Background. Hemimaxillectomy of acquired palatal defects may predispose the patient to hypernasal speech, leakage of fluids into the nasal cavity, impaired masticatory function, and swallowing difficulties leading to a detrimental impact on the quality of life. Sequentially, it can also affect individual character and trust in social life, leading to social phobia and anxiety. This article presents prosthodontic management of a young male patient with deformation of the entire right half of the face due to surgical removal of odontogenic myxoma. It describes a method where the clinician utilized a simple, noninvasive, and cost-effective technique to cut the weight of the obturator and to attain aesthetics, utilizing a detachable lip and cheek plumper. Case Presentation. A 19-year-old male attended the Prosthodontic Clinics at Faculty of Dentistry, the University of Khartoum, eight months after the surgical removal of a tumor. The chief complaint was difficulty eating or drinking. Furthermore, he dropped out of school because of his facial deformity and his indistinct voice. Medical and dental history revealed surgical resection of the entire right half of the maxillary alveolar bone due to myxoma. Intraoral examination revealed a well-healed surgical defect in the maxillary right buccal vestibule creating an oroantral communication. A treatment plan was formulated, keeping the patient’s demand in mind. The decision was made to treat the patient with a maxillary obturator that would gain its support from the remaining teeth and tissues with a detachable cheek and lip plumper. The use of dental magnets as a means of attachment was elected. Conclusion. This article has described a simple, noninvasive, and cost-effective method to improve facial appearance in patients with hollow faces. The plumper prosthesis successfully improved the patient’s appearance to the extent that comfort and function would permit and encourage self-esteem.

Preservation of tooth structure has always been the prime aim of dental practice. Teeth with advanced periodontal disease in multirooted teeth often pose a significant challenge to the clinician, complicating the treatment plan and compromising long term prognosis. The outcome of the treatment is determined by proper case selection and surgical, endodontic and prosthetic parameters. Resective and regenerative osseous procedures are often employed to help preserve the tooth structure, alveolar bone involving the retained root of multirooted teeth and are cost effective over the other treatment options like ridge preservation/augmentation followed by implant placement. This case series describes application of resective and regenerative techniques for molars with extensive combined periodontal-endodontic disease.

PurposeVocal fold motion impairment (VFMI) can be the result of iatrogenic or traumatic injury or may be idiopathic in nature. It can result in glottic incompetence leading to changes in vocal quality and ease. Associated voice complaints may include breathiness, roughness, diplophonia, reduced vocal intensity, feeling out of breath with talking, and vocal fatigue with voice use. A comprehensive interprofessional voice evaluation includes auditory-perceptual voice evaluation, laryngeal examination including videostroboscopy, acoustic and aerodynamic voice measures. These components provide valuable insight into laryngeal structure and function and individual voice use patterns and, in conjunction with stimulability testing, help identify candidacy for voice therapy and choice of therapeutic techniques.ConclusionA comprehensive, interprofessional evaluation of patients with VFMI is necessary to assess the role of voice therapy and develop a treatment plan. Although there is no efficacy data to support specific voice therapy techniques for treating VFMI, considerations for various techniques are provided.

Abstract With technology scaling of semiconductor devices and further growth of the integrated circuit (IC) design and function complexity, it is necessary to increase the number of transistors in IC’s chip, layer stacks, and process steps. The last few metal layers of Back End Of Line (BEOL) are usually very thick metal lines (>4μm thickness) and protected with hard Silicon Dioxide (SiO2) material that is formed from (TetraEthyl OrthoSilicate) TEOS as Inter-Metal Dielectric (IMD). In order to perform physical failure analysis (PFA) on the logic or memory, the top thick metal layers must be removed. It is time-consuming to deprocess those thick metal and IMD layers using conventional PFA workflows. In this paper, the Fast Laser Deprocessing Technique (FLDT) is proposed to remove the BEOL thick and stubborn metal layers for memory PFA. The proposed FLDT is a cost-effective and quick way to deprocess a sample for defect identification in PFA.

INTRODUCTION: Novel concept known as tissue engineering is for the betterment of human. The use of much advanced molecular science and cell biology in processing the tissues to regenerate even after the loss of inborn tendency of pluripotent cells to multiply is possible by this new therapy. CONTENT: Periodontal tissue regeneration in both height and function is attributed to a complete recovery of the periodontal structures, that is, the formation of alveolar bone, a new connective attachment through collagen fibers as well as functionally oriented on the newly formed cementum is regeneration. Cell based therapies including tissue regeneration is an alternative approach for the regeneration of tissues damaged by disease or trauma. SUMMARY: Though tissue engineering requires the fundamentals of all the three keys namely genomics, proteomics and biometrics to give the solutions to biological problems appearing in dentistry as well as medical sciences.

Primary cell cultures from wild organisms have been gaining relevance in ecotoxicology as they are considered more sensitive than immortalized cell lines and retain the biochemical pathways found in vivo. In this study, the efficacy of two methods for primary hepatocyte cell isolation was compared using liver from two marine fish (Sparus aurata and Psetta maxima): (i) two-step collagenase perfusion and (ii) pancreatin digestion with modifications. Cell cultures were incubated in L-15 medium at 17 ± 1 °C and monitored for up to six days for cell viability and function using the trypan blue exclusion test, MTT test, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity, and ethoxyresorufin O-deethylase (EROD) activity after Benzo[a]Pyrene exposure. The results showed significant differences between the number of viable cells (p < 0.05), the highest number being obtained for the pancreatin digestion method (average = 4.5 ± 1.9 × 107 cells). Moreover, the hepatocytes showed solid adherence to the culture plate and the rounded shape, changing into a triangular/polygonal shape. The cell viability and function obtained by pancreatin digestion were maintained for five days, and the EROD induction after exposure to the B[a]P showed that cells were metabolically active. This study shows that the optimized pancreatin digestion method is a valid, cost-effective, and simple alternative to the standard perfusion method for the isolation of primary hepatocytes from fish and is suitable for ecotoxicological studies involving marine pollutants, such as PAHs.

