Everybody has opinions on grand challenges---bold tasks that capture the imagination of researchers and system builders---for AI. One of the earliest set of challenge goals was enunciated by Turing award winner and AAAI President, Raj Reddy, in 1988. I attempt to provide an accounting of the progress that has been made in the field, over the last three decades, towards those challenge goals. While some tasks such as the world-champion chess machine were accomplished in short order, many others remain incomplete. A new set of challenges for the current decade are also proposed, spanning the Health, Wealth and Wisdom spheres. Bridging the gap from narrow AI to general-purpose AI will be required to solve some of these challenges; teaming architectures in the service of humankind will also need to be emphasized. The mantra should be: Of the people, by the people with machines ; for the people!

In this essay, I analyze the rise of post-earthquake activism in L’Aquila as an exemplification of counterpublics’ transformation into social movements endowed with “poetic” agency. Engendering “poetic agency,” for a counterpublic and for a social movement alike, denotes being able to bring forth change in the world and  being able to generate change in a creative, “poetic” way. In this sense, poetic assumes a connotation that opposes  the Habermasian perspective of a public sphere in which only a  rational-critical discourse can be engendered as check on the State. In the case of L’Aquila, I contend that the post-earthquake social movements’ capability of effecting  change in public life through poiesis has been enhanced by the possibilities of the Web 2.0 and by the activists’ acknowledgement of new ways of political participation in a world of spectacularized politics. In this instance, strategies such as the exploitation of alternative “public screens” on the web and the use of “minor rhetorics” to contrast the mainstream media portrayal of the post-disaster situation worked together in a creative and spontaneous effort to improve the condition of the people living in the area affected by the quake.

A software project is developed by collaboration of some expert people. However, the collaboration puts obstacles in the way of software development when the involved people in the project are scattered over the world. Although Internet has provided a collection of scattered islands in which the denizens of the islands are able to communicate with each other, it lacks full requisite qualifications for the collaboration among the denizens. The emerging idea is that a supportive environment should be developed on the Web for providing full requisite qualifications and facilitating collaboration. Towards providing such an environment, this chapter aims to present a framework exploiting Open Hypermedia System (OHS) and a Web-based collaboration protocol. OHS assists in saving and restoring artifacts constructed by the scattered people, and the protocol provides channels to concurrent communication and distributed authoring among the people.

Social media is one of the major outcomes of progressive changes in the world of technology. The various social webs and mobile technologies have accelerated the rate at which information sharing is done, how relationships developed, and influences are held. Social media is increasingly being used by the people to help and shape the world's events and cultures with the ability to share pictures, ideas, events, etc. Further, it has transformed the way the authors interpret life and the way business is done. This article presents a decision system for selecting an appropriate social media platform (such as Facebook or Twitter) to post content with the objective to maximize the reachability of the post. The decision is made considering the domain or subject of the post and retrieving data associated with it from the web at regular time intervals. The retrieved data has been trained using logistics and K-NN regression to classify a particular instance of data and identify the platform which can provide the most reachability. The system also suggests keywords related to the topic of the post which has been mostly used in recent times.

With the great interest in orb webs and their makers at the present time (Witt, et al, 1968; Witt, ed., 1969) any observations on webs and habits of orb weavers of genera other than the ones (Araneus, Zygiella, Argiope and Uloborus) used currently by experimenters are of interest.Although spiders of the genus Gea are widespread, with species in the subtropics and tropics around the world, no studies of life history or careful web observations of any species of Gea have been made. Since Gea is believed related to the much larger Argiope (Levi, 1968), it was of interest to see whether Gea species have similar habits, as resting in the center of the web and building a stabilimentum (a zigzag swatch of silk above and below the hub), and whether they made a similar eggcase. Levi (1968) reviews our limited knowledge of Gea as follows: the web is vertical with a dense viscid spiral and apparently without a stabilimentum; it is probably made in low vegetation and the spider drops from it when slightly disturbed.

