Introduction: Alcohol consumption constitutes one of the main modifiable risk factors that contribute to the increase in the global burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The objective of this study was to determine the effects of the consumption of alcoholic beverages on the state of physical health and its equivalence according to gender. Methods: Cross-sectional data from the Health Information National Trends Survey (HINTS) of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) (n = 3865), collected during 2020 were used. Structural equation modeling was applied to assess the fit of the model, which included the prediction of measures of alcohol consumption in physical health and the equivalence of measurements of the proposed structural model in men and women. Results: The proposed structural model reported adequate goodness-of-fit indices (SBχ²/gl = 3.817, CFI = 0.984, TLI = 0.968, RMSEA [90% CI] = 0.027 [0.016-0.039]; SRMR = 0.016). Frequent alcohol consumption had a negative effect on physical health ( b = −0.13, P < .01). Similarly, occasional alcohol consumption negatively predicted elevated BMI and chronic conditions such as, diabetes, hypertension, CVD, and cancer ( b = −0.09, P < .01). In addition, drinking patterns of alcoholic beverages affect physical health in equal ways for men and women. Conclusion: The findings highlight that frequent and occasional alcohol consumption significantly affected physical health in a negative way. Future interventions could address ways to encourage the adoption of a healthy lifestyle to reduce the risks of chronic conditions derived from excessive alcohol consumption.

AbstractObjectiveAlcohol consumption may play a role in the development of obesity but the relationship between alcohol and weight is still unclear. The aim of our study was to assess the cross-sectional association of intakes of total alcohol and of specific alcoholic beverages (wine, beer and spirits) with waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) and body mass index (BMI) in a large sample of adults from all over France.DesignCross-sectional.SettingParticipants were free-living healthy volunteers of the SU.VI.MAX study (an intervention study on the effects of antioxidant supplementation on chronic diseases).SubjectsFor 1481 women aged 35–60 years and 1210 men aged 45–60 years, intakes of total alcohol and specific alcoholic beverages were assessed by six 24-hour dietary records. BMI and WHR were measured during a clinical examination the year after.ResultsA J-shaped relationship was found between total alcohol consumption and WHR in both sexes and between total alcohol consumption and BMI in men only (P < 0.05). The same relationships were observed with wine (P < 0.05); men and women consuming less than 100 g day−1 had a lower BMI (men only) and WHR than non-drinkers or those consuming more. Spirits consumption was positively associated with BMI (linear regression coefficient β = 0.21, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.09–0.34 and β = 0.22, 95% CI: 0.06–0.39 for men and women, respectively) and WHR (β = 0.003, 95% CI: 0.001–0.005 and β = 0.003, 95%CI: 0.0002–0.006) in both sexes in a linear fashion. No relationship between beer consumption and BMI or WHR was found.ConclusionIf confirmed in longitudinal studies, our results indicate that consumption of alcoholic beverages may be a risk factor for obesity.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of social responsibility, etiuka relatives, on the reputation of corporate governance and its impact on the performance of the company PT. Telkom Indonesia Branch Kebumen. The analytical tool used Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results of this study show that the reputation of social responsibility affects the reputation accepted. This is indicated by the value of CR = 2.514 and p = 0.012 or significant at ½ α = 0.05 t table = ± 1.980. Thus, the social responsibility variables formed by indicators of ethical codes, economic well-being, contributions and participant experiences have a significant influence on reputation. Further business ethics affects the accepted reputation. This is indicated by the value of CR = 2.872 and p = 0.004 or significant at  ½ α = 0.05 t table = ± 1.980. Thus the business ethics variables formed by the indicators: Product quality, product trials, respect for human dignity, cultural integrity of the customer has an influence on reputation. Corporate governance affects acceptable reputation. This is indicated by the value of CR = 3.241 and p = 0.001 or significant at ½ α = 0.05 t table = ± 1.980. thus corporate governance variables formed by the indicators: Company competence, openness and transparency, policy implementation, corporate policy, confidence in top management, knowledge and ability of human resources. Reputation, effect on company performance accepted. This is indicated by the value of CR = 13.933 and p = 0,000 or significant at ½ α = 0.05 t table = ± 1.980. Thus the reputation variable formed by the Company's Vision indicators, the product offered, the emotional closeness of the customer to the company, the company's financial capability and confidence in the employee. The limitations of this study on the structural model used, this model has been well seen from the test of cofirmatory and goodness-of-fit. but it is better for the company's performance topics to dig deeper into the variables and indicators used. Future research may also consider research objects that will be used not only in telecommunication service companies but can be developed in other business organizations.   Key word: Reputation and Corporate Performance

