153 Background: Pain is the most common symptom experienced by oncology patients. Up to 90% of all patients with advanced cancer experience pain and 50% of those describe their pain as moderate to severe. The patient controlled analgesia (PCA) is commonly used to treat pain on the acute care oncology unit at The Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). The PCA pump can be programmed incorrectly, resulting in over or under dosing of patients with opiates. Both the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) and the Institute for Safe Medication Practice (ISMP) recommend an independent double check (IDC) be done on error prone processes like the use of high alert medications. An IDC involves two clinicians separately checking (alone and apart from each other, then comparing results) the infusion settings in accordance with the physician’s order. Methods: The nurses on the acute care oncology unit at MGH were surveyed to determine their baseline understanding of an IDC. Training was conducted and a process for documentation implemented. A second intervention included further education initiatives such as posters of key points and a web-based knowledge survey of the IDC definition, process, and documentation. Results: Prior to the initial implementation 80% (32/40) of the nurses provided a partially correct definition of an IDC, 17.5% (7/40) an incorrect definition of an IDC and only 2.5% (1/40) provided a correct definition of an IDC. After the initial educational activities, a second knowledge survey was administered. Performance improved with only 13.4% (7/52) of the nurses missing one or more of the three questions on survey. After the initial education, of the 126 opportunities to document an IDC 21.4% (27/126) were done correctly. Performance improved to 80.7% (67/83) after the second intervention. Conclusions: Prior to implementing this IDC education, nurses at MGH did not have a clear understanding of what is required for an IDC of a PCA. This pilot education module was effective in decreasing the knowledge gaps and improving performance. Education must be concise and repetitive to change practice. Successful implementation of an IDC process improves the safety of a high-alert medication for the patient.

The study is a case study on a group of teacher trainees currently in their sixth semester in a teacher training college. The study investigated the implementation of subjects to prepare teacher trainees to use ICT in the classroom. The study was conducted in a teacher training college in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The focus, in this case, will be on how the teachers were trained in the college to use technology, integrate technology into their pedagogy and use technology to deliver the content of the lesson. The study utilized Trowler’s (2003) implementation staircase to establish how the implementation was carried out in the teacher training institute by the lecturer in charge. The study was conducted on a group of 30 teacher trainees, a teacher training lecturer and an administrator of the institute. The data was collected via a TPACK (Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge) survey to ascertain the teacher trainees’ TPACK level. A focus group interview on the teacher trainees and lecturer was conducted on the implementation of ICT via the curriculum in the college. The data collected indicated a mismatch in the results of the implementation. The teacher trainees perceived that the implementation of the ICT curriculum is insufficient whereas the implementation of the ICT curriculum was perceived as a success by the lecturer.

Abstract Fake news is a worrying phenomenon which is growing increasingly widespread, partly because of the ease with which it is disseminated online. Combating the spread of fake news requires a clear understanding of the nature of fake news. However, the use of the term in everyday language is heterogenous and has no fixed meaning. Despite increasing philosophical attention to the topic, there is no consensus on the correct definition of “fake news” within philosophy either. This paper aims to bring clarity to the philosophical debate of fake news in two ways: Firstly, by providing an overview of existing philosophical definitions and secondly, by developing a new account of fake news. This paper will identify where there is agreement within the philosophical debate of definitions of “fake news” and isolate four key questions on which there is genuine disagreement. These concern the intentionality underlying fake news, its truth value, the question of whether fake news needs to reach a minimum audience, and the question of whether an account of fake news needs to be dynamic. By answering these four questions, I provide a novel account of defining “fake news”. This new definition hinges upon the fact that fake news has the function of being deliberately misleading about its own status as news.

Pharmacists and pharmaceutical technicians play an important role in counselling customers regarding sunscreen use and sun protection measures. A potentially helpful tool that can be used during counselling is the ultraviolet index (UVI), which informs individuals when and what sun protection measures are needed at a specific place and time. Our aim in this qualitative study was to explore awareness, knowledge, and use of the UVI during counselling in pharmacies. We used semi-structured interviews with pharmacists and pharmaceutical technicians (n = 20) to answer our research questions. Interviews were audiotaped, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed using qualitative content analysis. During the interviews pharmacists and pharmaceutical technicians revealed a lot of uncertainty and lack of knowledge regarding the UVI. Eight professionals were able to give a correct definition of UVI. Amongst others, the UVI was confused with sun protection factor. Overall, the UVI was hardly used during the counselling of customers. The UVI was developed to provide guidance when which type of sun protection is required to avoid detrimental effects of ultraviolet radiation. For effective implementation, both the general population and health professionals (e.g., pharmacists) have to increase their knowledge about the UVI. This would strengthen its use during professional counselling in pharmacies and may help to reduce the incidence of skin cancer over the long term.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate Library and Information Science (LIS) students’ understanding of infodemic and related terminologies and their ability to categorize COVID-19-related problematic information types using examples from social media platforms. Design/methodology/approach The participants of this study were LIS students from a public-funded university located at the south coast of Bangladesh. An online survey was conducted which, in addition to demographic and study information, asked students to identify the correct definition of infodemic and related terminologies and to categorize the COVID-related problematic social media posts based on their inherent problem characteristics. The correct answer for each definition and task question was assigned a score of “1”, whereas the wrong answer was coded as “0”. The percentages of correctness score for total and each category of definition and task-specific questions were computed. The independent sample t-test and ANOVA were run to examine the differences in total and category-specific scores between student groups. Findings The findings revealed that students’ knowledge concerning the definition of infodemic and related terminologies and the categorization of COVID-19-related problematic social media posts was poor. There was no significant difference in correctness scores between student groups in terms of gender, age and study levels. Originality/value To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first time an effort was made to understand LIS students’ recognition and classification of problematic information. The findings can assist LIS departments in revising and improving the existing information literacy curriculum for students.

