Abstract In order to estimate the inductive power set in the armature of the high-speed solenoid valve (HSV) during the open loop control (OLC) using pulse width modulation (PWM) an analytical explicit formula has been derived. The simplifications taken both in the geometry and in the physical behavior of the HSV were described. The inductive power was calculated for different boundary conditions and shown as a function of the frequency of the coil current. The power set in the armature was used as an input to the thermal calculation. The thermal calculation had an objective to estimate the time dependent temperature distribution in the armature of the HSV. All the derivation steps were presented and the influence of different boundary conditions was shown and discussed. The increase of the temperature during the heating with inductive power has been evaluated both in the core and on the side surface of the HSV.

Hydraulic actuators are widely employed for industrial automation for its high power over weight ratio, functionality in tough operating conditions and low cost. However, the dynamics of hydraulic systems are non-linear and the system subjected to non-smooth and discontinuous non-linearities due to directional change of valve opening, friction, valve overlap and changes of hydraulic pressure acted on valve spool. Taking into account the effect of nonlinear parameter variations such as bulk modulus, compressibility of oil or viscosity of oil, fuzzy logic approach is chosen. Fuzzy control can adapt the inconstant working condition and non-linear system alongside of its robustness. For PWM controlled hydraulic component such as solenoid valve, effective approximation of the flow properties in a solenoid valve is essential. In this paper, the effect of fuzzy logic approach incorporated on pulse width modulation (PWM) controlled hydraulic system is to be investigated and experimentally verified.

A vacuum pressure tracking system with high-speed on-off valves is a discontinuous system due to the discrete nature of high-speed on-off valves. Chamber pressure changes in the system are determined by the mass flow rates during the processes of charging and discharging. Here, a sliding mode controller with an asymmetric compensator based on average mass flow rate is designed for accurate vacuum pressure tracking. The controller output signal is converted into the duty cycles of the high-speed on-off valves via a pulse width modulation pulsing scheme. Owing to the extreme asymmetry of the processes, an asymmetric structure comprising one high-speed on-off valve in the charging unit and three high-speed on-off valves in the discharging unit is applied to weaken the impact of asymmetry. In addition, an asymmetric compensator is also designed to modify the pulse width modulation pulsing scheme to further eliminate the asymmetry. Experimental results indicate that the proposed controller achieves better performance in pressure tracking with the asymmetric compensator overcoming process asymmetry and enhancing system robustness.

The determination of thermal insulation performance of thermal protection materials or structures is an indispensable and important step in the safety design of high speed flight vehicles. To obtain the temperature difference of the radiating surface for plate specimens under three different boundary conditions in heat insulation experiments (the specimens were placed either vertically or horizontally with the radiating surface facing down or horizontally with the radiating surface facing up), three thermal test setups were established to test the thermal insulation performance of light-weight ceramic specimens at different temperatures. The results show that the radiating surface temperature was the highest when the specimen was placed horizontally with the radiating surface facing down, while it was the lowest when the specimen was placed horizontally with the radiating surface facing up.The numerical calculation results agreed very well with the experimental ones, confirming the credibility and accuracy of the experimental results. The different thermal insulation performances of the plate specimens obtained under three different boundary conditions will provide important guidance for designers in the design of thermal protection systems for large cabins of high speed flight vehicles.

Abstract The purpose of the article was to present the idea of space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) and implementation in Nios II softcore processor. The SVPWM module was described in a classical method in hardware description language both as an independent structure and as an additional component to softcore processor. The available methods were compared, and the experiment was carried out in the laboratory to test implemented SVPWM algorithm using high-speed induction motor.
