Language tourism has been scarcely explored and constitutes an interesting field of study due to its idiosyncrasy. Even though the cultural exchange associated to this tourist activity provides significant gains to all the stakeholders involved, it also entails many difficulties which must be taken into consideration and managed properly. The general objective of the project reported in this article has been to investigate how language tourists’ integration in the local community occurs in Barcelona (Spain). Bearing this aim in mind, the difficulties that interfere with such immersion have been identified in order so as to offer measures that can contribute to overcome them in the future. Three research techniques have been used following a qualitative approach to obtain information from language tourism providers and the researchers’ own experiences: in-depth interviews, participant observation and online search. After the data analysis, an action plan has been designed with practical proposals in order to enhance the international students’ integration. Further research could focus on the application of such measures and analyse if the proposals eventually achieve the expected results.

This article focuses on the efforts of women in the Konawe Region of Southeast Sulawesi who seek to gain an egalitarian position in the midst of oligarchical-patriarchal culture. Divorce claims as a trend of regional social become the main discourse on the dynamics of marriage law – in this context of Islamic law perspective. It is ordinarily for this research to use a qualitative approach aimed at forming substantive theories based on the concept of empirical data. The informants of this article were determined using a purposive technique, data collection techniques using in-depth interviews and participant observation, and the interactive model of Miles and Hubermann was used as a data analysis model. This research conclusively found that the power of oligarchic-patriarchal culture lies and legitimized by the interpretation of Islamic religious texts from the Qur’an and Sunnah. This effort also appears massive in the form of "rebellious" actions such as divorce to form an asymmetrical culture. This research examined this pattern in terms of asymmetric gender, namely the movement egalitarian of women who are incompatible with the ideals of male superiority in patriarchal-culture religion.

Artikel ini fokus pada upaya perempuan masyarakat Daerah Konawe Sulawesi Tenggara yang berusaha mendapatkan posisi egaliter di tengah budaya oligarkis-patriarkis. Abstract Water is a multidimensional element for the indigenous communities of the Andean highlands. The Kichwa community Fakcha Llakta, of Otavalo, Ecuador has a close relationship with the existing water bodies in their territory. However, traditional knowledge associated with these resources is fading, giving way to new forms of use. The purpose of this research is to reveal the meanings of water for this indigenous community, in order to propose guidelines for sustainable resource management. It is an ethnographic study with a qualitative approach. The information was collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation by the research team, and the gathering of cultural objects. The findings were organized and sub-grouped according to four recurring elements: vital and sacred; diversity of use and value; a threatened natural resource; and the sustainability of water from the ancestral perspective.

Background and Purpose: Commensality is an act of eating together among migrant communities as a means of passing down the culture and ethnic identity. There is very limited discussion on commensality that pays attention to food sharing and eating that extends beyond the traditional forms of social relationships, identity, and space among the Malay community abroad. Thus, this article aims to explore the connections of social relationships through food, space and identity amongst female Malay students in the United Kingdom. Methodology: This research is based on one-year ethnographic fieldwork amongst female Malaysian Muslim students in Manchester and Cardiff. Thirty in-depth interviews were conducted with both undergraduate and postgraduate students from sciences and social sciences courses. Besides, in-depth interviews, participant observation, conversation and fieldnotes methods were deployed as supplementary for data collection. Findings: This paper argues that cooking and eating together in a private space is a way for them to maintain social relationships and overcome stress in their studies, and fulfil their desire to create harmony and trust at home. Besides, places such as the kitchen, play an essential space in building the Malay identity and social relationships between female Malay students’ communities in the host country. Contributions: This study has contributed to an understanding of the meaning of friendship, identity, space, and the discussion on the anthropology of food from international students’ perspectives and migration studies. Keywords: Food and identity, commensality, Malay students, friendship, international students. Cite as: Ibnu, I.
