Abstract Background COVID-19 pandemic is a challenge that the world had never encountered in the last 100 years. In order to mitigate its negative effects, governments worldwide took action by prohibiting at first certain activities and in some cases by a countrywide lockdown. Greece was among the countries that were struck by the pandemic. Governmental authorities took action in limiting the spread of the pandemic through a series of countermeasures, which built up to a countrywide lockdown that lasted 42 days. Methodology This research aims at identifying the effect of certain socioeconomic factors on the travel behaviour of Greek citizens and at investigating whether any social groups were comparatively less privileged or suffered more from the lockdown. To this end, a dynamic online questionnaire survey on mobility characteristics was designed and distributed to Greek citizens during the lockdown period, which resulted in 1,259 valid responses. Collected data were analysed through descriptive and inferential statistical tests, in order to identify mobility patterns and correlations with certain socioeconomic characteristics. Additionally, a Generalised Linear Model (GLM) was developed in order to examine the potential influence of socioeconomic characteristics to trip frequency before and during the lockdown period. Results Outcomes indicate a decisive decrease in trip frequencies due to the lockdown. Furthermore, the model’s results indicate significant correlations between gender, income and trip frequencies during the lockdown, something that is not evident in the pre-pandemic era.

The present study investigates the determinants of intention to use carsharing services by an integrated model of psychological predictors of travel behavior. The model proposed is tested by multigroup confirmatory factor analysis (MGCFA) in structural equation modeling (SEM) with further discussion about analysis of invariance and its relevance for comparisons between groups. The sample was classified into four groups: Italian users, Italian non-users, Swedish users, and Swedish non-users of carsharing. The users were respondents who have used or are currently using carsharing, while non-users reported never using the carsharing services. The analysis of data from 6072 respondents revealed that control was the main predictor of intention to use carsharing; driving habits had stronger negative effects for users of carsharing than for non-users; subjective norms positively predicted the intention to use carsharing among all groups; trust was a predictor of intention only for the Italian groups; and climate morality had a small negative effect on the Swedish groups only. The outcomes of this investigation will increase the knowledge about the use of carsharing and help to identify the behavioral and psychological factors that primarily influence people’s intention to use it.

This article examines the travel behavior of middle-class women in Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh and one of the world's largest and most densely populated cities. In particular, we focus on women's use of non-motorized rickshaws to understand the constraints on mobility for women in Dhaka. Primary research, in the form of an empirical study that surveyed women in six neighborhoods of Dhaka, underpins our findings. Our quantitative and qualitative data presents a detailed picture of women's mobility through the city. We argue that although over 75 percent of women surveyed chose the rickshaw as their main vehicle for travel, they did so within a complex framework of limited transport options. Women's mobility patterns have been further complicated by government action to decrease congestion by banning rickshaws from major roads in the city. Our article highlights the constraints on mobility that middle-class women in Dhaka face including inadequate services, poorly maintained roads, adverse weather conditions, safety and security issues, and the difficulty of confronting traditional views of women in public arenas.

This paper contains an examination of the fundamental assumption underlying the use of accessibility indicators: that an individual's travel behavior is related to his or her location vis-à-vis the distribution of potential activity sites. First, the conceptual and measurement issues surrounding accessibility and its relationship to travel are reviewed; then, an access measure for individuals is formulated. Using data from the Uppsala (Sweden) Household Travel Survey and controlling for sex, automobile availability, and employment status, the authors explore the relationship between both home- and work-based accessibility and five aspects of an individual's travel: mode use, trip frequencies and travel distances for discretionary purposes, trip complexity, travel in conjunction with the journey to work, and size of the activity space. From the results it can be seen that although all of these travel characteristics are related to accessibility to some degree, the travel–accessibility relationship is not as strong as deductive formulations have implied. High accessibility levels are associated with higher proportions of travel by nonmotorized means, lower levels of automobile use, reduced travel distances for certain discretionary trip purposes, and smaller individual activity spaces. Furthermore, the density of activity sites around the workplace affects the distances travelled by employed people for discretionary purposes. Overall, accessibility level has a greater impact on mode use and travel distance than it does on discretionary trip frequency. This result was unexpected in light of the strong trip frequency–accessibility relationship posited frequently in the literature.

Introduction: The rapid increase of infected cases and fatalities during the COVID-19 pandemic has created a huge health crisis to the world and Vietnam in particular. Health professionals were put under massive pressure in preventing pandemic. This study was conducted to assess the knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) during the COVID-19 disease through an online survey as well as related infection control practices among pharmacy students in the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City (UMP). Methods: The cross-sectional study was conducted based on the data obtained from an online questionnaire. Correlation analysis was performed using statistical tests and linear regression model for practice. The total study sample, chosen based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria was taken from pharmacy students in UMP during the study period. Results: A scale of KAP towards COVID-19 was developed with 43 questions and received 1,089 responses. We acknowledged that the awareness and practice of these students were at a good level (with a mean score of 8.37±0.77 and 8.46±1.33, respectively) and the attitude was optimistic with a mean score of 6.22±0.68. Related factors to practice included gender (p=0.005), year of study (p=0.013); to knowledge included the time spent in university (p=0.040); to attitude included social distancing (p=0.024). Multivariable regression analysis showed that practice is related with male gender (β=-0.254; p=0.001), the first 3 school years (β = 0.173; p=0.020), knowledge score (β =0.154; p=0.003). Conclusions: Based on a constructive scale, the study noted students' knowledge-attitude-practice towards COVID-19 at a good level. School year and knowledge scores positively affected practice scores, while male students had a negative effect.

