framework for future empirical analysis.

Previous research shows that online reviews may have different effects for search goods and experience goods. However, as a typical type of experience goods, software can be further divided into different categories based on product characteristics. Little research has been conducted regarding the different effects of online reviews for different types of software. Furthermore, to offer free samples is another common practice of software firms to alleviate consumer uncertainty prior to purchase. To fill the corresponding research gap, this research focuses on the interaction effects between online reviews and free samples for different types of software. Through our empirical analysis, we find that user ratings significantly increase consumers’ sample downloads. Furthermore, consumers download more samples for some categories than for others. Finally, user and editor ratings might have differential effects for different types of software.

The Hare Krishna Movement, the Benedictine Order, and Jehovah's witnesses are religious positions with different levels of legitimacy in our society. But recourse to the content of their respective organizational and nonnative positions can open up multiple paths to empirical analysis. As a first outline of this, the comparative procedure of the present article attempts to transmit the importance of looking in greater depth at the nature of social representations starting from an interpretive model which is sufficiently broad and which considers, amongst others, the following themes: the system of ordering of the different cultural and religious codes, the functioning of power structures with their formal and informal mechanisms of social control, and the configuration of religious experiences and interactive processes in the context of the normative community.

The following empirical research investigated the difference of several form of commitment of part time students to their employer. Therefore, this study based on the three component model of Allen & Meyer (1990). Most of the previous empirical researches investigated the commitment of employees within an organization. The measurement of commitment of part time students to their employer is largely unexplored and build the research gap of the following empirical research. The objectives of the work are to present the previous scientific findings of the three components model of Allen & Meyer and to answer the question if and what extent the commitment of part time students in Germany changed during their study time.To test possible differences of commitment, the questionnaire with 24 items was used. 231 part-time students participated in the survey. In addition to the statistical basics, the differences of commitment were found by using a two sample t-test. A key finding of this research is that students at the end of their study time have a lower commitment to their employer as students at the begin of their study time.
