Comparative experimental and numerical study on energy consumption of track-pin rubber bushing for high-speed tracked vehicles

During the running of high-speed tracked vehicles, the energy loss due to the rotation and tension-compression deformation of the rubber bushing between the track pin and the track plate causes the largest proportion of energy consumption in tracked vehicle propulsion systems; therefore, it is critical to study energy consumption of this component as it is the largest amount of energy loss of the system. First, the theoretical modeling and analysis of the torsional hysteresis and the tension-lag of the hanging glue on the pin of the track pin are conducted. Both energy loss of torsional hysteresis and energy loss of the hysteresis of tension and pressure are obtained when the rubber bushings pass the sprocket, the road wheel, and the idler. Second, a new and novel rubber bushing model based upon the rubber bushing elastic element, the friction element, and the viscoelastic element is proposed. Then the parameters (such as the static elastic stiffness and the maximum friction) of each unit are identified according to the dynamic characteristic experiment. Finally, the numerical simulation results of MATLAB with different stiffness and damping coefficient in addition to tension and compression energy consumption under different frequencies are obtained, and the comparisons are basically consistent with the experimental results; the average errors are less than 8%. The present analytical calculation model is practically useful and can meet the requirements of engineering applications.

Monte-Carlo programs are well recognized for their ability to model electron beam interactions with samples, and to incorporate boundary conditions such as compositional or surface variations which are difficult to handle analytically. This success has been especially powerful for modelling X-ray emission and the backscattering of high energy electrons. Secondary electron emission has proven to be somewhat more difficult, since the diffusion of the generated secondaries to the surface is strongly geometry dependent, and requires analytical calculations as well as material parameters. Modelling of secondary electron yield within a Monte-Carlo framework has been done using multiple scattering programs, but is not readily adapted to the moderately complex geometries associated with samples such as microelectronic devices, etc.This paper reports results using a different approach in which simplifying assumptions are made to permit direct and easy estimation of the secondary electron signal from samples of arbitrary complexity. The single-scattering program which performs the basic Monte-Carlo simulation (and is also used for backscattered electron and EBIC simulation) allows multiple regions to be defined within the sample, each with boundaries formed by a polygon of any number of sides. Each region may be given any elemental composition in atomic percent. In addition to the regions comprising the primary structure of the sample, a series of thin regions are defined along the surface(s) in which the total energy loss of the primary electrons is summed. This energy loss is assumed to be proportional to the generated secondary electron signal which would be emitted from the sample. The only adjustable variable is the thickness of the region, which plays the same role as the mean free path of the secondary electrons in an analytical calculation. This is treated as an empirical factor, similar in many respects to the λ and ε parameters in the Joy model.

Abstract We design and demonstrate an asymmetric Ge/SiGe coupled quantum well (CQW) waveguide modulator for both intensity and phase modulation with a low bias voltage in silicon photonic integration. The asymmetric CQWs consisting of two quantum wells with different widths are employed as the active region to enhance the electro-optical characteristics of the device by controlling the coupling of the wave functions. The fabricated device can realize 5 dB extinction ratio at 1446 nm and 1.4 × 10−3 electrorefractive index variation at 1530 nm with the associated modulation efficiency V π L π of 0.055 V cm under 1 V reverse bias. The 3 dB bandwidth for high frequency response is 27 GHz under 1 V bias and the energy consumption per bit is less than 100 fJ/bit. The proposed device offers a pathway towards a low voltage, low energy consumption, high speed and compact modulator for silicon photonic integrated devices, as well as opens possibilities for achieving advanced modulation format in a more compact and simple frame.

Due to the fast development of high-speed rail (HSR) around the world, high-speed trains (HSTs) are becoming a strong competitor against airliners in terms of long-distance travel. Compared with airliner cabins, HST cabins have much larger window sizes. When the big windows provide better lighting and view of the scenery, they also have significant effects on the thermal conditions in the cabins due to the solar radiation through them. This study presents a numerical study on the solar radiation on the thermal comfort in a typical HST cabin. The effect of solar radiation was discussed in terms of airflow pattern, temperature distribution and thermal comfort indices. Parametric studies with seven different daytime hours were carried out. The effect of using the roller curtain was also studied. The overall cabin air temperature, especially near passengers, was found to have significantly increased by solar radiation. Passengers sitting next to windows were recorded to have an obvious thermal comfort variation at different hours of the day. To improve the passengers’ comfort and reduce energy consumption during hot weather, the use of a curtain could effectively reduce the solar radiation effect in the cabin environment.

AbstractIn this paper, the performance of a novel multilevel signaling based on Manchester code namely four-level Manchester Coding (4-MC) technique is investigated for next generation high-speed optical fiber communication links. The performance of 4-MC is studied and compared with conventional Manchester modulation and four-level pulse amplitude modulation (4-PAM) formats in terms of receiver sensitivity, spectral efficiency and dispersion tolerance at the bit rate of 40 Gb/s. The bit error rate (BER) calculation model for the proposed multilevel scheme has also been developed. The calculated receiver sensitivity and the chromatic dispersion tolerance at the BER of 10–9 of the proposed scheme are −22 dBm and 67.5 ps/nm, respectively. It is observed that, 4-MC scheme is superior in comparison to 4-PAM by 3.5 dB in terms of receiver sensitivity in back-to-back scenario. Therefore, the proposed scheme can be considered as an alternative to current 4-PAM system.

Multiple high speed CMOS cameras composing intersection system to splice large effect field of view(EFV). The key problem of system is how to locate multiple CMOS cameras in suitable position. Effect field of view was determined according to size, quantity and dispersion area of objects, so to determine camera position located on below, both sides and ahead to moving targets. This paper analyzes effect splicing field of view, operating range etc through establishing mathematical model and MATLAB simulation. Location method of system has advantage of flexibility splicing, convenient adjustment, high reliability and high performance-price ratio.