Abstract Background: The incisors and molars play a major role in the formation and function of permanent dentition. Much research has been devoted to investigating the eruption of teeth and their root development. Aim: To study the root development of permanent incisors and mandibular molars in correlation with treatment plan and proper treatment protocols. Materials and methods: The Demirjian’s method was used to assess the root development of incisors and mandibular molars in children between 7 and 12 years old. Results: In 7-year-old children most of the lower first mandibular molars (76%) had complete root length, but open apices. Eighty-two percent of the roots of the first mandibular molars of the 8-year-old children and 54% of these molars of the 9-year-old children were with open apices. The first mandibular molars had incomplete roots in the 10-year-olds (6%) and even in the 11-year-old children (4%). We detected Stage E in 32% of the 10-year-olds and in 24% of the 11-year-old children. Even in 12-year-old children we found Stage E in 4% of them from their panoramic X-rays. We detected complete root development in all of the children at the age of 12. Conclusions: Dental practitioners have to wait until the age of 10, 11 and even 12 to extract the first molars, when the furcation is formed. Proper clinical examination and diagnostic radiographs should be done before the beginning of the treatment of molars and incisors at the age between 7 and 12.

This paper is studying influence of new technologies on city development with accent on socio-spatial dimension. The primary goal of the paper is to point out the reflections of earlier ideas in the context of modern technological processes in cities. All social, technical and technological components of a community, and finally civilization, are reflected within space of the city. Although having remained the greatest consumer of many material goods, city has also become a ‘’producer’’ of many technical-technological and spiritual values of civilization. Taking into account acceleration of phenomena in the world of technology and technology featuring modernity, it reasonably brings a question on realistic chance for prediction of their further course and related social changes that are about to cause it. In many scenarios of urban future, one can sense the idea of a city as a result of high technological achievements of civilization. Special attention is paid on informational city which, connecting a lot of people into systems of interactive information technology change the way of their mutual communication, as well as their social life and culture of behaviour. Measure of organization and function of city is set by telecommunication technologies, information, and computers. If city is a ‘’print of a society in space’’, then a contemporary moment refers to ‘’digitalization’’ of human beings, digitalization of their interactions, new aesthetics, value and other criteria. The tendency of this paper is to contribute to the understanding of new technologies on 21st century cities interpreted primarily through the prism of certain theoretical and experimental ideas and concepts of the 20th century.

Currently, aesthetics, and especially the smile, adds considerable social value. In this way, patients suffering from dental loss wish that their rehabilitation be performed quickly and safely. The aim of oral rehabilitation is to restore masticatory, phonetic, aesthetic and quality of life to the patient. The diagnostic step is one of the most important and relevant steps in establishing a correct treatment plan and, in this way, it is possible to obtain excellent results. The present study aimed to demonstrate the importance of diagnostic waxing in oral rehabilitation. Patient sought treatment at the Dental Prosthesis Specialization Course at Odonto School, due to complaints associated with aesthetics and function. To improve their quality of life, planning of case was carried out through diagnostic waxing and a prosthetic solution was proposed. At the end of treatment and during the follow-up of the case, the patient reported satisfaction and significant improvement in quality of life. It can be concluded that the diagnostic waxing presents customized solutions offering, through a previous study, an effective clinical resolution to the patient. Keywords: Mouth Rehabilitation. Dessa forma, ao sofrerem a perda dental, os pacientes desejam que sua reabilitação seja realizada de forma rápida e segura. A reabilitação oral tem como objetivo devolver ao paciente a eficiência mastigatória, fonética, estética e a qualidade de vida. A etapa diagnóstica constitui um dos passos mais importantes e relevantes no estabelecimento de um correto planejamento do tratamento e, desta forma, torna-se possível obter resultados de excelência. O presente estudo teve como objetivo demonstrar a importância do enceramento diagnóstico na reabilitação oral. Paciente procurou tratamento no Curso de Especialização em Prótese Dentária da Odonto School, devido a queixas associadas a estética e função. Para melhorar sua qualidade de vida, foi realizado o planejamento do caso por meio do enceramento diagnóstico e uma solução protética foi proposta. Ao final do tratamento e durante o acompanhamento do caso, a paciente relatou satisfação e melhora significativa na qualidade de vida. Pode-se concluir que o enceramento diagnóstico apresenta soluções personalizadas oferecendo, por meio de estudo prévio, uma resolução clínica efetiva ao paciente. Palavras-chave: Reabilitação Bucal. ABSTRACT Complications and pitfalls are unavoidable sequel of any surgical procedure. Although advances have been made in surgical techniques and fixation devices, these are far from ideal. The aim of trauma surgeon is to restore the patient to pre-injury form and function, but it may not be possible in each and every case. Treatment failure and poor outcome in a case of severe maxillofacial trauma is not uncommon. This is mainly dependent upon the extent of injury, delay in management, improper diagnosis, wrong treatment plan, poor execution of a treatment plan, wrong choice of fixation devices, inexperience of the surgeon and inability to seek help from other specialists, etc. The objective of this article is to discuss and analyze common complications and pitfalls along with the various methods and modalities to prevent and manage it.
