AbstractIn this paper, we investigate on the preparation of waste cotton fabric-based activated carbons by different methods. Two different kinds of carbon materials are prepared from waste cotton fabric, the structure and properties were characterized using instrumental analyses such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). It is revealed that the products prepared using one-step process are composed of macroporous carbon network , which looks like sponge-type morphology, and exhibit the high values of qiodine(1,198 mg/g) and qmb(235.6 ml/g), showing their potential usage as adsorbent.

The aim of this study was to compare parameters of nanocellulose obtained by two different procedures: hydrolysis with ionic liquids (1-allyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride and 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate) and hydrolysis with ionic liquids in combination with hydrolysis using a cellulolytic enzyme from Trichoderma reesei. Avicel cellulose was treated with two ionic liquids: 1-allyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (AmimCl) and 1-ethyl 3-methylimidazolium acetate (EmimOAc). In the two-step hydrolysis cellulose after treatment with ionic liquids was additionally hydrolyzed with a solution of enzymes. In order to characterize the obtained material, the following analyses were used: infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and dynamic light scattering. The results indicated that cellulose obtained by two-step nanocellulose production methods (first hydrolysis with ionic liquids and then with enzymes) showed similar parameters (particle size, XRD patterns and degree of crystallinity) as the material after the one-step process, i.e. hydrolysis with ionic liquids.

A straightforward method for the preparation of trisphosphinite ligands in one step, using only commercially available reagents (1,1,1-tris(4-hydroxyphenyl)ethane and chlorophosphines) is described. We have made use of this approach to prepare a small family of four trisphosphinite ligands of formula [CH3C{(C6H4OR2)3], where R stands for Ph (1a), Xyl (1b, Xyl = 2,6-Me2-C6H3), iPr (1c), and Cy (1d). These polyfunctional phosphinites allowed us to investigate their coordination chemistry towards a range of late transition metal precursors. As such, we report here the isolation and full characterization of a number of Au(I), Ag(I), Cu(I), Ir(III), Rh(III) and Ru(II) homotrimetallic complexes, including the structural characterization by X-ray diffraction studies of six of these compounds. We have observed that the flexibility of these trisphosphinites enables a variety of conformations for the different trimetallic species.

In this paper, the effect of tiny Y2O3 addition in (Bi,[Formula: see text]Pb)-2223 superconductor prepared by solid state reaction technique was studied. The properties of samples have been investigated via X-ray diffraction (XRD), resistance–temperature ([Formula: see text]–[Formula: see text]) curve, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). XRD data indicated that all samples are multiphase and the major phases are high-temperature phases and low-temperature phases. The volume fraction of (Bi,[Formula: see text]Pb)-2223 is not great change with tiny Y2O3 addition. All samples exhibit superconducting phase with the critical transition temperature and one-step transition, however, the transition width was decreased with the Y2O3 addition up to 0.04 wt.% and sharp increased with the excessive oxide addition. SEM pictures show that the Y2O3 appeared on the flake-type grains surface obviously, but the number and size of the hole between grains are decreased in the 0.04 wt.% addition.

Zirconia-graphene composite (ZrO2-G) has been successfully synthesized via decomposition of ZrOCl2•6H2O in a water-isopropanol system with dispersed graphene oxide (GO) utilizing Na2S as a precursor could enable the occurrence of the deposition of Zr4+ and the deoxygenation of GO at the same time. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques were used to characterize the samples. It was found that graphene were fully coated with ZrO2, and the ZrO2 existing in tetragonal phase, which resulted in the formation of two-dimensional composite.

Abstract The coordination polymer [Cu2(TDPH)4(QNX)].DMF, (QNX = Quinoxaline; TDPH = 3,3-thiodipropionic acid), has been prepared by reaction of copper acetate, TDPH, and quinoxaline. The compound was characterized by elemental analysis, FTIR spectroscopy, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The crystal is monoclinic with a P21/n space group and dimensions of a = 12.889(3) Å, b = 14.983(4) Å, c = 14.091(3) Å, α = 90 °, β = 90.200(11) °, γ = 90 °, V = 2721.18 (2) Å3, Z = 4. The ligands are hexagonally coordinated to the Cu(II) centre in the form of Cu2O4N with one nitrogen atom from the quinoxaline ligand, and four oxygen atoms from four TDPH molecules in a monodentate fashion. The Cu-Cu bond length was 2.642(1) and 2.629(1) Å for the Cu1----Cu1 and Cu2----Cu2 bonds. The QNX ligand bridged the two copper atoms. The catalytic reduction of 4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol using NaBH4 in the presence of [Cu2(TDPH)4(QNX)].DMF, as catalyst was completed within 11 minutes. The 4-aminophenol product was confirmed using 1H NMR spectroscopy.

The nanocrystal, phase transformation and microstructure behavior of Ni50Ti50 shape memory alloy was investigated by scanning electronic microscope, X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry. The results showed that the microstructure of Ni-Ti binary alloy consists of the NiTi2 phase and the NiTi matrix phase. One-step phase transformation was observed alloy.

We report for the first time the fabrication of hierarchical ordered superstructure CuB2O4 with flower-like morphology via a one-step, low temperature hydrothermal method. The tetragonal structure of CuB2O4 was determined by X-ray diffraction and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. Optical measurements attested of the quality of the fabricated CuB2O4 and high temperature X-ray diffraction confirmed its thermal stability up to 600 ?C. The oriented attachment growth and the hierarchical self-assembly of micrometer-sized platelets producing hierarchical superstructures with flower-like morphology are designed by pH of the hydrothermal solution. The excellent band gap, high thermal stability and hierarchical structure of the CuB2O4 are promising for the photovoltaic and photocatalytic applications.

ABSTRACTCellulose nanofibrils have been evaluated as reinforcement material in polymeric matrixes due to their potential to improve the mechanical, optical, and dielectric properties of these matrixes as well as its environmental positive footprint. This work describes how banana nanocellulose can be used to replace others not so friendly materials in many applications including, biomaterials, automotive industries and packaging by proved with their mechanical properties. The process used is very mild to the environment and consists of a high pressure fibrillation followed by a chemical purification which affects the fiber morphology. Many fibers characterization processes were used including microscopy techniques and X-ray diffraction to study the structure and properties of the prepared nanofibers and composites. Microscopy studies showed that the used individualization processes lead to a unique morphology of interconnected web-like structure of the fibers.

Metal oxide nanocomposite (ZnO-CuO) was successfully synthesized by one step homogeneous coprecipitation method and further characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron micrograph (SEM), X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) and UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectra. XRD analysis exhibited presence of pure copper oxide and zinc oxide within the nanocomposite. SEM analysis indicated that the ZnO-CuO nanocomposite was consisted of flower shaped ZnO along with leaf shaped CuO. Photocatalytic activity of nanocomposite was evaluated in terms of degradation of methylene blue (MB) dye solution under ultra-violet radiation. Results showed that the photocatalytic efficiency of ZnO-CuO nanocomposite was higher than its individual pure oxides (ZnO or CuO).

The direct conversion of biomass to activated carbons in a simple and lower cost one step process, which negates the need for hydrothermal carbonisation or pyrolysis, generates activated carbons with properties and CO2 uptake comparable or superior to those of conventionally prepared activated carbons.
