The first and generalized second laws of thermodynamics are studied inf(R,Lm)gravity, a more general modified theory with curvature matter coupling. It is found that one can translate the Friedmann equations to the form of first law accompanied with entropy production term. This behavior is due to the nonequilibrium thermodynamics in this theory. We establish the generalized second law of thermodynamics and develop the constraints on coupling parameters for two specific models. It is concluded that laws of thermodynamics in this modified theory are more general and can reproduce the corresponding results in Einstein,f(R)gravity, andf(R)gravity with arbitrary as well as nonminimal curvature matter coupling.

In this work, we study the first and generalized second laws of thermodynamics at the apparent horizon of homogeneous and isotropic universe model in the context of f (G, T) gravity (G and T represent the Gauss-Bonnet invariant and trace of the energymomentum tensor, respectively). We formulate the corresponding field equations as well as determine the radius, temperature and entropy to analyze these laws. An extra term associated with entropy production is appeared in the first law due to the non-equilibrium treatment of thermodynamics. It is found that the universal condition is obtained to preserve the generalized second law of thermodynamics.

We consider the particle creation scenario in the dynamical Chern-Simons modified gravity in the presence of perfect fluid equation of state p=(γ-1)ρ. By assuming various modified entropies (Bekenstein entropy logarithmic entropy, power law correction, and Renyi entropy), we investigate the first law of thermodynamics and generalized second law of thermodynamics on the apparent horizon. In the presence of particle creation rate, we discuss the generalized second law of thermodynamics and thermal equilibrium condition. It is found that thermodynamics laws and equilibrium condition remain valid under certain conditions of parameters.

We investigate the generalized second law of thermodynamics by assuming the interaction of dark energy and dark matter in Chern–Simons modified gravity. We consider a family of holographic dark energy models by assuming its various cutoffs such as Hubble horizon, event horizon, their combination, Ricci scalar and its generalized form. The general criteria of generalized second law of thermodynamics in terms of coincidence parameter is being developed. This criterion is being applied for the above-mentioned holographic dark energy models to check the validity of the generalized second law of thermodynamics and the constraints where it is respected are referred.

The relationship of the first and second laws of thermodynamics based on their energy nature is considered. It is noted that the processes described by the second law of thermodynamics often take place hidden within the system, which makes it difficult to detect them. Nevertheless, even with ideal mixing, an increase in the internal energy of the system occurs, numerically equal to an increase in free energy. The largest contribution to the change in the value of free energy is made by the entropy of mixing, which has energy significance. The entropy of mixing can do the job, which is confirmed in particular by osmotic processes.

We examine thermodynamically an extra driving term for the flat universe by applying Sharma Mittal entropy to Padmanabhan’s holographic equipartition law. Deviations from the Bekenstein–Hawking entropy by using this law, we generate an extra driving in the acceleration equation. By using the constant and parametrized equation of state parameter, we investigate the different cosmological parameters like deceleration parameter, squared speed of sound, Om-diagnostic and statefinder parameter through graphical approach. We observe compatible results with current observational data in both models. Generalized second law of thermodynamics also remains valid in both cases.

Thermodynamics of the evolving Lorentzian wormhole at the apparent horizon is investigated in [Formula: see text] gravity. Redefining the energy density and the pressure, the continuity equation is satisfied and the field equations in [Formula: see text] gravity reduce to the ones in general relativity. However, the energy–momentum tensor includes all the corrections from [Formula: see text] gravity. Therefore, one can apply the standard entropy-area relation within [Formula: see text] gravity. It is shown that there may be an equivalency between the field equations and the first law of thermodynamics. It seems that an equilibrium thermodynamics may be held on the apparent horizon. The validity of the generalized second law of thermodynamics (GSL) is also investigated in the wormholes.