ABSTRAK The current condition of the world in a work becomes more difficult while the people that need the job continues to increase. One way to solve the current conditions with make the employment not seeking job namely entrepreneur. According to the data from the BPS the level of entrepreneurship in Indonesia have increased in the 2013/2014 and still 1.67 percent and now based on data BPS already rose to 3.1 percent. This was allegedly caused by an improvement in the motivation from both internal factors and external factors. The problems in the search is how the influence of the risk tolerance factor, freedom in working, success themselves in pushing the entrepreneurs decision either partially or simultaneously and which the dominant factors. This research uses the validity Test, Test reliability, classical assumptions, double linier Regression, double correlation, Determination Test, F and t tests. The results of the analysis showed that the questionnaire used in the collection of data is valid and reliable and does not have the problem of classical assumptions. Y = 3,790 + 0,246 X1 + 0,242 X2 + 0,313 X3, R = 0,705. F count ( 29,585) > F table (2.71). From t test, obtained : t count x1y t (2,624); x2y (3,083): x3y (3,569) > t table (1,987). The 13 th ACM Web Science Conference was hosted online by the University of Southampton from 21--25 June, 2021. The annual event is inherently interdisciplinary, integrating computer and information sciences with a multitude of disciplines including sociology, economics, political science, law, management, language and communication, geography and psychology. It is unique in the way it brings these disciplines together in creative and critical dialogue. It focuses on the full scope of socio-technical relationships that are engaged in the World Wide Web, based on the notion that understanding the Web involves not only an analysis of its architecture and applications, but also insight into the people, organisations, policies, and economics that are affected by and subsumed within it. Since it was first held in Athens in 2009, the conference has been hosted in six countries around the world.

PurposeLifelong learning needs to be visualized as the milestone for generating a progressive and knowledge society. Because it is through lifelong learning that one can continuously upgrade one's knowledge and acquire the relevant skills for getting livelihood opportunities. Moreover, for ensuring a sustainable and advanced society in the 21st century industrial setup, people are desirous to receive a global form of learning as they tend to follow the principle, that is, “earning while learning”. In this context, the various types of online courses, Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and Open Educational Resources (OERs) provide myriad opportunities to the people by introducing them to a global form of learning. Against this background, the introduction of MOOCs in India for providing lifelong learning opportunities might work in a big way. However, to what extent, can MOOCs promote the idea of lifelong learning in a vast country like India needs to be discussed in greater detail.Design/methodology/approachWhile writing the paper, descriptive research methodology has been used. The sources such as Report of Census 2011, Human Development Report 2016, 2018, Economic Survey 2016 are also consulted. Analysis has been done based on the data extracted from the secondary source of information.FindingsThe literature review made in the paper implies that the educational institutes across India may adopt some of the good national and international practices for transforming the society and produce some need-based MOOCs under the SWAYAM platform with regard to providing opportunities of lifelong learning. Thus, the courses run through SWAYAM should help in achieving the three cardinal principles of the Indian Education – access, equity and quality. However, there are many challenges to be met while the adoption and development of MOOCs for the purpose of lifelong learning in India are taken into consideration. The current modes and popularity of digitally offered education in India thus need to be justified.Research limitations/implicationsThe discussions made in the paper are limited to a reference to the Indian MOOCs particularly under SWAYAM, and it is a general study only.Practical implicationsIt is important to note that a new kind of transformation is currently being initiated across the world by encouraging more and more online interventions in the field of education. In fact, various studies are also being conducted on the implementation of online courses across the world, particularly in the developed countries where more than 70% education is delivered online. However, in a country like India, the practical utility or the implementation of the online courses such as MOOCs is not so popular even at present, and it is only limited to a small section of the society. The University Grants Commission (UGC) with a view to promoting CBCS as well as Credit Transfer made 20% course delivery through MOOCs mandatory in Indian higher education. However, the CBCS system itself has several loopholes considered in the Indian context, as it was launched without sufficient ground work, and no one seems to have a clear idea of its implementation method. The UGC's move was to introduce a system of education that would help in bringing parity of Indian higher education with Western or European higher education systems. This paper shall try to imply how the Indian MOOCs should be used in providing lifelong learning opportunities to the people of the country.Social implicationsThis paper refers to a new social constructivism initiated through MOOCs, where a learner can directly interact with the people in the community, share their own ideas and thoughts and collectively undertake new researches. This is sure to transform the Indian society in the days to come, although a study on the usefulness of the existing MOOCs is of utmost necessityOriginality/valueThis paper reiterates the necessity of a detailed study of the available MOOCs in India based on the findings of the common problems and challenges of MOOCs development and implementations that need to be resolved first. Then the paper provides an analysis of this situation so that one could develop or adopt a MOOC in order to meet one's need of lifelong learning in a country like India.

Social media was started with the intention of expelling the darkness from the lives of people by way of sharing knowledge, networking and communicating with near and dear. It all started with the purpose of imparting its benefits to all and making it user friendly. But the liberation of the down trodden, intended to voice their opinions, was turned into a hysterical chaos given the liberal mindedness of the people. What started off as a source of knowledge turned people into gadget freaks, attention seeking, financial and societal deficits. Given the nature of social media combined with the need to be social has turned it into a platform to mirror the human’s self-image. The world has become a ball of information enabling people to never look or stop anywhere. The world is alive and networked 24/7. The digitalization of media turned out to be a flourishing business, especially through social media, smartphones, tablets and apps. A few billion people are always online and it is expected that heaps of devices and sensors will be available on the web soon.
