Child abuse may be seen with a broad array of signs and symptoms.1,2 Some cases are easily recognized, with one or more of the now classic historical and physical features of this condition. Others come to attention only after more subtle findings lead to consideration of the diagnosis. Some cases, unfortunately, escape recognition and are not identified as instances of child abuse, leading to incomplete diagnosis and possibly inappropriate treatment and follow-up. Our purpose in reporting this case is to alert health professionals to an unusual manifestation of child abuse. CASE REPORT The patient, A.R., was an 8-month old girl who had, according to her parents, manifested symptoms of an upper respiratory infection for a week prior to her admission to hospital.

Early identification and prompt treatment of hepatic encephalopathy can help reduce its progression into its overt form. As the initial signs and symptoms of this complication can be extremely subtle, diagnosis can be difficult, particularly for non-specialists. This article describes how the use of simple and widely available tests can help facilitate this

The general public holds stigmatising attitudes toward those with mental disorder, with schizophrenia being rated as highly associated with dangerousness and unpredictability (Crisp et al, 2000). The authors mention that health professionals may share some of these views. After reading their article, I was struck by a number of pharmaceutical advertisements elsewhere in the same issue of the Journal, that appeared to perpetuate a negative image of schizophrenia. My curiosity thus stimulated, I performed a cursory lunchbreak study examining the portrayal of people with mental disorder in pharmaceutical advertising in three recent issues of international psychiatric journals (Table 1). It was notable that all the advertising for antidepressants had positive imagery. Indeed this was also largely true for the ‘other’ category, with only one negatively rated advertisement.

The prevalence of caries is set to increase in the coming years as a result of a growing ageing population and a concomitant reduction in levels of edentulousness. Evidence for management of caries in older adults is scarce compared to that for the child population, however, similar principles of risk assessment, prevention and minimal intervention should be applied by dental health professionals. Early identification of high-risk older adults facilitates the implementation of risk reduction strategies, such as topical fluoride regimes. When operative intervention cannot be avoided, Atraumatic Restorative Technique (ART) may allow for conservative cavity preparation and has the advantage of being suitable for the domiciliary setting.

Several studies describe the frequent association of cafe-au-lait spots with neurofibromatosis. However, many other genetic diseases might be associated with the presence of café-au-lait spots. Several genetic diseases are rare. In most cases, syndromes present themselves as a set of signs and symptoms that may present varied penetrance, therefore largely reducing the percentage of final diagnosis. Exploration of clinical symptomatology is essential for the understanding and diagnosis of syndromes. In this review, we conduct an extensive literature search looking for research that investigated diseases that may be present simultaneously with the cafe-au-lait spots. A total of 60 genetic diseases were found, all of them rare. These syndromes were evaluated based on their most relevant features and described in a summary of the typical, general, and head and neck findings. The available OMIM number, mode of inheritance, chromosome, mutated genes, and affected proteins were also listed. The considerable variety of diseases associated with the presence of cafe-au-lait spots and the fact that many of these conditions affect various organ systems with diverse phenotypic presentations is a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. The objective of this study was to provide health professionals with an instrument containing a broad spectrum of genetic diseases coincident with the presence of cafe-au-lait spots in order to facilitate the differential and final diagnosis of these syndromes.

Corruption in health systems is a problem around the world. Prior research consistently shows that corruption is detrimental to population health. Yet public health professionals are slow to address this complicated issue on a global scale. In the editorial entitled "We Need to Talk About Corruption in Health Systems" concern with the general lack of discourse on this topic amongst health professionals is highlighted. In this invited commentary three contributing factors that hamper public dialogue on corruption are discussed. These include (i) corrupt acts are often not illegal, (ii) government and medical professionals continued acceptance of corruption in the health systems, and (iii) lack of awareness within the general public on the extent of the problem. It is advocated that a global movement that is fully inclusive needs to occur to eradicate corruption.

Palavras chave: Rinite, Rinite alérgica, AlérgenosABSTRACT:Introduction: Aeroallergens and nonspecific irritants are the triggers for the signs and symptoms of allergic rhinitis. Aeroallergens in the vast majority of regions in Brazil are dust mites, pet hair and the remains of cockroaches. Among the nonspecific aggravating factors are tobacco smoke, odors, lint and changes in temperature. The fundamental basis for the treatment of individuals with allergic rhinitis is to reduce exposure to aeroallergens and nonspecific aggravators through nasal and environmental hygiene. Aim: The present study aims to review the main methods that prevent aeroallergens and aggravating allergic rhinitis. Method: A narrative review of the literature of the last twenty years was carried out, based on the descriptors and terms most used for allergic rhinitis, based on LILACS, SciELO and PubMed. The inclusion criteria were methods to avoid aeroallergens and aggravating factors that cause allergic rhinitis in almost all regions of Brazil. Result and Conclusion: Various conducts to be adopted were observed for the removal of aeroallergens and aggravating agents. We believe that the treatment of allergic rhinitis through nasal and environmental hygiene should be applied by health professionals and, especially, by Nursing teams. Its knowledge and application are essential for the treatment of allergic rhinitis. Keywords: Rhinitis, Allergic rhinitis, Allergens

Preserving mental health during the COVID-19 crisis should be a priority for individuals worldwide. In this regard, mental health professionals should advise the general public on the actions/activities that they can take to prevent mental health issues from becoming the next pandemic. However, the general public should also actively take measures to improve their mental wellbeing. Music therapy, aromatherapy or indoor nature therapy may or may not have the potential to preserve mental wellbeing, but individuals should experiment with them to ascertain the effects on themselves. Moreover, the guidelines provided by WHO should also be adhered to, as a healthy mind starts with a healthy body.

This chapter looks at how OCD is typically manifested in the school environment. Various symptom presentations are reviewed, each with multiple illustrations of how they might be manifested in students with OCD. Examination of how treatment protocols can be developed to reverse and minimize the effects of the disorder on school-related functioning is followed by an exploration of how school personnel, together with mental health professionals and parents, can become active participants in OCD therapy. A strong emphasis throughout is placed on educating the educators, and virtually all school personnel, on what OCD is, how it might appear in the academic setting, and how to respond to it. The goal is to promote early identification of the disorder and appropriate referral for treatment, as well as an understanding of how school personnel can be a part of the treatment process.
