To further explore the crack evolution of floor rock mass, the mechanism of fault activation, and water inrush, this paper analyzes the crack initiation and propagation mechanism of floor rock mass and obtains the initiation criteria of shear cracks, layered cracks, and vertical tension cracks. With the help of simulation software, the process of fault activation and crack evolution under different fault drop and dip angles was studied. The results show that the sequence of crack presented in the mining rock mass is vertical tension cracks, shear cracks, and layered cracks. The initiation and propagation of the shear cracks at the coal wall promote the fault activation, which tends to be easily caused at a specific inclination angle between 45° and 75°. The fault drop has no obvious impact on the evolution of floor rock cracks and will not induce fault activation. However, the increase of the drop will cause the roof to collapse, reducing the possibility of water inrush disaster. Research shows that measures such as adopting improved mining technology, reducing mining disturbance, increasing coal pillar size, and grouting before mining as reinforcement and artificial forced roof can effectively prevent water inrush disasters caused by deep mining due to fault activation.

Ground surface in Yonglong coal mine is hilly terrain. There is a Yinshigou reservoir on minefield. Deep coal seam mining under the reservoir has an influence on the deformation of oversize normal fault, and can cause severe mine water-inrush. Using numerical simulation software UDEC, the paper studied the characteristics of plastic zone and stress field in front of coal face in the hanging wall of the fault, while the coal face advance distances from setting-up room to coal face line were different. The results showed that while the distance from coal face to the fault i. e. the width of fault-protected pillar, was 80 m, the front abutment pressure had less influence on two sides rock mass of the fault, the fault reduced the vertical stress of its surrounding rocks; The surrounding rocks in the vicinity of fault were in a same vertical displacement contour, whose displacement was very smaller. Reasonable fault-protected pillar width of the numerical study was much closer to the average water-proof coal pillar width based on coal mines water prevention regulations of China. Consequently, while the width of fault-protected pillar is more than 80 m, coal seam mining in hanging wall of fault has no influence on the fault, and coal seam safely mining under the reservoir could be carried out.

As the dangerous level of floor water inrush in Chinese coal field is becoming more and more serious annually, the widely used formulas of broken floor rock mass are belonged to nonlinear type or empirical type. However, they are not well conformed to the practical situation and including mining underground pressure. The biggest depth of broken floor rock mass and the length of gob-floor or mining-floor until the maximum broken floor location are expressed by theoretical formulas on integrity theory. Taking a mining face in Chinese Anhui Province as the object, the relationship between broken floor rock mass and mining underground pressure is studied by numerical simulation, the theoretical analysis, and the DC exploration. The peak and scope of broken floor rock mass will enlarge until reaching limit value with the increasingly advanced distance. The mining gob stress contour is saddle-shaped, and its growing speed is becoming slower, so the 180 m coal mining face has reached the sufficient mining stage. Wave velocity of broken floor rock mass from 0 m to 16 m is greatly decreased by the mining disturbance, and it is basically conformed to theoretical formula and practical situation. The results can be relatively better used in the pressure mining of the Ordovician limestone, because it can provide some safe guarantee for mining deep coal seam.

Abstract In order to find out the characteristics of geological isomer exposed in the mining process of 12318 working face in Pansan Mine and grasp its influence law on subsequent coal seams mining, the isomer was firstly determined as the collapse column by means of 3D seismic, transient electromagnetic detection, SYT detection and other methods, and its development characteristics, conductivity and water enrichment were identified. Then FLAC3D numerical simulation software was used to analyze the characteristics of vertical stress and plastic failure zone in different coal seams during mining. Finally, by comparing the ultimate failure depth of floor and the thickness of waterproof layer in the process of each coal seam directly pushing through the collapse column, the risk of water inrush and the prevention are analyzed. The results show that the exposed geological isomer is characterized by weak water-rich collapse column.Under the influence of the mining of the previous coal seam and the activation of the collapse column, the subsequent coal seam is in the low stress area before mining, which increases the floor failure and causes the activation of the collapse column more easily during mining.Coal 5# and 4# can be directly pushed through the collapse column, and coal pillar of sufficient width should be left for coal 1# to prevent the collapse column from activating water inrush.

