Gender is a fast-evolving and topical field which is often the centre of attention in the media and in public policy debates. The current cultural and social climate provides possibilities for young people to express themselves. Gender diverse young people are not only developing new ways of describing gender, but they are also shaping what is required of clinical interventions. Emerging cultural, social and clinical trends, such as increases in referrals, shifts in sex ratio and diversification in gender identification, illustrate that gender diverse individuals are not a homogeneous group. How do evolving concepts of gender impact the clinical care of gender diverse young people presenting to specialist gender clinics today?

Thus, research on that topic that is of social knowledge undoubtedly generates several advances to the academia and promotes the knowledge disseminatio, thus corroborating to the demystification that runs by common sense when it comes to adolescent offender. Concerning the method, the integrative literature review was used, through the analysis and compilation of the publicized articles in indexing databases, making it easier to obtain data after analysis which can certainly serve as a tool for readers to contact this social context that both have been featured in the media, as well as contribute to the improvement of care and public policy assigned to this segment. Keywords: Infraction. Chapter Seventeen argues that a discursive approach can add much to our understanding of what has happened in policy analysis in Ireland. The concept of hyper-specialization is introduced as an important feature of the context in which policy discourse takes place, and shows the complexities discourses face as they travel across societies. Policy relevant discourses of media, and actors within the media, are examined, along with what recent developments mean for Irish public policy discourse. An important factor is how such policy discourses are internationalised in Ireland and the impact of that complication on participation in policy debates is examined. Further complexities include the effects of technocratization and economization on how we discuss policy. The chapter concludes that the discursive power of economists remains an important feature of our policy discourses.

▪ Abstract  Students of public policy sometimes envision an idealized policy process where competent data collection and incisive analysis on both sides of a debate lead to reasoned judgments and sound decisions. Unfortunately, numbers that prove decisive in policy debates are not always carefully developed, credibly documented, or correct. This paper presents four widely cited examples of numbers in the energy field that are either misleading or wrong. It explores the origins of these numbers, how they missed the mark, and how they have been misused by both analysts and the media. In addition, it describes and uses a three-stage analytical process for evaluating such statistics that involves defining terms and boundaries, assessing underlying data, and critically analyzing arguments.

Non-union collective agreements have become a common and widely accepted phenomenon in Australian industrial relations since the 1990s. This article asks why they are so rarely discussed in research, the media and public policy debates. On the way to exploring a range of factors that answer this question, we first summarise the relevant legislative provisions and reflect on their international exceptionalism. We review both data on the incidence and coverage of non-union collective agreements and the modest research on the practice of non-union collective agreement-making, almost all of which preceded the Fair Work Act. The penultimate main section analyses the few accounts of non-union collective agreements in the media and policy debates. The last main section presents our speculative and multi-causal answer to the why question.

Increasingly minority youth, especially from Muslim backgrounds, have been seen in Australian public policy and the media as potentially disruptive and transgressive. In some European societies similar young people have been portrayed as living in parallel and disconnected social spaces, self-segregated from interaction with the wider community. Yet Australian ethnic minority youth do not fulfil either of these stereotypes. Rather, despite their often regular experiences of racism or discrimination, they continue to assert a strong identification with and belonging to Australian society, albeit the society that marginalizes and denigrates their cultural capital. In particular it is the neighbourhood and the locality that provides the bridge between their home cultures and the broader world, contributing to a range of positive aspirations and fluid identities.

Ambulance services play a key role in the Australian health system, as the primary providers of pre-hospital clinical care, emergency care and specialised transport.1 Although at present there is a strong focus on broad health system reform, and health workforce reform specifically, little attention has been paid to the place of pre-hospital clinical care and the paramedic workforce that provides these services. Despite their significant role in the health system, there is no strategic national approach by government to the development of ambulance services or the paramedic workforce. In this paper, we review current and emerging trends impacting on the paramedic workforce. We examine changes in patterns of ambulance service provision and the nature of clinical work undertaken by paramedics, as well as developments in education, training and career pathways. We focus on the current situation in Victoria to illustrate and identify a number of important implications of current changes, for the profession, service and training providers, and policy makers.

The fight against asylum and immigration policies and their punitive impact on young people and their families was given high-profile media and political attention when the 'Glasgow Girls' at Drumchapel High School campaigned against the detention of one of their school friends in 2005. Amal Azzudin played a key role in fighting for her friend to be released from detention and, in the process, engaged with teachers, other pupils at Drumchapel High School, politicians and the media, raising awareness of the way in which asylum seekers without leave to remain were being treated. The campaign was instrumental in challenging mainstream attitudes and assumptions, and informing policy debates. Amal, in this piece, discusses the campaign and her continuing commitment to fighting against racism and inequality in all areas of society. She offers an insight into the successes that can be achieved when groups come together to fight against oppression in all its forms.

A sociological analysis of the factors of integration of young generations into active economic life is based on a study of the values of young people in relation to employment and professional growth. The information society has two key parameters that influence the construction of the trajectory of educational, professional, labor or entrepreneurial activity — the significant role of knowledge in creating value and the digital space as a source of information and the place for individuals to fulfill themselves in society and the social and professional community. A theoretical analysis of labor socialization allows researchers to move on to the results of empirical studies carried out with the participation of authors in 2017 and 2019-2020. The data obtained are evaluative in nature and allow authors to draw conclusions about the influence of the media space on young people entering working age taking decisions on choosing a profession and a form of economic activity, planning employment and career growth.