According to vast empirical evidence, excessive alcohol consumption is an important factor of premature mortality in Russia. At the same time, quantifying alcohol-related deaths is not so easy, as generally the discussion of alcohol mortality only concerns the causes of death attributed solely to alcohol, which significantly narrows the range of possible negative consequences. Including data on losses from myocardial infarction, coronary heart disease and other common cardiovascular and other diseases in alcohol mortality estimates is enabled by an approach using data on the relative risks of death from various causes depending on the type of alcohol consumption. Within this study, alcohol consumption, depending on sex and age, was assessed on data from a representative national survey, taking into account information on the volume of recorded sales of alcoholic beverages. According to the obtained results, in 2018 the death rate from alcohol-related causes in Russia amounted to 196,000 people, 146,000 men and 50,000 women among them. The peak of alcohol mortality is observed among people aged over 50. The structure of alcohol mortality is dominated by diseases of the cardiovascular system and external causes, and for men the contribution of external causes is significantly higher. Excessive alcohol consumption reduces life expectancy by 5.9 and 4.7 years for men and women, and healthy life expectancy by 4.2 and 2.6 years for men and women.

This study examines associations between perceived day-to-day age discrimination, positive well-being, and physical health over a 20-year span. Data came from all three waves of the National Survey of Midlife Development in the United States (1995–2014). Generalized structural equation modeling was used to analyze 6,016 observations of 3,102 participants and test associations between age discrimination and (a) psychological well-being and positive affect, and (b) self-rated health, instrumental activities of daily living, and chronic conditions. Associations were also examined between the well-being measures and all three health outcomes. Between-persons and within-persons effects were modeled separately but simultaneously. Both between-persons and within-persons results revealed numerous significant associations between age discrimination and physical health, although results were stronger between-persons. Moreover, hypothesized associations of age discrimination with well-being, and of well-being with physical health, were supported both between- and within-persons. Findings suggest diminished well-being may be one mechanism whereby age discrimination harms health.

PurposeThis paper aims to use the theory of planned behavior to evaluate factors that influence openness to participating in a victim-offender conference (VOC).Design/methodology/approachConsistent with theory of planned behavior recommendations, the study uses a vignette-based design to assess participation openness as willingness to participate in a VOC if they were victims of a property crime. It evaluates the goodness of fit of a hypothesized structural model of participation openness to the data and the utility of a theory of planned behavior model as opposed to simply an outcome-driven model.FindingsFindings from a hierarchical linear regression illustrate that a theory of planned behavior model explains a greater percentage of participation willingness than does an outcome-driven model. Analysis using structural equation modeling suggests that participation openness is largely a function of subjective norms, anticipated affect and anticipated outcomes.Research limitations/implicationsLimitations spring largely from sampling method and research design. Research implications pertain to the utility of theory of planned behavior in expanding research of VOC participation openness to include not only outcomes but also relational and contextual factors.Practical implicationsThe manuscript identifies several implications for training facilitators, talking with prospective VOC participants and advocating for restorative justice programs.Originality/valueUse of the theory of planned behavior as a lens for understanding openness to VOC participation gives researchers and practitioners a wider and more nuanced understanding of why people would generally be willing to participate in a VOC if they were the victim of an offense.

Nowadays, companies must be concerned with the levels of satisfaction and happiness of employees. Hence, this paper proposes to investigate the links between salary and happiness through an exploratory study with a quasi-experimental design. The sample included 376 respondents, and we employed structured equation modeling (SEM) in ADANCO. Prior to evaluating the structural model, the goodness of fit shows moderate/excellent values. Our empirical results show a positive relationship between salary and happiness, salary and life satisfaction, salary and financial satisfaction, financial satisfaction and life satisfaction, and financial satisfaction and happiness. Thus, we consider that our research contributes to the literature by analyzing the relationship between income and happiness in a developing country such as Romania. Congruent with previous findings, we consider that our results provide evidence of the road from salary to happiness in developing countries.

