The present review encompasses the data from the Russian-language and foreign publications. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is currently considered to be a global socio-medical, psychological, and economic problem due to the high frequency of vascular complications resulting in early invalidization of the patients. Encephalopathy (EP) is one of the most severe complications of DM leading to the substantial deterioration of the quality of life. Both the markers and the diagnostic criteria of EP remain to be determined. Certain neurospecific proteins are believed to be predictors of this pathology.

The paper discusses the process for validation of the Russian-language EQ-5D-5L version to assess quality of life. According to international and national guidelines, the primary goal of treating spondyloarthritis (SpA) is to preserve the quality of life (QOL) of a patient as long as possible, by achieving control of the main symptoms of the disease and inflammation, by preventing the development and progression of structural changes in the locomotor system, and by preserving/normalizing the patient's functional activity and social adaptation. QOL is the integral characteristic of the physical, psychological, social and emotional status of the patient, which is assessed on the basis of his subjective perception. At the moment, there are no generally accepted national tools for assessing QOL in Russia, so the problem of adaptation and validation of international questionnaires is very actual. Objective: to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Russian-language EQ-5D-5L version in patients with SpA.Subjects and methods. Examinations were made in 163 patients older than 18 years with axial or peripheral SpA, who met the Assessment of Spondyloarthritis International Society (ASAS) criteria. The disease activity was assessed using the Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index (BASDAI) and the Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Score (ASDAS); their functional status was estimated by the Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index (BASFI), and spinal mobility was evaluated by the Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Metrology Index (BASMI). The ASAS Health Index (HI) was used to comprehensively analyze the impact of SpA on the patient's health. The EQ-5D-5L version was employed for the first time in Russia to assess the quality of life of patients. Its main psychometric properties, such as reproducibility, validity, sensitivity, were evaluated. Results and discussion. The median age of the patients was 39.50 [28.00; 48.00] years. Among them, there were 64.8% of men. The median value of EQ-5D (a 5L version) was 0.53 [0.29; 0.65]. There were statistically significant relationships between the EQ-5D-5L values and BASDAI, BASFI, ASDAS, BASMI, ASAS HI, and the SF-36 questionnaire for QOL assessment. The test-retest reliability study showed that the internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha) was 0.96. The median value of the EQ-5D-5L was 0.55 [0.37; 0.63] at the first visit and 0.60 [0.40; 0.69] at the second visit after prescribing therapy (p = 0.01).Conclusion. The validation has indicated that the EQ-5D-5L version is a reliable, change-sensitive, easy-to-use, and physician-patient-friendly tool to assess QOL.

Diabetes is one of the most pressing problems of modern medicine. Today, there are 150 million people with diabetes in the world; by 2025 this number is expected to reach 300 million. Diabetes mellitus is one of the significant causes of early disability and death due to late vascular complications owing to macroangiopathy, microangiopathy and neuropathy. Timely diagnosis of diabetes mellitus, prevention of the development of its early and late complications can significantly reduce the mortality rate for this pathology, improve the quality of life of patients and prevent formidable complications.

