Since its beginning, around the 50s decade, until present days, the area of unmanned underwater vehicles (UUV) has considerably grown through time; those have been used for many tasks and applications, from bomb searching and recovery to sea exploration. Initially, these robots were used mainly for military and scientific purposes. However, nowadays, they are very much extended into civils, and it is not hard to find them being used for recreation. In this context, the present research is an effort to make a walkthrough of evolution in this area, showing a diversity of structure designs, used materials, sensor and instrumentation technologies, kinds and the number of actuators employed, navigation control techniques, and what is new in development trends. The paper gives a clear starting point for those who are initializing into this research area; also, it brings some helpful knowledge for those who already have experience.

Taking into account the rapid development of marine underwater equipment for exploration and mining from the bottom of the oceans, which is impossible without the widespread use of unmanned underwater vehicles (UUV), issues related to their separation from the carrier are undoubtedly relevant. Among the wide range of underwater vehicles used for these purposes, a special place is occupied by torpedo-shaped UUV. Their main mission includes issues of exploration of mineral deposits, an overview of the underwater situation during work, as well as issues of monitoring the technical condition of equipment, equipping mining sites, as well as protecting the area. The article analyzes the development trends of overboard launchers based on open foreign and domestic publications (articles, patents, advertising booklets). The well-known technical solutions of overboard launchers are considered and the most promising directions for the development of launchers are outlined.

Unmanned underwater vehicles require a hull resistant to immersion and, therefore, to hydrostatic pressure, which places high demands on its design, manufacture and inspection, where dimensional control is a fundamental part of the verification of the shapes of the structure. In this research, a comparison is made of the dimensional control techniques currently used for the naval sector and their viability in the field of unmanned underwater vehicles. A cylindrical body steel model will be measured, with the characteristic dimensions of the unmanned underwater vehicles, executing tests using three measurement techniques, such as the optical measurement of surface points, the surface probing technology and the surface laser scanner with large volume of points. Experimental data will be provided in terms of mean diameter of the sections that make up the hull, defect of circularity and position of the optimum centre, which will lead to the development of a guide of good practices for selecting and using each technique depending on the requirements and demands of the unmanned underwater vehicle under study.

Collecting information from previous investigations and expressing it in a scientometrics study can be a priceless guide to getting a complete overview of a specific research area. The aim of this study is to explore the interrelated connection between alginate, gelatine, and hydroxyapatite within the scope of bone tissue and scaffold. A review of traditional literature with data mining procedures using bibliometric analyses was considered to identify the evolution of the selected research area between 2009 and 2019. Bibliometric methods and knowledge visualization technologies were implemented to investigate diverse publications based on the following indicators: year of publication, document type, language, country, institution, author, journal, keyword, and number of citations. An analysis using a bibliometric study found that 7446 papers were located with the keywords “bone tissue” and “scaffold”, and 1767 (alginate), 185 (gelatine), 5658 (hydroxyapatite) papers with those specific sub keywords. The number of publications that relate to “tissue engineering” and bone more than doubled between 2009 (1352) and 2019 (2839). China, the United States and India are the most productive countries, while Sichuan University and the Chinese Academy of Science from China are the most important institutions related to bone tissue scaffold. Materials Science and Engineering C is the most productive journal, followed by the Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part A. This paper is a starting point, providing the first bibliometric analysis study of bone tissue and scaffold considering alginate, gelatine and hydroxyapatite. A bibliometric analysis would greatly assist in giving a scientific insight to support desired future research work, not only associated with bone tissue engineering applications. It is expected that the analysis of alginate, gelatine and hydroxyapatite in terms of 3D bioprinting, clinical outcomes, scaffold architecture, and the regenerative medicine approach will enhance the research into bone tissue engineering in the near future. Continued studies into these research fields are highly recommended.

Abstract The present work describes an integrated, two-phase computer-based method for fabricating marine propulsors using stereolithography. This new methodology seamlessly integrates stereolithography rapid prototyping techniques with the hydrodynamic design, structural design, and prototype testing of advanced marine propulsors in order to greatly increase the design process efficiency and reduce development time. Its use as applied to the design, fabrication, and testing of advanced propulsor prototypes for small weapon’s-scale undersea vehicles (e.g., Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs), lightweight and heavyweight torpedoes, etc.) is described in order to demonstrate specific strengths of the new method.

The intensive development of autonomous underwater robotic complexes is very important for the development of the World Ocean. One of the main problems of using underwater robotic complexes is an increase searching efficiency of underwater devices based on the integration of the capabilities of onboard radio-electronic systems of obtaining information in various physical fields. Analyzing the physical basis of the search, including the consideration of the environment of its conduct, objects, as well as detection tools, it can be noted that the result of the search operations of the same objects in the same water areas for various underwater robotic complexes depends on what means of detection they are equipped. The presence of a certain set of the technical means will specify the development of the optimal sequence of actions of the search algorithm. The creation of such algorithms in relation to the task of increasing the search potential of underwater robotics will determine the direction of the research that ensures the formation of an optimal system of underwater search. Efficient use of search resources substantiates the conclusion that radio-electronic means of submersibles forming the system of underwater search, include the number of devices functionally interconnected for its effective conduct. The specified combination is aimed at the formation of the so-called integrated search system, which provides an exchange of information between different channels of searching devices about all objects detected. The article provides proposals for the creation of integrated search systems taking into account practical experiments and experience in designing underwater vehicles capable to implement the optimal system of underwater search using laser technologies.
