Important soccer tournaments like the World Cup and the European Cup are broadcast to billions of people across the world. Therefore, advertising through billboards surrounding the playing arena in a soccer match is very attractive for promoting the brand image of a company. Analysis of strength and weakness of such an advertisement is helpful for the sponsors since a lot of money is spent on it and due to its potential impact on a large number of viewers at the same time. In this paper, we present a two-stage fuzzy system for analyzing the visual impact of advertisement billboards in soccer telecasts. In the first stage, visual impact of each shot is evaluated. Two parameters, namely, size and duration, of the billboards are considered in the fuzzy rules. After the shot level analysis, results are combined in the second stage to derive an overall visual impact. In both the stages, parameters of the fuzzy set membership functions are tuned using the Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm. The results have been compared against a user survey.

Bats are known reservoirs of virulent zoonotic pathogens not known to experience disease. They are known as nature’s pest controllers which are insectivorous and pollinators which are frugivorous in their nature. In the entire ecosystem bats play a vital role in various ways to sustain the diversity at its best. However, recent events have cast great aspersions on the bat behavior and the potential impact it has on Public Health not just in a specified region but  globally. The impact has been devastating and disastrous. The recent COVID 19 pandemic spell, opened the eyes of the scientific community, economists and even governments to work together. A host of issues were brought to light, as to how viral pathogenicity has played havoc with such virulence in the world community.  Numerous studies proved beyond doubt bats act as natural reservoirs for a large number of emerging and re emerging pathogens that other animals and humans can contract. It would be surprising to know that these viruses  are also listed in the bioterrorism list of pathogens. Such diversity shows that the bats are well adapted to the effects of virulent pathogens within their internal milieu. The first report of transmission of a bat virus to human was reported in 1960, it was the Rabies virus belonging to the Lyssa virus genus. SARS, Ebola, Nipah have already proven to be virulent and lethal.(1)   AIM To ascertain the viral dynamics in bats that lead to rapid transmission and infectivity in humans Objectives To understand the characteristics that bats possess, to host virulent pathogens To outline the mechanisms in bats in causing rapid transmission to humans

This chapter discusses the impact of stage design on musical theatre, and the development of musical theatre as a product packaged for consumption across the world. Its focus is chiefly on British musicals of the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, during which ‘scenography’ has become recognized as the term for describing the whole theatre-designed space, encompassing, set, costume, sound, light, and more recently including film, animations, and a host of projection technologies and digital media. The chapter refers to contemporary reviews of productions, their success and failure, and the nature of the musical as a form in harmony with new scenic production aesthetics. What becomes apparent in this chapter is the interconnectedness of scenic practices and production aesthetics, which relates directly to the visual impact of musicals on the British stage and the interchange of production styles and modes of the UK and North America.

The purpose of this paper is to provide shipping companies a straightforward tool for assessing the attractiveness of implementing a speed optimization program for their vessels. The curves and analyses provided are not meant to be absolutely accurate but rather to provide a “reasonable” level of accuracy for identifying the potential impact on profitability of a speed optimization program. The author has endeavored to highlight areas where additional technical input or accuracy improvement is appropriate for final decision-making and implementation.

Sustainable development is one of the greatest challenges facing our generation and the next, and achieving this goal will force society to continuously challenge and overcome itself. In order to attain the required sustainable objectives, many companies are investing in new methodologies, such as the Kaizen-Lean methodology. This chapter focuses on a case study in the food retail industry, a strategic and one of the largest and oldest industries in the world able to thrive even in the face of substantial adversity. The authors systematized the case study in three different stages via an action-research intervention. In a first stage, they identified the most sensitive areas, which enabled them to detect and target the intervention. In a second stage, they implemented and monitored several actions supported by the Kaizen/Lean methodologies. In a third stage, a survey was applied to workers whose work areas had changed in order to analyze and assess the impact of the implemented measures.

This study examines changes in international tourist arrivals in Melbourne, Australia after the 2006 Commonwealth Games, and tourist arrivals in Jamaica after the 2007 Cricket World Cup matches to answer the questions: do international arrivals increase as a result of hosting a large sporting event, and how long is the impact sustained over the post-event period? Using data prior to the Games, autoregressive models with independent variables were used to model these series. The differences between the actual and predicted series after the Games were attributed to shocks caused by hosting the Commonwealth Games. In the Australian case, the results indicate that after the Games, international arrivals were marginally higher than before the Games. In the Jamaican case, the data indicate that while there was an increase in international tourist arrivals for the event, the international tourist arrivals from non-traditional countries increased after the World Cup Cricket matches.

Qatar is one of the few countries in the world with a dedicated national sports day. Qatar believes that sport is one of the best tools to promote a healthy lifestyle to help curb the growing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). With the well-established positive health effects of soccer on cardiovascular, metabolic, and musculoskeletal conditions, the vision of the FIFA World Cup 2022™ hosted by Qatar to use the power of soccer to “open the door of an amazing world experience” is praiseworthy. With NCDs accounting for 70% of deaths in Qatar, there exists a perfect opportunity to promote healthy lifestyles to prevent, treat, and reverse NCDs. We believe that the FIFA World Cup 2022™ presents an opportunity that could contribute to generating valuable evidence on the lifestyle benefits of such large-scale events. This event comes at an opportune moment for countries in the region to make their health systems lifestyle-sensitive. FIFA World Cup 2022™ could just be the tipping point in the region that establishes the role of sports in mitigating the burden of NCDs. With the impact of COVID-19 on persons with pre-existing NCDs, the urgency for addressing the “syndemic” cannot be overemphasized and sport can be the lifestyle medicine.