Objective. To identify the possibilities of using of the Russian-language versions of the BIQLI and ASI-R (T.F. Cash) questionnaires to study the body image and its components in healthy women and in surgical patients. Methods. The study included 444 apparently healthy women, 40 patients of a surgical hospital and 40 clients of a plastic surgeon using BIQLI and ASI-R questionnaires to assess the quality of life due to the characteristics of self-perception. Results. The average scores of the questionnaires were: BIQLI - 1.41±0.91 (CI 1.32; 1.49); ASI-R - 3.53±0.55 (CI 3.48; 3.59). Cronbach Alpha: BIQLI - 0.94; ASI-R - 0.84. For the self-esteem scale of the ASI-R questionnaire - 3.42±0.64 (CI 3.35; 3.48); Cronbach alpha - 0.82. For the ASI-R motivation scale - 3.71±0.58 (CI 3.65; 3.76); Cronbach alpha - 0.65. Pearson coefficients inside the questionnaires: BIQLI - 0.5-0.8; ASI-R - 0.3-0.7; motivation scale with a total score - 0.8; self-assessment scale with a total score - 0.9; scales of motivation and self-esteem among themselves - 0.5. 399 (89.8%) respondents had a positive body image. In surgical patients, the median BIQLI score was 1.5, in plastic surgeon clients - 1.5, a positive body image - in 33 (82.5%) and 32 (80 %), respectively. Astatistically significant difference was revealed only on the issue of “relations with their family” (p=0.01). Conclusion. High reliability and validity of the Russian-language versions of the BIQLI and ASI-R questionnaires were revealed in determining the quality of life associated with the perception of their own appearance in practically healthy women, which makes it possible to recommend them for use in scientific research. The developed version of BIQLI questionnaires can be recommended for widespread use and in practical research, including the surgical patients. What this paper adds For the first time, the Russian-language versions of the BIQLI and ASI-R (T.F. Cash) body image questionnaires were validated on a representative sample; their reliability, stability and internal consistency were assessed, and the possibilities of their use for studying the body image and its components among surgical patients were identified. High reliability and validity of the Russian-language versions of the BIQLI and ASI-R questionnaires in determining the quality of life associated with the perception of their own appearance in practically healthy women were revealed. The Russian-language versions of the BIQLI and ASI-R questionnaires tested in the study can be recommended for use in scientific research.

Atrophic rhinitis at the same time significantly reduces the quality of life of patients suffering from it and is a refractory pathology. The current therapy for the disease includes conservative and sometimes surgical treatment. Nevertheless, the problem of effective therapeutic method remains to be relevant and requires the search for new medicines. Also, there is no tool for assessing the severity of symptoms and quality of life in patients with atrophic rhinitis. The internationally accepted SNOT-25 (Sino-Nasal Outcome Test-25) questionnaire with Houser’s modifications is used to assess the severity of symptoms of patients with empty nose syndrome and could be successfully applied for examination of patients with atrophic rhinitis. Research objectives. This research is aimed to evaluate the efficacy of the Russian nasal spray Olyfrin in the treatment of atrophic rhinitis. And also, to assess the possibility of using the SNOT 25 questionnaire with Houser’s modifications to determine symptom severity of atrophic rhinitis. Materials and Methods. At the first stage - validation of the SNOT-25 questionnaire modified by Houser - 64 patients were included in the study: 29 patients with atrophic rhinitis, 35 with other forms of chronic rhinitis. All patients filled in a prepared and adapted Russian-language version of the questionnaire. At the second stage - determination of the effectiveness of the spray Olyfrin in the treatment of atrophic rhinitis - the study included 29 patients with atrophic rhinitis. Olyfrin was used in 1 dose 3 times a day for 14 days. The dynamics of the severity of symptoms was assessed on the 7th and 14th days using the SNOT-25 questionnaire with Houser’s modifications. Analysis of the total number of points according to SNOT 25 with Houser’s modifications, along with the number of points scored for each of the questions, revealed a significant difference between the group of patients with atrophic rhinitis and the group of patients with other forms of chronic rhinitis (p <0.05). When studying the efficacy of the spray Olyfrin, statistically significant differences were found in the sum of points on the questionnaire before treatment and on the 7th day after treatment (p = 0.005), as well as before treatment and on the 14th day after treatment (p <0.001). A significant difference (p <0.05) was also obtained depending on the day of treatment with a decrease in the number of points of the severity of dryness in the nose (3.75 ± 1.55 vs 1.76 ± 1.43), sensation of excessive openness of the nose (0, 62 ± 0.26 vs 0.41 ± 0.14) and the formation of crusts in the nasal cavity (3.45 ± 1.37 vs 1.76 ± 0.87) already on the 7th day of treatment, and for all these symptoms with an additional decrease in the severity of the feeling of suffocation (1.14 ± 0.29 vs 0.28 ± 0.1) and difficulty in nasal breathing (1.62 ± 0.33 vs 0.45 ± 0.12) on the 14th day of treatment. Conclusions. According to our study, Olyfrin nasal spray is advisable to use when prescribing empirical therapy for patients with atrophic rhinitis. And to assess the quality of life and the dynamics of treatment of patients with atrophic rhinitis, the Russian-language version of the SNOT-25 questionnaire with Houser’s modifications can be successfully used.