In today’s world of manufacturing, R&D, and testing across diverse industries, the definition of Metrology and calibration has taken on new meanings, whether it is right or wrong. With the evolving requirements for defining traceability, which is impacted through ISO/IEC 17025: 2017 as well as the NIST’s definition of Metrological Traceability, we must step back and truly understand what the differences are between these 2 terms. In this paper, we will evaluate the definitions of Metrology and calibration. We will also look at the importance of each and how one affects the other. While both terms are important, as liaisons within the Science of Measurement, we need to be able to articulate the differences between both terms to assist in bringing the representatives working in various industries to a clear understanding of how calibration is an action within the world of Metrology.

Abstract. With reference to the rockfall risk estimation and the planning of rockfall protection devices one of the most critical and most discussed problems is the correct definition of the design block taking into account its return period. In this paper, a methodology for the assessment of the design block linked with its return time is proposed and discussed, following a statistical approach. The procedure is based on the survey of the blocks already detached from the slope and accumulated at the foot of the slope and the available historical data.

Problem setting. The importance of financial control in the formation of market relations is significantly increasing, because such control contributes to the successful implementation of the financial policy of the state, ensuring the proper formation, distribution (redistribution) and the use of funds accumulated in public funds. In addition, it should be noted that financial control is a means of regulating economic activity. In this context, legal support for financial control is of great importance. Independent financial control is a form of non-governmental financial control that can be exercised by specialized organizations – audit firms or auditors. It is significant that Ukraine recently adopted a law regulating the procedure for auditing and conducting financial audits. It is the Law of Ukraine “On Audit of Financial Reporting and Auditing” № 2258-VIII of December 21. 2017, which came into force on 1 October. 2018. Analysis of recent researches and publications. We emphasize that the study of the concept of “financial control”, the definition of its types, forms and methods, as well as the legal status of the entities that carry it out, were engaged in the following scientists: L. K. Voronova, О. P. Hetmanets, T. A. Zhadan, M. P. Kucheryavenko, P. P. Latkovsky, Yu. A. Mandrychenko, L. A. Savchenko and others. However, changes in the legal regulation of financial control, issues related to the consolidation of the legal status of entities exercising independent financial control need to be examined in detail. Therefore, the purpose of the article is to analyze the legal status of entities exercising independent financial control in Ukraine. Article’s main body. In the article the author reveals the peculiarities of the legal status of the Audit Chamber of Ukraine as a subject of independent financial control in Ukraine. Іt can be stated that the Audit Chamber of Ukraine, which is a professional organization, is a direct participant in the relations related to the organization and implementation of independent financial control, in particular, audit control. Given the compulsory nature of acquiring membership in the AСU, the statutory purpose and activities of this organization, this organization can not be considered public. Conclusions and prospects for the development. It is stated that the legal status of the specified entity is characterized by a certain multidimensionality. In particular, the Audit Chamber of Ukraine is a professional, self-regulatory organization that is authorized to perform public functions and is managed through specially created bodies. The above shows that the current legislation of Ukraine reflects a new approach to the regulation of independent financial control, in particular by defining the powers, rights and duties of the Audit Chamber of Ukraine.

In the current legislation of the Russian Federation, there is no concept of a land dispute, which causes difficulties in determining the competence of an arbitration court in cases in which the object of the dispute is land. The article analyzes the general legal concept of a dispute and the sectoral concept of a land dispute developed by scientists. The author identified the characteristic features of a land dispute and its structural elements. The work reveals the influence of the structural elements of the land dispute on the type of production in which the dispute will be considered. In addition, the author concludes that the correct definition of the structural elements of the land dispute enables the arbitration court to determine the appropriate persons participating in the case, the subject of proof, the relevance and admissibility of evidence, and ultimately make a lawful and wellgrounded court decision.
