Immortal products are updated and upgraded to go from application to application and, in so doing, to extend their life as long as possible. Designing such products is the key to a sustainable society from the circular economy perspective. It is a new way of designing that must be supported by engineering tools to be deployed in companies, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) included. The implementation of circular loops and the associated industrial systems are very dependent on the contexts and life scenarios of the products. Thus, depending on the products to be re-circulated, the processes controlled, and the actors involved, the requirements to be reported at design level are very diverse. This paper proposes a new design method based on lifecycle scenarios to be analyzed and designed. Supported by classical engineering tools that has been adapted for circular economy (CE) context, the lifecycle model enables simultaneous design of businesses, products and services and the evaluation of their environmental values. Three industrial design cases showing the application of engineering tools for implementation of CE lifecycle scenarios are presented.

As an advanced design idea nowadays, to realize body’s healthy movement, healthy industrial design (be called HID for short) pursues user’s “health, happiness and joy”, Different types of limits will be treated dynamically for this goal during the whole design process. The adjustable limit will be treated by changing the subjective reason leading to it, while the un-adjustable limit will be treated by optimizing user’s behavior and producer’s structure, material, color etc.

Using the theoretical knowledge of ergonomics, physiology, and psychology, carried out the humanized design of human body adaptive sports equipment; using the theoretical knowledge of modeling, color, material science and other related disciplines, proposed the human body adaptive sports equipment Humanized design method. Aiming at the fuzziness of the industrial design of human adaptive sports equipment, fuzzy mathematics theory is used as an analysis tool, combined with the actual characteristics of the industrial design of human adaptive sports equipment, focusing on the nature of industrial design under fuzzy theory. Comprehensive analysis and understanding of design-related factors, and the introduction of expert survey method in the case of no basic data source in innovative design, to obtain the weight value of single factor influence, this will help designers grasp the main contradiction, achieve a targeted, and Solve key problems with higher efficiency. Subsequent use of fuzzy mathematics tools to put forward a quantitative index for the selection of options, which will help analyze the pros and cons of the various options, so as to provide a reliable reference for decision makers. This method makes up for the shortcomings of traditional methods in the process of design factor analysis and program selection.

Taking new lifestyle as a breakthrough perspective for innovative design, ways to merge the Low carbon concept into industrial design method are studied in terms of the design investigation, design orientation, design concepts, and the modeling design and so on. A clear definition of Lifestyle was proposed, then, the method of measuring Lifestyle model was constructed by VIO scale. As a very typical representative, the post-80's the lifestyle was analyzed who proved the main small-household electrical appliances consumer groups. Mi-sa washing machine design as an example verified the effectiveness, practicality and innovativeness of the method. The result show that the low-carbon industrial design in the true sense should depend on the modern lifestyle and consumer habits.

Emotion has inalienablerelationship with culture. Nowadays, there is an increasing tread in designersto integrate culture elements in product designs. Based on previous emotional design theory,we made a thorough analysis from three levels respectively: visceral level, behavior level and reflective level and tried to work out a culturaldesign method with the purpose of integrating culture withtechnologically industrial design. Subsequently, to validate this method, we developed an interactivelamp design with multi-sensor technology, which called “Lightceremony”, inspired by a specialcultural element, tea ceremony.

Abstract The systematic design method calls for the preparation of a requirements list for the design problem, followed by development of a function structure. The functional description of a product is a description at an abstract level, in solution-neutral terms. At the functional stage different design possibilities can be explored by developing functional variants. Two major avenues for this are (a) subdividing functions (divergence), and (b) combining and eliminating functions (convergence). The latter can lead to simpler and cheaper designs through function integration and reduction, respectively. It is discussed with the help of industrial design examples.
