AbstractIn this mixed-methods research, the relationship between four factors of individual online learners and their mathematics self-concept was explored. In addition, the challenges the students faced in learning mathematics online during the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic were determined. The participant students were from two mathematics classes offered online during the summer of 2020. Pure online classes were first offered during this period because face-to-face learning sessions were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was found that students owned the devices they were using for online classes. Internet connection and power interruption were the most problematic aspects of online learning. Students had positive as well as negative mathematics online learning self-concepts. Individual factors were partly related to mathematics self-concept. Qualitative data shows that students faced technological, personal, domestic, assessment, pedagogical, consultation, and test anxiety challenges. Implications and recommendations for teaching mathematics in an online environment are offered.

One of the government's policies to stop the spread of the covid-19 pandemic is to shift face-to-face learning at school to distance learning at home. Online learning is not easy to do, it is different from conventional learning. In online classes, students were reluctant to participate in the in-class activities. This kind of reluctance made students lose motivation to learn languages. This study aims to see how the online learning model is to find out the students’ involvement in EFL online classes during the Covid-19 Pandemic at Senior High School in Bengkalis. This present study employs a descriptive case study as the research design. To collect the data, researchers used observation, video documentation, and interviews. Meanwhile, the data analysis technique used in this study were used qualitative data analysis techniques which include three activities, namely: data reduction, data presentation, concluding. The results of this study revealed that. Students could not see the screen display, teacher and student communicating to solve problems, there is a network disruption, students late response to teacher, the class leader is the student who always actively responds to the teacher, students do not respond to teacher directions, students sign in and sign out the zoom meeting

Online learning is a revolutionary trend of educational technology today. Particularly, online learning has become the donminent alternative to traditional learning during the Covid-19 pandemic and in the new normal. Various studies have shown that online learning has varying effectiveness at all levels and types of education; however, it is worth noting that many learners are still struggling to accept the mode of online learning, and learner retention has been suggested as one of the greatest weaknesses in online education. The current study used a questionnaire with open-ended questions to examine online learners’ perceptions of online learning as well as to understand reasons for their retention in online courses. The results revealed that most of the learners, especially young learners still preferred traditional face-to-face learning to online learning due to various problems they experienced while doing online learning, such as lack of facilities and necessary interactions. However, the retention rates are relatively modest, indicating the perceived quality of online programs at a center of foreign languages in Vietnam.

Covid-19 has changed many sectors of life, including education. Various countries have adapted to the online learning system as a response. However, online learning also came with price. Limitations for online meeting applications gave more freedom feeling to students. As a result, students did impolite and improper acts towards teachers and during online classes. In normal face to face class situations, students have more pressure on ethics therefore they think twice about doing improper acts, but the freedom of online learning altered that. The problem is, “What are the effects of online learning on students’ behavior?” So, authors aim to find the relationship between online learning and students’ behavior including ethics and morality. Thus, finding a possible solution as an effort to minimize the effect and possibly prevent unexpected things in the future. Authors used literature review and questionnaire to gather data and descriptive-qualitative research to analyze the data. Various data gathered and connected with each other, and proven that online learning gave more freedom for students and students themselves used it to do impolite and improper acts. The limitation of this research is that the number of respondents was 30, therefore it needs to be expanded on to a wider audience.

Information technology is well developed today. This is shown by several applications that support online activities, social activities, commerce, services, and learning. In this pandemic situation (covid-19), several institutions provided policies to carry out online learning to prevent and minimize the spread of the Covid-19 virus. In this case, the institution committees ask the teachers and lecturers to provide online learning to students, especially in learning English. The purpose of this study was to determine the teachers' perceptions in online language learning. Researchers used a questionnaire instrument to conduct surveys and interviews to obtain qualitative data. This is aimed to observe the teachers’ perception towards online language teaching practices and changes in teaching to online teaching. The things encountered during learning, as well as obstacles faced by the English teacher. In online learning, teachers must be able to involve students so that the situation runs like face-to-face learning. The final results of this study will be useful for online language teachers, institutions, and all aspects involved in education.

