AbstractDisruptive strategies have only been studied in stable environments. To overcome this limitation, this article aims to show through an in-depth study of the main actors in the yoghurt industry in Algeria that these strategies are possible in a dynamic environment. This research was carried out on the basis of an exploratory qualitative study. We have focused our efforts on two types of players, including new entrants and incumbent businesses. Our results show that the strong factors of the competitive dynamics pushed companies and industries to undertake disruptive innovation, which strategy became an indispensable element to survive and succeed for all the actors in the industry. Overall, our study indicates that the link between the competitive dynamics and disruptive innovation is not only in need of, but is deserving of, more consideration.

This study examines the perceptions that veteran digital journalists working at news organizations, the people who traditionally have hiring power, hold concerning how new entrants into the news industry are being prepared by journalism programs. Using in-depth interviews with 29 full-time digital journalists (journalists who only publish online), this study finds that while veterans said educators are doing a good job teaching technology, there is too much focus on it to the detriment of traditional journalism skills. These findings are then discussed through the lens of the theory of disruptive innovation.

Dynamic capabilities are creating dramatic change for the industry around the world. Resource-Based View (RBV) theory and Operational capability theory are the basic capabilities of an organization under a normal changing environment. This creates a competitive advantage and organizational success in a relatively short period of time, in which the dynamic environment is not sufficient to cope with this change. Dynamic capability is a concept for managing change under this dynamic environment. Past research supports a direct positive relationship between dynamic capability and firm performance but it did not focus on the mediator variables. This research emphasizes the influences of competitive advantages and innovation capabilities as mediators of dynamic capabilities and firm performance were investigated. A cross-sectional design study was utilised and questionnaires were submitted to 326 firms to test the proposed relationships. IBM SPSS Statistics Base 26, IBM SPSS AMOS 21, and PROCESS macro 3.6 were used for statistical analysis. Results revealed that competitive advantages and innovation capabilities were partially mediated by dynamic capabilities and firm performance. Findings contribute to the literature on empowering leadership and innovative firm performance by highlighting that competitive advantages and innovation capabilities act as mediators to improve dynamic capabilities and enhance innovative firm performance.

Disruptive innovation (DI) is evolving as a strategically significant innovation type in this current dynamic, volatile, and global competitive business environment. The theory of DI is critical in comprehending entrant-incumbent relationships and elucidating how their interplay affects the nature of the market. The fundamental aim of this study is to assess disruptive innovation from the perspectives of new entrants and incumbents using the empirical reviews approach. The chapter contends that disruption is a phenomenon whose forces are always at work, and incumbents can elude it by putting in place the prerequisite measures and having the right caliber of human resources to pre-empt and avert genuine potential disruptive threats. The study demonstrates the steps taken by upstarts to displace leading firms and the responses that can be provided by the latter against disruption. It extends its scope to significance of DI, reasons for failure of incumbents in DI battle, and barriers to effective implementation of disruptive innovation.

The article is based on the results of the research project “Legitimacy of policing, criminal justice and execution of penal sanctions”, carried out in 2013–2016 with financial support from the Slovenian Research Agency. In recent years researchers on self-legitimacy in the prison environment have addressed the issue of prison officials’ perception of self-legitimacy and recognized the need for an in-depth study. The aim of the study was to study the self-legitimacy of prison officials in the context of the Slovenian prison environment. The first part of the article introduces the concept of self-legitimacy of prison staff, examines the theoretical aspects of the dual nature of legitimacy, as well as the features of self-legitimacy in the prison environment. However prison staff includes both prison officials and specialized staff. The second part of the article presents the results of a qualitative study of the self-legitimacy of prison workers and gives its detailed characteristics. Analysis of responses from prison officials and specialist staff focused on issues of legitimacy, relationships with colleagues, leaders, prisoners, and the stress and subculture of prison staff. The results of the study showed that the relationship between staff and prisoners plays a vital role in establishing and maintaining order in the prison environment and the selflegitimacy of prison staff is the basis of their successful interaction with prisoners.

Extant literature on technology adoption in the workplace generally analyses a single technology, thereby preventing us from a comprehensive understanding about the use of multiple technologies at work. As the usage of mobile devices becomes ubiquitous, knowing how the use of multiple technologies influence individual and group-related tasks is becoming more critical. Therefore, the objective of this study is to understand how managers perform their duties and functions and what technologies are utilized. This study adopts a qualitative study design by conducting in-depth interviews with eight managers employed in the public sector. We found four categories of convergence of mobile and fixed technologies in the workplace: supplementary, complementary, high-degree of integration, and full integration. The technology convergence is mainly influenced by the nature of the managerial work. Most importantly, mobile device is yet a disruptive innovation in the workplace, although its full integration with the fixed technology can be promoted.