This study aims primarily to investigate the relationship between Self-esteem (SE) and Reading Motivation (RM) among EFL university students in Morocco. Another aim of this research is to examine the role of gender in shaping this relationship. A questionnaire on SE, RM and socio-biographical data was completed by one hundred and eighty (N = 180) participants of undergraduate and graduate levels. Bivariate statistical analyses showed low significant correlational results using standardized summed scores of SE and RM. Moderately significant results have been observed based on SE and RM factors extracted using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) after both constructs were shown to have acceptable internal consistency. Using structural equation modeling (SEM), we evaluated a direct effect measurement model to investigate the unidirectional impact of SE on RM and its concordance with the structural model. Corresponding results revealed acceptable goodness-of-fit indexes indicating the validity of the structural model and demonstrating a positive effect of SE on RM. The examination of gender-based scores showed that there was no significant difference between males and females both in SE and RM.

Over the past 30 years, independent lines of research in the fields of classroom environment and student attitudes to Christianity have been conducted. This research brought these two fields together by hypothesizing a model for the relationship among age, gender, students’ perceptions of religion classroom environment, students’ religious behavior and attitudes to Christianity. Responses from 815 Australian Catholic secondary school students on four attitude to Christianity scales, four classroom environment scales and the religious behavior of students and their parents were analyzed. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to validate the structure of the classroom environment and attitude to Christianity measures. Goodness of fit indices obtained from structural equation modeling revealed that the hypothesized model was a satisfactory fit to the data. Statistically significant path coefficients for the influence of students’ religious behavior and students’ perceptions of the religion classroom environment on students’ attitude to Christianity were found.


In the past two decades, the number of cross-border mergers and acquisitions in ASEAN has progressively expanded as the region has become a desired economic market for trade and investment. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the factors contributing to the success of acquisitions by corporations. It investigates the role of acquisition management capability with strategic integration and acquisition. The non-probability sampling strategy was used to collect information from 51 firms. With a five-point Likert scale, a systematic questionnaire was designed to test the latent variables by employing confirmatory factor analysis. The quantitative method of Structural Equation Modeling was used in the analysis. The results show that the structural model had a Goodness of Fit Index value that indicates all three latent variables and independent variables were valid. The findings indicate that acquisition management capability have a central role in advancing the overall integration of the acquiring firm in the ASEAN context.

Teknologi check-in mandiri berbasis teknologi terutama dari web atau mobile telah tersedia sejak beberapa tahun lalu. Namun, penerimaan teknologi ini khususnya untuk pengguna di Kalbar, masih sangat rendah. Pada responden penelitian ini, hanya 7 persen responden yang pernah menggunakan fasilitas check-in tersebut. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi penerimaan teknologi web check-in. Model TAM digunakan dengan menambahkan variabel trust dan risk. Data dianalisis dengan structural equation modeling. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa model fit dengan chi2 yang tidak signifikan dan indikator goodness of fit yang baik. Persepsi kegunaan (nilai korelasi 0,41), dan persepsi resiko (0,37) adalah variabel yang paling mempengaruhi niat untuk menggunakan web check-in, setelah itu diikuti oleh variabel kemudahan pemakaian (0,33) dan kepercayaan (0,32). Kontribusi penelitian bagi maskapai penyedia layanan adalah komunikasi merupakan kunci utama untuk meningkatkan penerimaan teknologi web check-in. Dengan penerimaan teknologi yang tinggi diharapkan efisiensi yang ditawarkan oleh teknologi ini juga dapat dimanfaatkan sepenuhnya, baik untuk layanan saat ini maupun untuk layanan di masa depan.Technology based self check-in service (web or mobile based) has been made available for some time. For passengers in West Borneo, acceptance for this technology is low, particularly participants in this research. There are only 7% of passengers in this research who use this technology; hence, the purpose of this study is to explain factors affecting acceptance of web check-in service. Two variables are added (trust and risk) to the original TAM model and structural equation modeling is employed for analysis. Structural model is fit with insignificant chi2 and good results are achieved in goodness of fit indicators. Results show perceived usefulness (0,41 correlation) and risk (0,37) to be the main contributing factors to explain acceptance of web check-in, followed by perceived ease of use (0,33) and trust (0,32). This research furthercontributes to air transport providers. Findings in this research suggest communication is the key aspect for air transport providers to increase technology acceptance. Increased technology acceptance will also increase benefits from what technology can offer today or in the future.
