Allium cepais a natural dye that has been extracted from onion skin with the help of soxhlet apparatus. The pigment in the dye pelargonidin was found to be 2.25%. The interaction of the dye with ionic surfactants, namely, cationic surfactant (cetyltrimethylammonium bromide) and anionic (sodium lauryl sulphate) has been studied by spectrophotometrically, conductivity, and surface tension measurements. The thermodynamic and surface parameters have been evaluated for the interaction process. The results indicate{surfactant-dye}complex formation and domination of adsorption in comparison to micellization.

The adsorption of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and nonyl phenyl ethoxylates (NP-n, where n = 13, 20 and 30) on to polystyrene powder has been studied. Concentrations of surfactant solutions ranging from below CMC to well above CMC were investigated. In a single surfactant system, only the cationic surfactant (CTAB) was found to adsorb appreciably while nonionic surfactants showed negligible adsorption. In mixed surfactant systems, the cationic surfactant was found to induce significant co-adsorption of non-ionic surfactants. The increased adsorption of non-ionic surfactants has been attributed to the formation of non-ideal mixed hemimicelles due to intercomponent lateral interactions. However, non-ionic surfactants with longer hydrophilic chains did not form mixed hemimicelles with CTAB. In general, zeta potential measurements support the adsorption results.

Bismuth oxychloride photocatalysts were obtained using solvothermal synthesis and different additives (CTAB—cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, CTAC—cetyltrimethylammonium chloride, PVP–polyvinylpyrrolidone, SDS–sodium dodecylsulphate, U—urea and TU—thiourea). The effect of the previously mentioned compounds was analyzed applying structural (primary crystallite size, crystal phase composition, etc.), morphological (particle geometry), optical (band gap energy) parameters, surface related properties (surface atoms’ oxidation states), and the resulted photocatalytic activity. A strong dependency was found between the surface tension of the synthesis solutions and the overall morpho-structural parameters. The main finding was that the characteristics of the semiconductors can be tuned by modifying the surface tension of the synthesis mixture. It was observed after the photocatalytic degradation, that the white semiconductor turned to grey. Furthermore, we attempted to explain the gray color of BiOCl catalysts after the photocatalytic decompositions by Raman and XPS studies.

Concerned with the influence of the size of water droplets on the effect of wet compression, it is important to control the size of water droplets among 5–10 microns or smaller, for this purpose an experimental work is carried out by improve the surface behavior of water aiming to reduce its surface tension. Non-ionic surfactants and its combination were employed to reach such an aim. The surface tension of water was reduced from 72.9mN/m to 41.2mN/m or even lower depending on the cost. It offers a possible way to refine spray, and ready to use in wet compression process.
