Background Despite the importance of family and its relationship to positive transplant outcomes, little is known about family experiences following organ transplantation from the perspective of the transplant recipients. The literature is also devoid of information that describes the family experiences of Muslim transplant recipients. Aims The purpose of this study was to describe Muslim transplant recipients’ family experiences following organ transplantation. Methods A hermeneutical phenomenological approach was employed to determine the emergent themes present in the data. The sample was composed of 12 Muslim organ transplant recipients (heart, kidney and liver) living in Iran. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with each participant. Results The primary constitutive pattern that emerged from the interview data was ‘Altered Family Relationships’ and three themes: fear in relationships, abnormal relationships, and the family at the centre of organ transplant issues. Conclusions There are several important findings in this study, notably that Muslim transplant recipients describe their family experiences following organ transplantation as ‘altered’ and not as they were pre-transplant. More research is needed that focuses on the family experience post-transplant, and how Muslim transplant recipient families are impacted by the transplant experience.

The family context and children's social development: a case study ABSTRACT The social development of an infant is largely influenced by the family context because the microsystem provides the first guidelines for socialization, which in the course of daily living will allow the acquisition of basic social skills. The objective of this research is to analyze the importance of the family context in social development in childhood, through a descriptive case study. The study subject was a 5-year-old boy who began his schooling from home through the program called Family Attention Service for Early Childhood (SAFPI), in the province of Pichincha, Ecuador. To collect the information, the observation technique and several additional instruments were used (family anamnesis, the files of the Octagonal Integrative Model of Child Development (MOIDI), interview guide, estimation scale and checklist). Finally, for the analysis and interpretation of the results, the methods of heuristics and hermeneutics were applied. From the data obtained and according to the dimensions of the analysis of the family context, it was identified that the study subject develops in a safe family context, which has allowed him to develop certain basic social skills that will later be expanded when the infant adapts to a regular educational center. KEYWORDS: Social development; social skills; family context; Family Care Service for Early Childhood.

To what extent organized employers and trade unions support social policies is contested. This article examines the case of work-family policies (WFPs), which have surged to become a central part of the welfare state. In that expansion, the joint role of employers and unions has largely been disregarded in the comparative political economy literature. The article posits that the shift from Fordist to knowledge economies is the impetus for the social partners’ support for WFPs. If women make up an increasing share of high-skilled employees, employers start favoring WFPs to increase their labor supply. Similarly, unions favor WFPs if women constitute a significant part of their membership base. Yet the extent to which changes in preferences translate into policy depends on the presence of corporatist institutions. These claims are supported with statistical analyses of WFPs in eighteen advanced democracies across five decades and an in-depth case study of Norway. The article thus demonstrates that the trajectory of the new welfare state is decisively affected by the preferences and power of unions and employers.

This research is based on the researcher's interest in how the relationship between men and women in polygamous marriages. This study aims to describe what makes women willing to be polygamous and what kind of relationship exists between husband and wife in a polygamous family. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data collection techniques used are through observation techniques, in-depth interviews, documentation and literature study on related documents. The results showed that in a polygamous family there is a discourse battle, this discourse battle is won by the husband, so that the husband has the right to determine the values used in the family. In polygamous marriages, religion is used and believed to be the dominant discourse. Capital accumulation also affects the position of husband and wife in the family, including economic, social, cultural and symbolic capital. This form of domination carried out by the husband and not being aware of the domination by the wife who works subtly is called by Bourdieu as a form of symbolic violence.
