Levels of psychopathology, guilt, perfectionism, and family of origin functioning among a sample of male, Protestant clergy (N = 168) were compared with those of male teachers from public high schools (N = 43) and Christian high schools (N = 51). Data were collected via self-report instruments. Results revealed no significant differences between groups on psychopathology or perfectionism. However, clergy and Christian teachers had significantly higher guilt scores than public high school teachers, but higher guilt was associated with only the Norm Violation subscale. Clergy perceived their family of origin as significantly less healthy than the comparison groups. Some support was found for the “mother dominant/father absent” theory of vocational choice among pastors. Scriptural literalism among pastors was not significantly related to psychopathology, guilt, perfectionism, or family of origin functioning. Implications of the present findings are discussed.

This study examined the relationship between attending one of the nine New York City (NYC) selective specialized public high schools and graduating from an honors college with a science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) degree, compared with honors college graduates who attended any other high school. A causal-comparative study design was applied. The participants consisted of 1,647 graduates from seven honors colleges, from 2011 to 2015, in the northeastern United States. Of the 1,647 graduates, 482 students graduated from NYC selective specialized public high schools and 1,165 students graduated from other high schools. The study found a significant difference ( p < .05) between the two groups. A larger percentage of NYC selective specialized public high schools graduated with a STEM degree from an honors college than students from other high schools. These results support the positive relationship between attending a NYC selective specialized public high school and graduating with a STEM degree from an honors college. Results and implications are discussed.

To analyze the effectiveness of Mennonite religious high schools in transmitting religious values, the Allport-Vernon-Lindzey Study of Values was administered to 124 Canadian high school seniors, 40 from religious Mennonite schools, 56 Mennonites in public schools, and 28 from students at a large public high school. Attending Mennonite private schools made no significant difference in the religious values held by Mennonite high school seniors. Mennonite boys and girls showed significantly higher religious values than a general sample of senior high school boys and girls.

In the study, the random sampling method was employed. The "Personal Information Form" and "Organizational Silence Scale" were used as data collection tools. In the research, descriptive statistics, the independent samples t-test, one-way analysis of variance, and the Kruskal-Wallis test were performed. The general organizational silence perceived by vocational high school teachers was found to be "low." It was revealed that the perceived organizational silence of vocational high school teachers did not vary by gender, educational level, professional seniority, subject, and union membership, while the perceived general organizational silence varied depending on age.

Dimensions of Davids' alienation syndrome, egocentricity, distrust, pessimism, anxiety, and resentment, among Catholic patochial high school males (CHS; N = 40) were comparable to those reported for predominantly Jewish public high school males (PHS; N = 80). These dimensions were assessed by projective and direct techniques. CHS showed no significant differences from PHS on all 3 measures but significantly more variability on the direct test. These startling commonalities among adolescent populations differing in social class and religious affiliation present strong evidence that Catholic high schools are not immune to the winds of change sweeping our universities and public high schools. Future research should determine whether these dimensions of alienation represent a normative trend, a transitory phenomena or a deviant aspect of psychological development among modern adolescents.

ObjectivesTo evaluate the impact of a patient-specific national programme targeting older Australians and health professionals that aimed to increase use of emollient moisturisers to reduce to the risk of skin tears.DesignA prospective cohort intervention.ParticipantsThe intervention targeted 52 778 Australian Government’s Department of Veterans’ Affairs patients aged over 64 years who had risk factors for wound development, and their general practitioners (GPs) (n=14 178).Outcome measuresAn interrupted time series model compared the rate of dispensing of emollients in the targeted cohort before and up to 23 months after the intervention. Commitment questions were included in self-report forms.ResultsIn the first month after the intervention, the rate of claims increased 6.3-fold (95% CI: 5.2 to 7.6, p<0.001) to 10 emollient dispensings per 1000 patients in the first month after the intervention. Overall, the intervention resulted in 10 905 additional patient-months of treatment. The increased rate of dispensing among patients who committed to talking to their GP about using an emollient was six times higher (rate ratio: 6.2, 95% CI: 4.4 to 8.7) than comparison groups.ConclusionsThe intervention had a sustained effect over 23 months. Veterans who responded positively to commitment questions had higher uptake of emollients than those who did not.

This qualitative case study explored the unique ways recent college graduates serving as full-time, near-peer mentors supported students along the path to college in three different urban public high schools. By applying the theory of figured worlds to school spaces and practices, this study sought to both define the physical and figurative ways mentors helped students envision and enact college-bound identities and compare and contrast the differences in these spaces across schools. Data and thematic analysis indicate that promoting the development and enactment of college-bound identities requires intentionality about how school culture, people, and policies enable real and figurative spaces for college-bound exploration and support.
