One of the world's most enduring organizational forms, the university, enters the third millennium facing many challenges. Recent decades have seen the relationship of the university to the state and the commercial world change and mutate rapidly. The closely guarded concepts of academic freedom and autonomy have become threatened and some might say compromised. As state and corporate support is predicated upon explicit accountability and transparency of functioning, universities have had to enter and adopt the quality model to justify their activities. This article argues that while the objectives of the quality movement are praiseworthy, the validity of the application of crude quality metrics to the complex functioning of a university, particularly in relation to teaching, is suspect. It warns against the naive adoption of managerialist rhetoric and methods and calls for a more holistic and sophisticated approach to the measurement of university processes.

AbstractThis thematic issue of Itinerario brings together a selection of papers presented at the international conference Beyond the Islamicate Chancery: Archives, Paperwork, and Textual Encounters across Eurasia, which was held at the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna in early October 2018. The conference was the third instalment in a series of collaborations between the Institute of Iranian Studies at the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the University of Pittsburgh examining Islamicate cultures of documentation from different angles. Surviving precolonial and colonial chancery archives across Eurasia provide an unparalleled glimpse into the inner workings of connectivity across writing cultures and, especially, documentary practices. This particular meeting has attempted to situate what has traditionally been a highly technical discipline in a broader historical dialogue on the relationship between state power, the archive, and cultural encounters.

The change in educational paradigms has led to the need to define new methodological regulations that allow to consider the objects of pedagogical reality from a different angle. This led to the need to study traditional issues of pedagogy in an innovative context. The issue of forming students’ independent learning activities is not new for pedagogy. However, we present it from the perspective of an integrative-reflexive approach, which allowed us to identify its internal potential for personal development. The theoretical methods of pedagogical research used in the study: analysis, synthesis, comparison, generalization, method of causal relationships research, etc., which allowed to mentally penetrate into the essence of the studied pedagogical phenomenon and rethink it in a new educational reality. It is established that the educational independent activity accumulates the reflexive and didactic potential for professional and personal formation and development in the process of studying at the university. The possibilities of reflexive discourse as a way of realizing the reflexive-didactic potential of educational independent activity in the learning process are determined. According to the structure of the process of reflection in educational independent activity we distinguish the stages of reflexive discourse: reflexive-indicative, reflexive-presentative and reflexive-realizational. We consider the relationship of these stages of the discourse with various types of reflection and features of self-assessment, self-analysis, self-design and self-realization as structural components of educational independent activity.

This paper aims at investigating the relationship between the application of innovation and entrepreneurship system and the university competitive advantage in the Jordanian higher education sector.     To collect the required data, the number of some concerned individuals was surveyed through a carefully designed questionnaire that has become the main instrument to obtain the required data.A random sample of university managerial staff was withdrawn from five private Jordanian universities. The collected data was audited, reviewed and statically analyzed using the most relevant statistical test. The results of the statistical analysis have clearly pointed out that university adoption of innovation and entrepreneurship system has a significant effect on its competitive advantage.

An investigation is conducted on the effect of financial distress on customer service levels in the U.S. airline industry. Using data from the first quarter of 1998 to the third quarter of 2006, we employ a seemingly unrelated regressions (SUR) model to analyze the impact of financial distress on three measures of customer service. We find that higher financial distress is associated with better on-time performance of airlines and fewer lost bags. The relationship of airline financial distress to the number of bumped customers, however, is insignificant.