How traffic information is obtained and how it affects travel behavior when a major freeway is congested are presented and discussed. Immediately following a major highway incident south of San Francisco that caused congestion, a telephone survey was conducted of commuters who use the affected corridor of the highway. The behavior of commuters before and during their commute at the time of the incident was determined, including obtaining traffic information and how the information influenced changes in route, mode of travel, and departure time. The results of the survey suggest that traveler behavior is largely unaffected by individual incidents of congestion. Furthermore, although a fair proportion of commuters do obtain traffic information, they do not often modify their travel behavior in response. This study is one of several that collectively will provide insight into how travel behavior changes over time and allow the authors to assess the impact of TravInfo Traveler Advisory Telephone System in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Wisatawan yang berkunjung di Banyuwangi mempunyai berbagai perbedaan karakteristik, kebutuhan, keinginan dan tujuan dalam berlibur. Semakin bertambahnya mobilitas penduduk sebagai wisatawan di daerah Banyuwangi, maka perhitungan dan analisis segmentasi yang akurat berdasarkan data kuantitatif sangat diperlukan. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui informasi profil wisatawan yang berkunjung ke daerah Banyuwangi dan dapat digunakan sebagai dasar perencanaan kebijakan pemasaran pada lokasi wisata yang tepat sasaran. Jumlah data yang ada besar dan bervariasi, maka digunakan suatu teknik segmentasi kuantitatif yaitu klastering k-means berdasarkan variabel  perilaku wisatawan (travel behaviour). Teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan adalah pengambilan sampel secara sembarang (accidental sampling) dengan sampel responden sebanyak 90 orang yang diambil dari 3 lokasi wisata di Banyuwangi, yaitu Waduk Sidodadi Glenmore, Marina Boom, dan Bangsring Underwater. Dari klastering k-means terbentuk 5 segmen wisatawan yang berkunjung di Banyuwangi.

The burden of poor access to financial services tends to be heavier on rice farmers because of the government's predisposition to bridge rice demand-supply deficit through importation. Improving yields is insufficient to lift rice farmers from poverty. It is necessary to understand and change the system in which the farmers operate one of which is the debt-equity mix of the enterprise. This study analyzed the relationship between socioeconomic characteristics and leverage ratio of rice farmers in Anambra State Nigeria with a view to informing and influencing policy. A hundred rice farmers were randomly selected. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis. The debt-equity ratio was 0.33. Therefore, the rice farmer could employ more debt to increase yield. In terms of solvency and credit worthiness, the rice farmer had the capacity to employ more debt for profitable investment. Targeted financial and risk management assistance should be extended to the farmers.

This study aims at presenting an experimental evaluation of the different effects of environmental and health information on encouraging car owners to travel on foot and by bicycle. Health information consists of a high and a low target setting. One hundred and forty-six participants in Hefei city reported their travel behaviors in terms of mode, time, and trip before and after the experiment. Their cognitive and emotional processes with regard to the protection motivation theory (PMT) that determine their potential travel behavior changes in response to information intervention are also identified. Three experimental groups and one control group based on a between-group design are adopted and the methodology of paired sample chi-squared tests and stepwise linear regressions are used. The results show that environmental information alone fails to encourage car owners’ non-motorized travel. When health information is added, information intervention can effectively encourage a time increase in walking and cycling as well as a time and trip decrease in car use in the short term. But the long-term effect is not significant after a year and a half. Moreover, there are no significant differences between the high and the low target settings in health information for encouraging non-motorized travel. In terms of PMT constructs, severity has a significant relationship with the change of time or trip on foot and by bicycle. Vulnerability emerges as a non-effective predictor. Reward, self-efficacy, response efficacy, and response cost are more remarkable in predicting the change of time or trip by car. This study recommends that (1) health information with a target setting is superior to environmental information, (2) reduction strategy is potentially superior to transfer strategy to control car usage, (3) policymakers should design intervention strategies relevant to the coping appraisal rather than to the threat appraisal.

Commutes in urban areas create interesting travel patterns that are often stored in regional transportation databases. These patterns can vary based on the day of the week, the time of the day, and commuter type. This study proposes methods to detect underlying spatio-temporal variability among three groups of commuters (senior citizens, child/students, and adults) using data mining and spatial analytics. Data from over 36 million individual trip records collected over one week (March 2012) on the Singapore bus and Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system by the fare collection system were used. Analyses of such data are important for transportation and landuse designers and contribute to a better understanding of urban dynamics. <br><br> Specifically, descriptive statistics, network analysis, and spatial analysis methods are presented. Descriptive variables were proposed such as density and duration to detect temporal features of people. A directed weighted graph G &equiv; (N , L, W) was defined to analyze the global network properties of every pair of the transportation link in the city during an average workday for all three categories. Besides, spatial interpolation and spatial statistic tools were used to transform the discrete network nodes into structured human movement landscape to understand the role of transportation systems in urban areas. The travel behaviour of the three categories follows a certain degree of temporal and spatial universality but also displays unique patterns within their own specialties. Each category is characterized by their different peak hours, commute distances, and specific locations for travel on weekdays.
