In order to establish the design method of a noncircular face gear (NFG) with intersecting axes, the meshing theory of this gear is investigated based on the principle of space gear meshing. A generalized approach for designing closed pitch curve of the NFG with intersecting axes was proposed based on Fourier series. The mathematical model of the NFG generated by a shaper cutter was established. The fundamental design parameters of the gears were defined, with the principle for determining their values discussed. The prototype of a NFG was machined by 5-axis CNC milling and the motion rule was tested. Experimental results verify the feasibility of the innovative transmission mechanism and the correctness of the mathematical model of NFG with intersecting axes.

By referring to the mathematical model to design strip wound die based on fatigue theory which was already established by the authors, the design method is put forwards and the software is developed by using C language, in order to determine the design parameters such as winding prestress, winding layers and winding tension. Investigations into the influence of design parameters on die performance were conducted by employ orthogonal test method. According to the calculations, the order of design parameters can be concluded: firstly, allowable safety factor named [n]; secondly, friction coefficient named f; thirdly, thickness of strip named t. The most important factor is allowable safety factor named [n].

A kind of special energy aggregation structure is analyzed. The special structure can gather electromagnetic energy. The paper summarizes features of the structure and indicates that the structure is a fractal. By analyzing the fractal characteristics, deduces the math iterative that can produce the parameter matrix of the structure. Mathematical model is done for this special energy aggregation structure. A special energy aggregation structure is designed by the mathematical model. The experimental results proved that the sample has functions of gathering electromagnetic energy. The results prove that the mathematical model for the special energy aggregation structure is built correctly and effectively. The paper provides the basis of mathematical analysis for researching on energy aggregation and transmission mechanism of this structure.

Abstract To solve the manufacturing difficulties of non-orthogonal face gear, an efficient gear machining method referred to as power skiving is proposed. The machining principle of the power skiving and the relative position between the cutter tool and the workpiece are analyzed. Then, the mathematical model of machining non-orthogonal face gears by power skiving is established and the tooth flank equation is obtained. The installation and movement mode of non-orthogonal face gears on six-axis machine tool are analyzed and the machining parameters are calculated precisely. A method of tooth flank modification on the six-axis machine tool is presented by changing the machining parameters. The meshing performance of the obtained non-orthogonal face gear is analyzed by an example. Finally, the processing test and the tooth flank measurement are carried out. The experimental results show that the non-orthogonal face gear can be machined and modified by power skiving on the proposed six-axis machine tool.

Dynamic balance of the spatial engine is researched. By considering the special wobble-plate engine as the model of spatial RRSSC linkages, design variables on the engine structure are confirmed based on the configuration characters and kinetic analysis of wobble-plate engine. In order to control the vibration of the engine frame and to decrease noise caused by the spatial engine, objective function is choosed as the dimensionless combinations of the various shaking forces and moments, the restriction condition of which presents limiting the percent of shaking moment. Then the optimization design is investigated by the mathematical model for dynamic balance. By use of the optimization design method to a type of wobble-plate engine, the optimization process as an example is demonstrated, it shows that the optimized design method benefits to control vibration and noise on the engines and improve the performance practically and theoretically.

The mathematical model of conformal antenna array is the premise and basis of the conformal array antenna signal processing. Based on the analysis of the antenna array, a design method for adjusting the direction of the conformal array antenna is proposed. Through simulation, the pattern of antenna meets the actual needs of the project and it reaches pre design requirements.

In this paper, an active design method of meshing line for a spiral bevel gear mechanism with nonrelative sliding is presented. First, the general meshing line equations for a nonrelative sliding transmission mechanism between two orthogonal axes are proposed based on the active design parameters. Then, parametric equations for contact curves on the drive and driven spiral bevel gears are deduced by coordinate transformation of the meshing line equations. Further to this, parametric equations for the tooth surface of each bevel gear are derived according to the conical spiral motion of a generatrix circle along the calculated contact curves. Finally, a set of numerical examples is presented based on two types of motion equation of the meshing points. Material prototypes are fabricated and experimentally tested to validate the kinematic performance of the functionally designed spiral bevel gear set.

The compound transmission mechanism of curve-face gear is a new type of gear transmission based on the cam mechanism and the curve-face gear pair. It combines the transmission characteristics of the cam mechanism and noncircular bevel gear. When the compound transmission mechanism of curve-face gear is engaged in the meshing transmission, the rotating center of the cylindrical gear is fixed and used as the driving wheel, and the curve-face gear can generate the helical motion around the axis. In this paper, the meshing characteristics and motion laws of the compound transmission mechanism of the curve-face gear are studied based on the theory of screw. Based on the meshing theory of gears, the coordinate system of conjugate surfaces is established, the basic meshing theory and equation are obtained. On this basis, combined with the principle of the cam, the transmission principle is analyzed by the screw theory. The tooth surface equation of the compound transmission mechanism of curve-face gear is deduced based on the meshing theory and the related knowledge of geometry. The motion law of the curve-face gear and the change of the motion law with the change of the basic parameters of the gear pair with different design parameters are calculated and analyzed. An experimental platform is built to verify the law of motion, and the experimental results are compared with the theoretical values. The correctness of the theoretical analysis is verified, which provides a new way for the research of the compound transmission mechanism of the curve-face gear.

This study presents the Taguchi design method with L9 orthogonal array which was carried out to optimize the flux-cored arc welding (FCAW) process parameters such as welding current, welding voltage, welding speed, and torch angle with reference to vertical for the ferrite content of duplex stainless steel (DSS, UNS S32205) welds. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) was applied, and a mathematical model was developed to predict the effect of process parameters on the responses. The results indicate that welding current, welding voltage, welding speed, torch angle with reference to vertical, and the interaction of welding voltage and welding speed are the significant model terms connected with the ferrite content. The ferrite content increases with the increase of welding speed and torch angle with reference to vertical, but decreases with the increase of welding current and welding voltage. Through the developed mathematical model, the target of 50% ferrite content in weld metal can be obtained when all the welding parameters are set at the optimum values. Finally, in order to validate experimental results, confirmation tests were implemented at optimum working conditions. Under these conditions, there was good accordance between the predicted and the experimental results for the ferrite content.