A floor aquifuge usually bends and fails when mining above a confined aquifer, which may lead to water inrush disaster. The floor aquifuge was simplified as a thin disc model in this paper, and a series of coupled bending-seepage tests of sandstone were carried out by a patent test system. The variation characteristics of load-displacement, load-time, and permeability-time were analyzed. The deflection and stress in the thin disc rock samples were deduced; the initiation and propagation of cracks were analyzed. The failure behavior of the thin disc rock samples was described. It shows the following: (1) The bending failure behavior relates to the stress distribution and crack evolution inside the thin disc. (2) The main cause of crack initiation is a tension-shear failure. (3) The 5 mm thickness thin discs form petal-shaped cracks, due to tensile stress, while petal-shaped cracks only appear at the cap block of the 10 mm discs, which are sheared into two pieces along the conical surface with an inclination about 45°. (4) Water inrush occurs after bending failure in the floor aquifuge, and it is an opportune moment to grout along the crack propagation trend lines to prevent the water inrush disasters.

The water inrush of the Shangjiawan karst tunnel is used to study the evolution pattern of precursor water inrush information in water-filled caves and to further reveal the matching mode of the information. The three-dimensional numerical method FLAC3D was used to simulate the evolution process of water inrush after damage to a water-blocking rock mass structure in a water-filled cave and to obtain the evolution pattern of precursor water-inrush information caused by the damage. The results show that the multifield response to the characteristic precursor information of the water-inrush pattern after the fracture of the water-blocking rock mass follows the order of stress-field displacement-field seepage-field. Further, the matching pattern of the information shows that the stress field increased first and then decreased, the displacement field always increased, and the seepage field increased first and then decreased.

Water inrush and mud outburst are one of the crucial engineering disasters commonly encountered during the construction of many railways and tunnels in karst areas. In this paper, based on fluid dynamics theory and discrete element method, we established a fractured rock mass mud inflow model using particle flow PFC3D numerical software, simulated the whole process of fractured rock mass mud inflow, and discussed the effect of particle size and flow velocity on the change of pressure gradient. The numerical simulation results show that the movement of particles at the corner of the wall when the water pressure is first applied occurs similar to the vortex phenomenon, with the running time increases, the flow direction of particles changes, the vortex phenomenon disappears, and the flow direction of particles at the corner points to the fracture; in the initial stage, the slope of the particle flows rate curves increases in time, and the quadratic function is used for fitting. After the percolation velocity of particles reaches stability, the slope of the curve remains constant, and the primary function is used for fitting; the particle flow rate and pressure gradient are influenced by a variety of factors, and they approximately satisfy the exponential function of an “S” curve.

<p>The Preonzo rock slope instability in southern Switzerland partly collapsed in 2012, releasing a volume of ~210’000 m3 and leaving behind an unstable rock mass of about 140’000 m3. Shortly after the collapse, a small-aperture seismic array measurement was performed on the remaining unstable volume. The analysis of these data showed a fundamental resonance frequency of about 3.5 Hz and strong wavefield amplifications with factors of more than 30 in direction perpendicular to open tension cracks. Normal mode analysis by frequency domain decomposition using the fundamental and several higher modes allowed for mapping the fracture network of the instability.<br>However, the observed amplification factors and mode shapes could not be explained solely by the open tension cracks visible at the surface. Strong amplifications, especially at frequencies of higher modes, were observed on the uphill part of the rear fracture, which was supposed to be outside the presumed unstable area. The zone where amplifications rapidly decreased in the uphill direction coincides roughly with a geomorphological lineament in the field, interpreted as an additional, but hidden, rear fracture. <br>We performed active seismic refraction tomography across this lineament and discovered distinct low velocity anomalies in the transition zone from high to low amplifications, supporting the interpretation of an additional fracture. Considering this new finding, the volume of the unstable rock mass increases by about 40 %. </p>

In order to study the occurrence mechanism of rock burst in L-shaped zone during a fully mechanized mining period, the No. 705 working face which is located in Baojishan Colliery is taken as a typical engineering background. By means of in situ investigation, theoretical analysis, numerical simulation, in situ tests, and relevant monitoring methods, the occurrence mechanism of rock burst and corresponding prevention technology are studied. The results show that a coal pillar with some confining pressure in the L-shaped zone is established by FLAC3D numerical simulation software, and the numerical simulation results indicate that the change in static load has a greater effect than dynamic load on coal pillar unstable failure; the static load plays a role in storing energy, and dynamic load plays a role in inducing rock burst; the bolt-mesh-cable support and high-pressure water jet unloading combined technology is put forward to prevent rock burst in roadways, and the numerical simulation results show that stress distribution of surrounding rock meets the model of strong-soft-strong (3S) structure, and the moment distribution is reasonable. In the follow-up mining, a limit value of coal fines is used to determine that this measure is a reasonable method to prevent rock burst. The study conclusions provide theoretical foundation and new guidance for preventing rock burst by synergistic effect technology in roadways.