The study aimed is to examine the relationship of brand image and service quality towards student loyaltyin purchasing at a university shop, namely UniShop, in the southern state of Malaysia. By understandingstudent loyalty, the university management might encourage students to shop at the UniShop and generaterevenues within the campus. The decreasing sales of UniShop are affected by a hypermarket located withinwalking distance to the university in August 2017. From the literature, the entrance of multinationalcompanies might affect the small companies surrounding them, including UniShop which is a smallenterprise. Thus, the research examined student loyalty in purchasing at UniShop by distributingquestionnaires to the students of the university. The researchers used proportionate stratified randomsampling to generalize the finding across all semester students in the university. The findings showed thatbrand image and service quality played an important role in student loyalty. Students were the maincustomers of a university shop, contributed most of the shop’s business sustainability, and generate indirectincome to the university. In order to maintain student loyalty, UniShop has to take some initiatives includingto increase the scale of products, focuses on student-centered services, improve the shop layout, and sellexclusive university merchandise to increase the student's self-belonging to the university products. The critical edition of the correspondence (1665-1675), today housed at the University of Genoa library, between the Genoan patrician Nicolò Cavana and the bibliophile Fra' Angelico Aprosio di Ventimiglia includes an introduction and transcription of the letters, with both bibliographical and (where possible) explanatory notes on some now outdated terms. In consideration of the private nature of the 286 letters, reading them gives an interesting and informal view of seventeenth-century life, as well as much information on the variegated world of the Baroque book culture providing a constant backdrop to the relationship of collaboration and friendship between the two figures.

A formal approximate solution is derived for the profile and velocity components of a wave with permanent form of finite height m moderate water depths. The approximation is carried to the third order, sufficiently far to represent all except the very high "design" waves. The relationship of the formulas to others found in the literature is discussed. The wavelengths and the coefficients in the third-order series for the wave profile, and the water particle velocities and local accelerations are tabulated for approximately 2000 waves. The depths, heights, and periods for the listed wave conditions vary respectively from 10 to 500 feet, 5 to 40 feet, and 4 to 20 seconds. The range of applicability of the theory is discussed and approximate limits estimated. As an aid in calculations, tables of the trigonometric and hyperbolic sines and cosines for integral multiples of the argument are included.

The article reflects the diversity of views on the concept of "legal axiom". It is clarified that there are lawyers who deny the existence of the concept of "axiom" in law. It is presented that some scholars identify legal axioms with legal customs in terms of content, formulation and existence, as well as methods of provision. It is revealed that legal axioms have common features and differences with legal presumptions. It is emphasized that the legal presumption and legal axiom are understood as true without evidence. It is considered that the difference between a legal presumption and a legal axiom lies in the difference of circumstances: they allow to consider them plausible; possibilities (impossibilities) of refutation; significance, content and form It is demonstrated that there are several approaches to the relationship of legal axioms with the principles of law. It has been found that the first group of scholars identify the principles of law and axioms. Attention is drawn to the fact that the second group of scholars notes that axioms are prerequisites for the principles of law. It is presented that the representatives of the third group distinguish between the concepts of principles of law and legal axioms. It has been shown that the complex interrelationships of principles and axioms are reflected in their dialectical unity, their ability to pass from one to another, and the disclosure of one phenomenon through another. It is noted that axioms are subject to change, so axioms and presumptions are closely interrelated and under certain conditions can replace each other. The definition of legal axioms has been further considered. Legal axioms are a multifaceted complex phenomenon of legal reality related to law, legal awareness and legal science. regularities, properties of special legal principles of law and serve to simplify legal regulation.

National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was launched on 29 September 2015 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India to rank the academic & research institutions across the country. The NIRF E-release of India Ranking 2020 was held on 11th June 2020. The present study analyses the top 100 Universities in terms of visualisation of data, the relationship of ranking with the parameters, and the relations among these parameters. Results of the study indicate that the Teaching, Learning & Resources (TLR) score for all the universities was almost similar while Research and Professional Practice (RP) score had a considerable variation and played a significant role in ranking by having a positive linear correlation with the total score with the value of R2= 0.746. RP also has a strong correlation with the Peer Perception (PR) of the university. The average library expenditure of top-10 universities was 9.45 crore per annum. It was also found that library expenditure has a positive correlation with RP and the universities with higher research productivity also have a more outstanding quality of publication in terms of citations.

One of the essential characteristics of the order of virgins is the strong spiritual and canonical bond with the Particular Church and the bishop. The aim of the article is to present the issue of consecrated virgins in relation to the Particular Church in the canon and liturgical aspect. Its first part presents the place of the order of consecrated virgins in the Particular Church. The second part outlines the relationship of the diocesan bishop with consecrated virgins, while the third part is devoted to the service of consecrated virgins for the Diocese. The article ends with a summary and bibliography.