ABSTRACTSince September 2021 limited face-to-face learning (PTM) has been implemented. This limited PTM has many options in its implementation, for example by combining online and PTM methods. The shift to online learning is based on many assumptions, such as all members of society having access to multiple tools. However, the reality is that there are still many people who do not have stable internet access. To overcome this problem, the mathematics teacher at SMA Negeri 1 Kuta Utara emphasized to students that learning mathematics is not only to pursue the achievement of the material in the textbook, but emphasizes to students how to think critically and solve problems. This service provides an opportunity for teachers to have experience in compiling a project assignment using the concept of coding. The implementation of this service consists of three stages, namely the planning, implementation, and reflection stages. The results obtained are that this service helps teachers find new alternatives in compiling project assignments that still prioritize learning objectives. In addition, students also do not have difficulty in doing the assignments given by the teacher. Keywords: coding; project assignment; mathematics.

Covid-19 pandemic brings changes in many aspects of peoples’ lives throughout the world. The spread of Covid-19 in Indonesia affects the education system in this country. Face-to-face instructions are shifted into full online learnings from home. Despite this quite drastic change, the literature on students’ insights of this matter has still been silent. Thus, the present study elucidates 45 EFL students’ challenges, suggestions and needed materials during these online classes. Rely on qualitative data analysis from written responses and semi-structured interviews, the findings disclosed that these EFL students’ main challenges in attending online courses were the unsteady networks and the less direct interactions. These students mainly suggested the use of video conferencing applications such as zoom or Google meet, though some students chose assignments over those applications. The students also mentioned that they basically needed grammar related materials within the online classes. The findings bring forward the picture of full online learning condition during Covid-19 outbreak on EFL setting in Indonesia.

Previously many language teachers feared that online learning may not give the same impact that it had for face-to-face learning. Nevertheless, now, online learning has become a new norm. More studies on online language learning have emerged. Past studies have shown that the success (or failure) of online classes is the strength of the engagement that took place during the online sessions. This study is done to see if there are gender differences in the learning of a foreign language; French; specifically in terms of Valence, instrumentality, expectancy. French as a foreign language across gender. The instrument used is a survey with four sections. Section A looks at the demographic profile, Section B looks at Valence, Section C looks at Instrumentality and Section D looks at Expectancy. A total of 170 learners responded to the survey. 44 of them were male learners, while 126 were female. Findings revealed variations in gender motivation and perceptions of online language learning. <p> </p><p><strong> Article visualizations:</strong></p><p><img src="/-counters-/edu_01/0876/a.php" alt="Hit counter" /></p>

ABSTRACT A recent challenge in the field of education has been met as a shift to online classes from traditional face-to-face classes has been attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hence, certain issues arise from such a sudden shift to an online learning environment, especially for those who have been mainly (or for others, solely) taught in a face-to-face setting. This paper aimed to determine the attitudes of Thai English learners towards online learning of speaking. The study involved fifty-four fourth year English majors in a university in southern Thailand. A survey questionnaire was developed to collect data. It consisted of a 5- point Likert scale asking for the students' level of agreement with statements and open-ended questions. The results show that the teacher being perceived as supportive and the students having a positive feeling when they had a stable Internet connection were the two areas that had the highest mean scores. On the other hand, being given enough opportunities to interact with classmates and preferring to participate in discussions using video (with microphone and video on) had the lowest mean scores. Moreover, the learners’ comments provided insights into their attitudes toward online learning in terms of preferences and challenges. Implications for teaching are then drawn from the results. KEYWORDS: attitudes, online learning, speaking

The importance of maintaining connections and relationships across tertiary education for students is discussed as a way of examining the nature of Pacific education in challenging times, particularly in terms of fractured face-to-face learning. Universities have been thrust into an unpredictable time of remote/distance/online learning in a short period of time. The process has been unsettling and challenging for people across the world. As Pacific students and staff experience the unchartered waters of Covid-19 and global disturbances, they are searching out ways to build purposeful connections, shape-shifting and ways to maintain communities of academic togetherness while harnessing the tools of their knowledge trajectories in research. This article will focus on four key principles: valuing personal and academic connections beyond the textbook; discovering heart-warming methods of connection; and connecting for growth and wellbeing.
