The aim of this work is threefold: first, to show how, in the context of the gentrification process in the city of Banaras (now Varanasi) in India, social networking, and in particular WhatsApp video calls, make up an attempt by young sex workers in the red-light district (i.e., Shivdaspur) to overcome the spatial entrapment, physical and identity displacement issues resulting from the policies of “beautification,” and urban development of the city. For young sex workers, information and communication technology represents an opportunity toward an unprecedented self-reflexive drive which, beyond a misrecognition of their profession and the symbolic violence it represents, could reinforce their understanding of the outside world to position themselves better within their surrounding society; second, to describe the testimony of older sex workers, according to whom, the Internet “normalizes” sexual violence on a national scale where it is strictly connected to the spread of pornography on the web; finally, to analyze, through an emic approach based on informal interviews, the complexities and potentiality of the information and communication technology for development in this context to shed more light on the design of research and intervention.

Practical Implications

This paper studies whether and how information and communication technology (ICT) changes self-construal and cultural values in a developing country. Ethiopian children were given laptops in the context of an ICT for development scheme. We compared children who used laptops (n = 69) with a control group without laptops (n = 76) and a second control group of children whose laptop had broken down (n = 24). Results confirmed that after 1 year of laptop usage, the children’s self-concept had become more independent and children endorsed individualist values more strongly. Interestingly, the impact of laptop usage on cultural values was mediated by self-construal (moderated mediation). Importantly, modernization did not “crowd out” traditional culture: ICT usage was not associated with a reduction in traditional expressions (interdependent self-construal, collectivist values). Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

In order to promote utilizing the available resource made in any library information has to be taken to the door step of a clientele a such information and communication technology will serve as a catalyst in doing that. Penguasaan terhadap Teknologi Informasi dan Komunikasi perlu diajarkan pada semua tingkatan agar suatu proses dan kegiatan dapat dilakukan dengan lebih cepat, mudah dan efisien. Para siswa kelas XII SMK Taruna Bangsa dituntut untuk memiliki kompetensi yang dapat dikuasai sebelum lulus sekolah. Salah satunya kompetensi adalah dapat membuat website atau aplikasi berbasis web. Disamping itu, kepala program jurusan RPL SMK Taruna Bangsa menyampaikan perlu adanya pendalaman dan pengetahuan lebih dalam pembuatan website selain yang dibekali di sekolah seperti mendesain website front end. Oleh karena itu perlu dilakukan pelatihan mendesain website menggunakan framework Bootstrap. Pelaksanaan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) ini dijalankan sesuai dengan wujud implementasi MoU yang telah dilakukan antara SMK Taruna Bangsa dengan Universitas Bina Insani. Pelaksanaan kegiatan pada masa pandemi Covid-19 dilakukan secara online melalui media konferensi www.zoom.us dan www.youtube.com. Kegiatan ini diikuti oleh 78 peserta dengan hasil akhir memberikan hasil yang positif, ditunjukkan pada umpan balik peserta terhadap materi yaitu pada nilai 4 (Baik) sebesar 32,1% dan nilai 5 (Sangat Baik) sebesar 60.7%. Berdasarkan paparan tersebut kegiatan PkM ini telah memberikan kemampuan dan penguasaan terhadap siswa dalam mendesain website dan memiliki bekal dalam mengimplementasikan pada bidang Teknologi informasi yang pada akhirnya mendorong smart education kota Bekasi. Kata kunci—bootstrap, pengabdian kepada masyarakat, website Mastery of Information and Communication Technology needs to be taught at all levels so that processes and activities can be carried out more quickly, easily and efficiently. Class XII students of SMK Taruna Bangsa are required to have competencies that can be mastered before graduating from school. One of the competencies is being able to create a website or web-based application. In addition, the head of the RPL department program at SMK Taruna Bangsa said that there is a need for more in-depth and knowledge in making websites other than those provided in schools such as designing front end websites. Therefore, training in designing websites using the Bootstrap framework is necessary. The implementation of Community Service (PkM) is carried out in accordance with the implementation of the MoU that has been carried out between SMK Taruna Bangsa and Bina Insani University. The implementation of activities during the Covid-19 pandemic was carried out online through the media conference www.zoom.us and www.youtube.com. This activity was attended by 78 participants with the final result giving positive results, shown in the participants' feedback on the material, namely a value of 4 (Good) of 32.1% and a value of 5 (Very Good) of 60.7%. Based on the explanation, this PkM activity has given students the ability and mastery in designing websites and has provisions in implementing it in the field of information technology which ultimately encourages smart education in the city of Bekasi. <p>Market performance is important to the company's development. This study examines the determinant factors of market performance through information and communication technology (ICT). The probability and simple random sampling methods were used to determine the sample. Furthermore, the research instrument was the questionnaire distributed personally to the respondents. The results show that the market performance of used car showroom MSMEs in the Malang was determined both directly and indirectly by information quality, eReadiness, use of ICTs, and market orientation, which is more dominant. The use of ICTs and market orientation fully and partially mediates the information quality and eReadiness on market performance, respectively.</p>

Globalization is the increasing interaction of peoples, states or countries through the growth of the global trade, international flow of capital, ideas and culture. The paper discusses how privatization of public corporations and invention of information and communication technology (ICT) lead to the retrenchment and casualization of public servant. The aim of this study is to examines the impact of globalization on the public servant in Nigeria. The methodology involves the use of secondary data, through a systematic literature review which entails the document analysis of related matters. The findings reveal that globalization infringes on the right of a public servant by making them vulnerable without job security. The paper concludes that government must stop unfair labor practice such as retrenchment and casualization of workers, and improve good working conditions to make public servant more productive.

The Impact

Due to the accelerated pace of information and communication technology developments, the digital society and the digital economy have become real and, in turn, pose specific challenges. In this environment, digital skills and competences are essential to achieve the professional success and personal development of any individual. The positive impact that information and communication technology has on education cannot be disputed, but there are also some obstacles that need to be overcome in order to make the most of these benefits. An essential aspect to consider is that technology has repercussions not only on pupils and students, but also on teachers, who must adapt and acquire the knowledge necessary to disseminate information. Having as the main objective of reflecting the impact of digitalization on the educational sector, the paper highlights the basic concepts in the field of digital technology and, at the same time, the current implications on educational processes. At the same time, through logistic regression, the way in which the means of digital innovation influence the education in Romania is analysed and to determine the factors with the highest degree of influence. Modern technology can be considered as synonymous with the future and that is why it is essential that all young students acquire the digital knowledge necessary to revolutionize the educational process and at the same time redefine the recruitment of the labour market.
