Parallel streams of theory and research regarding entrepreneurship and careers has led to a dearth of comprehensive theories regarding the careers of entrepreneurs. This article describes four core dimensions of theory that are essential in developing a comprehensive theory of entrepreneurial careers: (1) a theory of career choice; (2) a theory of career socialization; (3) a theory of career orientation; and (4) a theory of career progression from entry to exit. A general model is presented that articulates various aspects of theory building along each of these four dimensions. Implications for both theory and practice regarding entrepreneurial careers is also discussed.

“Enabled theorizing” is a common practice in marketing scholarship. Nevertheless, this practice has recently been criticized for constraining the creation of novel theory. To advance this conversation, we conduct a grounded analysis of papers that feature enabled theorizing with the aim of describing and analyzing how enabled theorizing is practiced. Our analysis suggests that enabled theorizing marries data with analytical tools and ontological perspectives in ways that advance ongoing conversations in marketing theory and practice, as well as informing policy and methods. Based on interviews with marketing and consumer research scholars who practice enabled theorizing, we explain how researchers use enabling theories to shape research projects, how researchers select enabling lenses, and how they negotiate the review process. We discuss the implications of our analyses for theory-building in our field, and we question the notion of originality in relation to theory more generally.

Knowledge of the factors that inform the career choice of medical students may help plan the workforce for medical specialities. To determine which factors inform the career choice of medical students we carried out a survey of medical students at the start of their educational block in Otolaryngology. Of 202 questionnaires handed out 169 were returned (84 per cent). Students were asked to rank factors according to their importance in their career choice. The single most important factor was career progression. Other factors include on-call commitment, teachers as role models, and the interest for a particular subject. At the present time progression from senior house officer grade to specialist registrar grade in Otolaryngology is delayed. If this issue is not addressed the influx of applicants into Otolaryngology training programmes will be reduced, limiting the pool from which candidates can be chosen for a career in Otolaryngology.

It is generally recognized that the last decade or so witnessed a proliferation of studies dealing with different aspects of regional integration. While most of them discussed the origin and history of various international organizations, some, especially those of a more recent vintage, ventured into the thicket of theory building in an effort to engage eventually in some kind of comparative analysis.

Getting work done through other people is management; heterogeneities and complexities are managerial issues. Studies in management in 20th and 21st centuries focused on principles of management and management practices. The management theory jungle continues to be dense and impenetrable. Pessimism rules the roast with organizations perceived as insensitive. There is a divide between theory and practice. Epistemology of management practice and management theory building needs to be understood. HRM processes have to be evaluated along with choice making. Theories have to be self fulfilling by changing conditions under which they work. A number of failure stories have been analyzed, impacting several role holders. Searching for evidence for the various failures have provided live instances of actual situations which have caused trauma to the role holders. Financial scandals along with issues of corporate governance have generated conflict. Reviewing practices one perceives repeat errors perpetuated by managers; they are engaged in handling symptoms rather than curative aspects. Grand exits follow. Managers do not consider it safe and seem to work under such constraints. How long will they wait.

Professional self-determination in adolescence for many years has been one of the hot topics of psychological theory and practice. Research in the field of personal and professional self-determination, career choice, continues to be a priority. Professional self-determination is part of the general process of socialization of adolescents, a necessary condition for their success and competitiveness in today's socio-economic realities. And it raises the question of what should be psychological and educational support in these conditions? Problems of career choice are considered on three sides: in the context of the social situation in which there are modern teenagers; from the perspective of adolescents themselves, choosing the profession; taking into account the peculiarities of psycho-pedagogical support of professional self-determination of teenagers nowadays. Analysis of problems leads us to the possible ways of solving them, and the need to build a new model of career guidance.

Extensive urbanization and the consequent rise of megacities are among the most significant demographic phenomena of our time. Our constitutional institutions and constitutional imagination, however, have not even begun to catch up with the new reality. In this article, I address four dimensions of the great constitutional silence concerning the metropolis: ( a) the tremendous interest in cities throughout much of the social sciences, as contrasted with the meager attention to the subject in constitutional theory and practice; ( b) the right to the city in theory and practice; ( c) a brief account of what national constitutions actually say about cities, and more significantly what they do not; and ( d) the dominant statist stance embedded in national constitutional orders, in particular as it addresses the sovereignty and spatial governance of the polity, as a main explanatory factor for the lack of vibrant constitutional discourse concerning urbanization in general and the metropolis in particular.

Conceptual articles are important for theory building but the special challenges of developing conceptual articles on entrepreneurship has not been fully considered. We begin to fill this gap by discussing the nature of conceptual articles on entrepreneurship, particularly those geared for publication in Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice. We introduce three dimensions of the entrepreneurship discipline—uniqueness, relevance, and multiplicity—and discuss how they can affect the positioning of conceptual articles and the articulation of their contribution. We also enumerate some basic principles for crafting good conceptual articles and present guidelines based on our discussion.
