Under the background of the continuous impact of new media, with the deepening of art education reform, more creative teaching thinking and teaching methods are integrated into the art design education classroom in universities. In the continuous progress of art design major, how to change the traditional art education classroom and make the teaching more innovative has become one of the research contents that the teaching workers focus on. Therefore, in order to export interdisciplinary talents to the society, it is an inevitable trend for universities to act interdisciplinary teaching and learning mode in combination with the background of new engineering and the widely used STEAM concept. This paper analyzes the teaching mode of art design major in higher education, and then analyzes the current situation of engineering practice courses in universities. According to the characteristics of art students and engineering students, it explores the interdisciplinary teaching mode of introducing art design elements into engineering practice courses, which can provide the orderly development of art education with reference in universities.

Engineering practice and design in particular have gone through several changes during the last two decades whether due to scientific achievements including the evolution in novel engineering materials, computational advancements, globalization and economic constraints as well as the strategic needs which are the drive for innovative engineering. All these factors have impacted and shaped to certain extent the educational system in North America and Canada in particular. Currently, high percentage of the engineering graduates would require extensive training in industry to be able to conduct reliable complex engineering designs supported by scientific verification and validation, understand the complete design stages and phases, and identify the economic and cultural impact on such designs. This task, however, faces great challenges without educational support in such vastly changing economy.Lots of attention has been devoted to engineering design education in the recent years to incorporate engineering design courses supported by team design projects and capstone projects. Nevertheless, the lack of integrated education system towards engineering design programs can undermine the benefits of such efforts. In this paper, observations and analysis of the challenges in engineering design are presented from both academic and industrial points of view. Furthermore, a proposed vertical and lateral engineering education program is discussed. This program is structured to cover every year of the engineering education curricula, which emphasizes on innovative thinking, design strategies, support from and integration with other technical engineering courses, the use of advanced analysis tools, team collaboration, management and leadership, multidisciplinary education and industrial involvement. Its courses have just commenced for freshmen engineering students at the newly launched Mechanical Engineering Department at the Lassonde School of Engineering, York University.

Art design is a major driver of the development of culture and art, modern science and technology, and social economy. As a result, art design education has been greatly valued and attached great importance. However, art design education in China falls behind the development of social economy and art design. To solve the problem, this paper attempts to innovate art design education in China in the new era. Firstly, the authors investigated the current situation of art design education in China, and discovered a few problems: the chaotic teaching mode, the unreasonable curriculum setting, the mismatch between graduate capabilities and social requirements, and the undiversified teaching evaluation method. In response to these problems, art design education was renovated from the aspects of curriculum system setting, teaching mode, and teaching evaluation. On this basis, the authors proposed to set the curriculum system based on professional ability, and designed a topic-based and workplace-oriented teaching mode with art design studio as the platform. Finally, the innovation methods for teaching evaluation were discussed in terms of evaluation subject, evaluation standard, and evaluation method. The research findings provide a theoretical and practical reference for the innovation of art design education.

ssemination and development of information has occurred, and this has had a positive impact on audiences. Research on the integration and develop-ment of traditional media with new media is recent, and has been focused, across the world, on the educational context. This study most specifically looks at art education. Or art teachers in further and higher education, the use of electronic media may not only lead to better work, creatively, but al-so more efficient real-time interaction, and the more effective collection of student feedback. Modern students’ lifestyles and the teaching environment they are subject to, have created the basis for convergence media; within such an environment, cultural knowledge can be more quickly and conven-iently accessed. Based on an analysis of innovative art education teaching methods within this era of convergent media, this paper proposes a design framework for the sharing of such high-quality teaching resources and the design of a shared teaching platform; these proposals are informed by the use of the ‘extreme value’ method to optimize the allocation of high-quality teaching resources in the framework design during the sharing process. The identification of an objective function can be effective in this context. The participation of an objective function within resource allocation can better guarantee that the best teachers can arrange the teaching programs that are most effective for particular courses --- so that high-quality teaching pro-grams can be better spread across the media available and so that the stu-dents can better accept and absorb this new teaching mode.

The blended teaching has not been well implemented in art design major courses of colleges. Neither has the performance of this teaching mode in course teaching been correctly evaluated. To solve the problem, this paper attempts to design suitable blended teaching strategies for art design major courses in colleges. To this end, a theoretical analysis was carried out on how blended teaching promotes the effects of modern art design education and course teaching. On this basis, several strategies were presented to implement blended teaching in art design major courses of colleges. From the perspec-tive of engineering application, the authors established an evaluation index system and an evaluation analysis model for the performance of blended teaching in art design major courses, and thereby managed to quantify the teaching performance. The research results provide a theoretical basis and a practical solution for the implementation of blended teaching in art design major courses.

As science and technology develops faster and faster, the accumulation of knowledge is exponential over time. Engineering education must keep up with the changing environment including engineering practice. As each individual’s capability is limited, engineering students need choosing right stuff to learn so that they can graduate as qualified engineers with both broad knowledge and practical skills as required in industry. In this paper, the current engineering education is discussed with some trends, such as creativity training as most have insisted in project-based hands-on design education, broad knowledge including essential engineering science knowledge. As a comprehensive discipline, design engineering courses exist to teach engineering design fundamental. Due to immature design theory and methodology, the “learning by doing” approach is widely accepted to complement current engineering design education. In this paper, an integrated effort is introduced which combines together the two basic aspects, knowledge and skill, in order to increase the half-life of engineering knowledge and enhance the hands-on skills at the same time. Based on new development in design research, an experimental design education using Product Reverse Engineering (PRE) as education tool, is introduced with initial evaluation for suitability in design education.
